Three room flashover experiments conducted by NIST. The 1st experiment was in a small multi-room structure at Ft. Indiantowngap, PA. No windows or doors were open at the time of the fire, notice what happens as the fire runs short of oxygen due to lack of ventilation. The 2nd experiment was conducted in a 12 ft by 12 ft by 8 ft room with one doorway open to the Large Fire Laboratory at NIST. This open doorway allows the fire burn post-flashover. The 3rd experiment shows an open office plan with three work stations in a 16 ft by 20 ft by 9.5 ft compartment with one wall open to the lab and exhaust hood. Notice the impact of the thermal radiation on materials below the hot gas layer.
