Madsen M47 Run and Gun (The Last Bolt Action Military Infantry Rifle)

The Madsen M47 Lightweight Military Rifle was the last bolt action rifle designed with general issue in mind, however withe the surplus of small arms and the proliferation of semi-automatic firearms after World War II, the M47 was not to be. About 5,000 were made, and in this episode we see how the M47 fares on the run and gun course!

I have one of these rifles from the Colombian Navy contract. It's one of my favorite rifles. Great shooter and the craftsmanship is very good. I've taken several deer and some wild hogs with it. Along with my M48A Yugo Mauser, it's the most accurate milsurp I own but the sights are better than the Yugo.

I’d like to add the Ishapore MK.2 variant of the SMLE as an additional very last general issue bolt action rifle, as it was used in the 50’s and 60’s as a stop-gap measure for India to have a primary rifle using the new 7.62x51 Nato cartridge while the Fal production lines were being set up.

Nice rifle. I know a little about them, thanks mostly to Forgotten Weapons. Madsen built some very good smg's too. The first reload was quite smooth- looks like the Swedish clips have potential. Rear locking bolts are a somewhat different animal, but they are smooth. A good friend of mine loves his Rem 788 in 223 for casual varminting. I would like to have one each in 22 Hornet and 30-30, but that's me. Good video.

+PoppaSquat I think quickly running a bolt action is something of a lost art (well, outside of Norway). With the popularization of reliable self-loading rifles people don't really do it much these days. Admittedly it is a pretty useless skill, haha.

No 4 Enfields all had aperture sights. From the number of hits you scored, the sights obviously work. To me, however they look way to far forward. I think I would prefer them where they are on an Enfield.

Good Shooting Alex. I have to admit looking at that action, split bridge and no forward lugs on the bolt would make me a bit nervous. Is there any provision to direct gases away from the shooter should it experience a case failure??
