In the interview linked here ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmqVco1qj96jmsUsi=0VhwTouWVtxw4kXr&t=610 ), Chris Foreman, guitar, talks about the Baggy Trousers video. Apparently, Lee Thompson, sax, wanted to have dummies flying but it ended up with just him on a wire... and Suggs' reaction reflects genuine fun/amazement. Overall, this is a fun interview with Chris and people might want to start from the beginning of Part 1 of the interview.

@@chrismoiser6477 Well, evil teachers terrorizing kids was pretty much the norm in the 50s. As a matter of fact, there are still plenty of evil teachers around who, for instance, facilitate bullying. I wish I'd appreciated my teens in the 80s more. My kids really don't know what freedom and fun were. Madness was the group that defined my teens and without any swearing or violent lyrics. Thanks nutty boys from an 'official' nutty girl ❤️❤️👍👍👍❤️

Madness had several swearwords in their lyrics. You obviously weren't listening very hard.

Madness is the most British band ever. More British than Queen, The Beatles, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Erasure, and even The Clash.

I remember it being on TOTP in September 1980 as I remember, just when kids in the UK had gone back to school after the summer holidays, so the timing was uncannily spot on! Just as when The Specials did Rat Race, I recall taking exams at secondary school at the same time.

I'm well into my forties now. This was my childhood, everyone out playing, hanging about, on bikes, rounders, football, climbing trees and no fatties glued to an idiot box. Awesome music in the charts, no internet, no mobiles. It was fucking excellent.

@@TheNoobyMinecrafter1 If this was released in 1980 and they're all about ten years old, they'd be about fifty now. Assuming retirement at 65 gets you about fifteen years to go. Make the most of life while it lasts!

Assuming they’ll even have jobs, the kids in this video will be dropping dead at their workstations in about 25 years because retirement is almost not a thing anymore:

The first time I ever heard this song I was in London, on the Bankside. There was noise coming from the Thames - people turned their heads to see what it was, so did I. Turns out it was a ship full of people celebrating and blasting this song at full volume. Not only that, but they sang along with it as if their lives depended on it! I'll never forget that moment, there was so much joy!

The music video of the song was shot in Kentish Town in north west London: at the Kentish Town C of E primary school on Islip Street and the Peckwater Estate. The band's saxophone player, Lee Thompson decided he wanted to fly through the air for his solo, with the use of wires hanging from a crane.
