Inside Singapore's Last KAMPUNG 🇸🇬

Today I'm leaving Indonesia and heading to Singapore. In Singapore, I'm meeting up with a subscriber and new friend. This was filmed during F1 weekend and prices in Singapore were crazy. I was running out of time before my Indonesian visa expires and so I decided to head to Batam and take the ferry over to Singapore. Luckily Daniel reached out to me and said I could stay with him and his family. What a legend.
After I met him at the port, we had lunch, went to his house where I met his parents, and then we headed to the last kampung/kampong in Singapore. Kampong Lorong Buangkok is a village located in Buangkok in Hougang, Singapore. This kampung was built in 1956, it is the last surviving kampong located on Singapore Island in the 21st century. A wide canal ran alongside the kampong, which links to Sungei Punggol that drains into the eastern Straits of Johor
We had dinner at the famous Victory restaurant in Singapore. So good!

Good to see that a White guy is exploring more towards the Malay/Indian muslim community in SIngapore. Because i do feel that there are so many youtubers who are more inclined towards Chinese food in Singapore. Nothing against that but its just Malay/Muslim community a bit under represented when it comes to Singapore. Possibly also because other youtubers could have gone to Malaysia and have tried most Malay/Muslim cuisine there before coming to Singapore

That big house is own by a doctor if I'm not mistaken..i have delivered food to them once..had a chance to look at their Ferrari collection and some Pagani's..had a chat with the owner and she said the whole big family is staying there..

Finally you're getting a real martabak. Beef n mutton are the best, but chicken might be too moist n makes it soggy somewhat. And there's a host of curries to choose. They'll also do a telur n bawang, egg n onions if you don't feel like eating any meat. Malaysian murtabak is almost similar but 1/3 the price. BTW with today's prices n taxes that Mercedes costs abt S$350k. And you also passed by Dempsey n a house with 7 or 8 Ferraris.

The reason why the government demolished these places because in history, villages are made up of attap leaf, which makes up a fire hazard/safety, back in the olden days, those attap houses were lid by something that makes a huge mass fire in parts of Singapore, tens of thousands lost their homes after. That's the reason why government gave an order to fast built high rise buildings to shelter the homeless.

This kampung called Lorong Buangkok actually sits on land owned by a local family. I believe there was a documentary on it, and in that documentary they said they kept the rent the same rate for families that have been living there since it was bought over by that local family in the 1950s. Admirable in today's times where costs are rising due to inflation.

Singapore is characterised by shopping malls after shopping malls. Nature walks are quite nice too. That's all. Malaysia should be more interesting. I'm Singaporean but I think that Malaysia's street food is way way better.

hmm in indo u can also get beef martabak. u just gotta ask for it if they actually sell the beef. stores usually has 2 version (beef/chicken). And also mee goreng is just malaysian/indonesian but there are so many indians there in SG/MY that's why indian restaurant usually serves it also.

there is another Kampong of sorts its on one of SIngapore's islands called Pulau Ubin, thats an entire island thats Singapore stuck in 1950s, as original Singapore as can be.
