@bethb59153 жыл бұрын
Not always about the grass being greener - if they need viable work and/or they're single and want to live somewhere they can meet other young people, they'll need to move. It's beautiful, but if jobs and social opportunities aren't there, what's to keep them there? I love these towns, but as a single middle-aged gal, I'd want to live somewhere that's easier to travel to other parts of Italy from and closer to more cultural events and social life.

@@DauvO When I was small, we stayed with my father's parents. I remember we went during the Christmas holidays as a kid & we slept upstairs in the attic area. It was freakin cold!!! we slept on a huge bed. The smell of the wood burning was spectacular. My grandmother made us all polenta ( corn flour boiled in water ) with home made sausages & italian sauce. We celebrated for once all together with cousins. We must have been at least 20 people in there! When you enter, there is a hallway on the main floor where you can go straight into the kitchen of roughly 15 X 24 approximately. There is a small door with window you can open during the summer time and see the large Arc to your right from the main entrance inside the village going up towards the church at the top. From the same entrance, right to your right, there is a staircase leading you to the main bedroom upstairs which has a bathroom as well on that 2nd floor. Then the staircase continues to the 3rd floor where a huge attic with ceramic floors. It is roughly 30 X 30' roughly. It has a king sized bed with some sofas as well. My aunt was living there alone after having looked after her parents who died back in the mid- 80's. She sadly passed away in 2021. The house now is in the hands of my other aunt ( her younger sister ) who lives close by in the city of Latina. I don't know her plans about the house. Downstairs, there is a storage where you can park a small vehicle if need. But you need to enter it from just prior to the entrance of the main Arc to your right. Outside below on the side to the left, there is a fountain. There is used to be fresh cold water from the mountains flowing there when opened. It apparently is closed now. I have a picture of it when I was small. My Dad told me when they were small, they had one candle to light up the entire house at night! Imagine how it was & how they survived with very little ? Wonderful memories indeed. Be well....

@@DauvO My pleasure. The good thing about Maenza is that you are not far from the beaches like Sabaudia & Terracina. The bus terminals are right at the bottom of the entrance so you can take the bus leading to wherever you wish to lead to. My Dad would take the bus to work when he was young learning the carpentry trade. Would leave at 5:30 am & be back for 7 pm for supper time. They were 5 kids living in that place. I miss them all. The Baronale Castle at the top near the church used to be a prison many many years ago. The village has a lot of potential!! My favourite spot was opening up the small little window in the attic & view the entire valley along with the mountains. Spectacular! Take good care. Alex

Davi, is there any advantage in having Italian citizenship, when buying Real Estate?
@DauvO2 жыл бұрын
I'd say the main advantages are built within long term residency and an Italian non expiring work contract, not necessarily citizenship. I can access the same incentives and benefits as an Italian citizen with just my residency. Of course there is the risk that Italy changes their perspective on selling to non citizens which would ultimately block me, but I don't see that happening at least any time soon.

For American citizens, it is very difficult to obtain long-term residency in Italy, even as a non-working resident. Unless you have dual citizenship with another E.U. country, a high six-figure bank account, or you are Italian American and can take advantage of the ancestry program, it's going to be tough. Very tough. France, of all places, is easier to obtain annually renewable residency than Italy. I really hope the Italian government becomes more flexible on this in the future.

Davao, Can you make a profit, renting out homes in Italy, as a Real Estate investor?
@DauvO2 жыл бұрын
It can be profitable, but it is a challenge. Italy's real estate market typically grows only in the main metropolitan areas and near the beaches/national parks. There are plenty of local investors that are really good at what they do. Of course it makes it all that much more challenging. Make sure whatever you buy, that you've done a lot of due diligence.

@angier22893 жыл бұрын
Closest train i from Rome termini is either a regional that goes to Latina or to Frosinone - followed by a bus ride to Maenza - basically, the train will get you to either one side or the other of the Lepini mountains (where Maenza is located). I have not taken the train from Termini to Latina but I have taken it from Termini to Frosinone - it is a local/regional train, takes about 45 minutes, can be considered a commuter train at certain times of the day as loads of people live in the smaller towns along the route to Frosinone and take the train into Rome every day for work. (At least before the pandemic they did…certainly now, I’d guess there’s more work from home, even in Italy!). There is a car rental agency in Frosinone and prepandemic, it was a LOT cheaper to rent a car in Frosinone instead of at the airport upon landing at fiumicino.

People still chase after these 1euro disasters. Let's say you successfully renovate the property which will cost you 50,000 to 100,00 you will be in a assbackwards town with no services and poor internet.. who would want to live there? No lively community with cafes and bars, no weekly fresh market (the things you fell in love with when visiting Italy) there will be no work.. and if you plan to work online good luck getting a wifi connection that's fast enough. So unless you're a hermit who has 150,000 to blow on having a house in nowhere land..... The good ones with views are inhabited, (as the old lady indicated) the uninhabited ones are uninhabited for a reason .. they are non fit for habitation. This video is 1,5 hours from Rome so 2 hours from the centre of Rome. There's a fool born every day ...

Good points. Some buy to have a place to clear their head when getting away from their area for a while. Others to have a 'basecamp' to explore Italy. But to actually live and stay I'd say it is a low percentage.

DauvO it s a great idea that italians had. I am surprised that in Spain, they don t do something similar as the situation is quite the same. If you check in idealista, you will see that Real estate in small dying towns or villages is usually quite higher in spain than in italy. My guess is that these houses stay forever in the market and nobody buys them. Also do you have some information about Who buys these 1 euro house ? I think you have a large audience from the us and the uk but unless you live 1 hour/2hours maximum, people will not use these houses.
@DauvO Жыл бұрын
