In 1988 I managed to send a letter to Leonard Bernstein, from East Berlin through the Iron Curtain, via the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. At Christmas of the same year, I even received a reply. Unfortunately, I never managed to ever see Leonard Bernstein live at one of his concerts in the Berlin Schauspielhaus or elsewhere in Germany. - Little did we know that our world was about to change dramatically just one year later with the Fall of the Berlin Wall. But I already knew then that LB had changed my life and my understanding of music forever. 35 years later there is the same excitement, not least due to this movie which I can´t wait to see, but also by reading these comments, some coming from very young people. I feel the very same positive chill as I did as a young woman, listening to his conducting Tschaikowsky and Mahler. Lenny is and stays alive ... Thank you, LB, and all the people who made this movie.

What an incredible story! I'm from a very different background: Mexican, born in 1985, and I'm an astrophysicist and science communicator. Yet I feel a connection to your story, since Bernstein's performances have accompanied me thorough my life since I first discovered them as a teenager in western Mexico. When I was a teen in the 80's, I got to paint the servant's house on his property in Greenwich CT. I stayed the weekend with nobody there except my girlfriend who helped me, and the security guy who my father knew. (How I got the gig). The opening shot looks very much like the place. If so, the two structures were the servant's house on the right and his study cottage on the left. In that cottage, was an upright piano with an architectural draft board where he clipped his music. It also had a single sized cot in a small room - like a napping spot. Two things really struck me: 1) Above the piano on the wall was a narrow shelf with a few grammy awards... totally dusty. 2). He had a few prog-rock records from the band Yes! I never expected that. The house was another story. To this day, I think I should have kept the check with his signature. It was for $800. Probably would be worth a lot more now.

Also, just like Lenny, Mahler is one of my favorite composers, there have been music pieces that made me cry, but the finale of Mahler 2 is THE ONE music piece that has made me cry THE MOST like never before, that hasn't happened me with any other music or any work of art. A new film about Mahler since his music has been featured in recent films would be awesome. But as mentioned, if you haven't seen it check out Ken Russel's Mahler, it's really good, though it would help to know some biographical information (Russel has a lot of metaphorical dream sequences in the film that might not make sense otherwise and some of them still don't quite line up with what I've read about the real Mahler). The actor playing Mahler does a pretty good job but leaves things out like his erratic walking style and skip, still it's all we've got so far..

Bernstein was one of the main avatars for what I have looked for in life - and in men. A unique brilliance. I know why some people fall in love with a person like Bernstein. It has nothing to do with self destruction. It has to do with understanding passion. In all its forms. And who a person really is. And who one is. I am looking forward to this film.

OK Mahler's 2nd, obvious choice. But the trailer opens with something way more interesting, one of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies Bernstein ever composed, the oboe solo at the end of Act 1 of his final opera "A Quiet Place". More than thrilled for this movie...!!

To pick Mahler's 2nd symphony's finale as the trailer music is genius.

I know very little when it comes to classic music but this trailer , I mean the storyline, the cinematography & the music moved me.This is going to be a tug war between Cylian Murphy & Bradley Cooper.
