A version containing all of the DLC titled Mafia III: Definitive Edition was released for PC in May, 2020. Mafia III gives players the whole organized crime package and tells a good story but is held back by repetitive gameplay.

Never played Mafia until the 3rd one was given away with PS Plus - and boy did I love it. The music, the cars - the story - the emotion. Was a very well wrapped up game.

The biggest sin was not letting you drive motorcycles or taking advantage of 60's biker gangs and to top it off adding motorcycles to MAFIA 1 - which was amazing, but also somehow letting you load in Lincoln in Mafia 1 and drive a motorcycle. Additionally, I think the game looks at it's best with the saturated colors in slow motion mode- then the pale reality sets in when the slow mo ends.

Good review! I really enjoyed my time with this game but I do agree with the issues. For me, I think the 60s setting, the overall atmosphere/vibe and the amazing music selection is what kept me going through the game. I did come into it knowing it would be repetitive so what I suggest to newcomers is to play a DLC after you're done with a lieutenant/district. Definitely helped avoid the grindy same old feel mission after mission.

I been a huge fan of mafia for years. This game is definitely my favorite and most liked. I love the southern atmosphere and I love the classic cars from the 50s to 60s as I've owned many in real life. And I really do enjoy the soundtrack. I really haven't experienced anything bad with the game, the only issue I had is some achievements are not unlocking, but the ps4 version when M3 released was fine and I was able to get a platinum trophy for unlocking all of them. I've played for over 500 hours on the ps4 and pc combined. Replayed over 10 times and still enjoy it every time. I just wished the customization was for every car you can drive and not just lincolns own cars, being able to gas up your car or repair it, going into diners and bars to eat and drink.

I liked this game story and characters a lot, but they should have done more open world stuff. The CIA DLC should have been Vietnam and was a complete waste for that reason, but the setting was amazing

So torn on this game. I absolutely LOVED the '60s setting and the thorny issues around race and being in the South, and there's some amazing mission setpieces, but the repetition, grind, and lifeless world really sucked. Still, the writing and worldbuilding was top-notch.

Really felt like a game that had a lot of development time for the story ;but not on the mechanics. I really liked the idea of hideouts/bases and being able to customize cars ;but there was so little depth to those things it really left me wanting more to do.

I mean, I haven't spent a single second in that garbage management depot whatsoever. and also, the mechanics of this game are strange. you can only carry 2 weapons in the game. maybe this is "realistic" but I would have liked to simply switch between all weapons instantly. just like how GTA does. another problem with this game is is indeed the gring/repetitive side missions and no fast travel whatsoever. and you also have to visit your underbosses constantly to get your payment. but anyways. I have finished the game to 100% completion and afterwards I deleted the game from my computer. no reason to play it again tbh. I also played the DLCs which in fact were very good. the one with Donovan is the best. all three Mafia games good games but they aren't on the same level as GTA. amazing story with realistic drama but not much fun with side activities. car racing is good but I would have also liked to see bike racing or boat racing. maybe Mafia 4 with be more fun with more side activities.

Probably the first review I’ve heard where the reviewer likes the game more than the others in the series. I really wasn’t expecting that at all and I’m quite shocked. It’s my least favorite by far mainly due to the repetitive design. I even liked the core gameplay but it got to the point where I felt I was playing on autopilot. I’d take the linear focused design of the first two games any day over this. Love the review regardless, just really surprised.

This game is a masterpiece. One of best driving physics ever of old cars plus huge car collection that all handle and feel different and also have one of the most satisfying third person open world shooting. And great music and story

Thx to shittу Mafia 1 DE, I started to enjoy the third games especially for it's brutal combat (and with a dlc outfit it feels like a proper Punisher sequel)

Hangar 13 didn't shy away from making a mature game with controversial subject matter such as, the KKK, racism, etc. Granted, they were prevalent at the time. Mafia III has a very dark tone, unlike the first two entries in the series. It's a shame that the game has technical issues such as, bugs and glitches. The driving could've definitely been improved. The mission structure is repetitive. At the end, you either interrogate or eliminate a given target. You can't do much of anything once you take over a racket. It would've been nice if you had actual control instead of simply assigning a racket to one of your three partners. It's a really neat system that Hangar 13 could've done much more with. During my first playthrough, one of my lieutenants, Thomas Burke got upset at Lincolon Clay and he wanted to kill him because I didn't assign enough rackets to him, which I thought was a really interesting mechanic. Lincoln Clay and the various characters are very interesting and intriguing. The story is mature, dark and powerful. The world of New Bordeaux is amazing and it's fully realized. The setting and atmosphere are top notch. Voice acting and facial animations are excellent. Music is great. I even found the shooting and melee takedowns to be satisfying. Hangar 13 had the opportunity to make a masterpiece. It's unfortunate that it wasn't the case because I really liked most of everything that the game has to offer. Perhaps, someday, Hangar 13 will make a much deserved sequel. Mafia III's solid foundation has already been built, aside from some repetitiveness and technical issues. I'm actually thinking of doing a second playthrough because I genuinely enjoyed it the first time around.

@@MrJenssen Maybe, what I should've said is that Mafia III has controversial subject matter such as, racism towards black people. The video does mention it by the way. Of course, nobody with common sense would disagree that racism is indeed a bad thing. Racism in itself is a controversial topic. The game has no problem tackling the issue of racism towards black people. It was prevalent back then and it's prevalent now. It's actually a core mechanic of the game. If Lincoln Clay drives around in a vehicle, then the police will be suspicious of him. He can't enter a business establishment without being told to leave. If a crime happens in a neighborhood that's occupied by black people, then the police will completely ignore it. Whereas, they'll show up quickly if it happens in a neighborhood that's occupied by white people.

Everything you say about rackets is true. But hangar 13 was planning to do way more than that. In an interview they said they wanted to make the whole racket and districts gameplay dynamic with everyone fighting and making allies. Unfortunately they were pushed to rush the game. If you see who the publishers are, I am not even surprised. 2k is know if rushing the vast majority of the games they publish to the point that they feel broken. Gta, nba and a lot more.

I was so excited for this game but it was such a let down I actually like the gunplay, it's nothing spectacular but the guns feel powerful and violent But I thought the driving sucked, and everything you have to do in between the story missions started to feel like a chore rather than anything enjoyable

I played the original release, without DLC's etc. and I kinda liked if for few hours, but then it indeed began to feel that everything is repeated constantly. It's insane how fast game began to feel repetitive. I really liked the plot, setting and music etc. but damn that gameplay just simply sucked and I just couldn't play it through.

I thought all the voice actors were really great and it was a fresh take on the franchise

It genuinely pisses me off how this game get to be hated this much simple because the open world is mediocre when the plectra of Ubisoft games and CP2077 included still gets all the praise when they suffers from the same problem and worse,False Advertisements. Like Don't get wrong Mafia 3 has its own downsides and everything like any other games i,e Optimisation issues,Glitches and a Repetitive Gameplay all that but it's still a damn fine game with a Fun Combat system,A Stellar Campaign,Soundtrack,Asthethics,No RPG leveling Bullshit and has one of my favorite video game badass protagonist that's just not getting enough attetion..Dude is literally Punisher in its peak form. And guess what ?...I've actually enjoyed my time in this game than CP2077 and Recent Ubisoft open world games purely because the devs for this game didn't hype this game to oblivion as if it's gonna revolutionary or whatever.Hell i don't even remember they claiming this is gonna be a bit sandboxy game to begin with.
