You can buy the DVD. Comes with. CD AND 6 more songs. Absolute, great quality. Devoto keeps everything buried. The man does not like the spotlight. Don't know what he lives on.

For me, the greatest band of the post-punk era. Howard Devoto's lyrics are in a league of their own. The songs stand up straight and tall all these years later. Like many fans of this incredible band, it saddens me that they failed to receive the success they so rightly deserved. Massively influential and in every respect, utterly iconic. I cannot say that of any other UK band of that era with the same passion.

Yes, a very fine song among a host of other masterpieces. But for me Rosalie with her beautiful soaring vocals greatly enriches the pathos of this song. Watch her eyes too, they burn enigmatically like the eyes in the backdrop. A stunning performance all round.

After getting into Magazine just after the split in 83, I never thought in a million years I’d get to see them, but, unbelievably…I saw them at Latittude Festival 2009/ 2010…utterly brilliant! After decades out of the limelight and involved in a completely different career, Howard and the co turn up and it’s like they’ve been doing it there entire lives. I’ve seen hundreds of bands over the years all of which I enjoyed, but Magazine along with one or two other bands such as the Cocteau Twins, have been the pinnacle.

Howard's lyrics are sublime. Hard, Kind, smart, cruel, confused, violent, loving, hating, funny. One of the all time great bands. The opener "The Light Pours Out of Me" is wonderful. Into pandemonium.....
@SpudgunMeUp3 жыл бұрын
Excellent comment. Much better than "so underrated". Thanks for explaining why you think they're sublime. I completely agree. I listened over and over to Secondhand Daylight in 1980 as a seventeen year old. It scared the shit out of me initially, e.g. "Permafrost" "Rhythm of Cruelty", what was Devoto thinking? I dug into everything they released subsequently, Devoto solo and Luxuria. Technically, I think they were the best band of the punk / new wave era. Great musicians. Love the back up vocalist channeling Louise Brooks in this performance too, she has great vocals.

I have such happy memories of this night despite tears of emotion as The Thin Air struck up at the start (That track always gets me - thank you Mr Formula). The band were on fire and as Howard rightly says, "They are still Magazine". I was blessed to be right at the front between Howard's and Noko's monitors and appear frequently in the video (sorry about that). They guy to my left had travelled from Chicago to see the tour at Glasgow and again here in Manchester and there was me thinking I was their biggest fan :-) ha! I'd waited something like 30 years to see them again, having previously seen them at Exeter University when I was a kid and a mate had smuggled me in to see the band. Utter joy to be a fan of this superb band - more please.

I love Magazine, the most under rated band ever. Took my wife and kids (17 and 12, the kids not the wife). We were blown away how good they were. Sure I saw them back in the day, the others didn't. Big Bazza on Bass was coolness personified. But we also met up with my mate, who is a cool hipster arty playwright type and goes to every Gig in Manc pretty much. And he said it was the best gig he'd seen in ten years. (Second were Wire). Great songs, greatly performed!!

Listed a little more as I read all the reviews as to how great they were and still are....I kept listening...found myself unable to stop...I get it... There is original genius here and it is so obvious. ...These guys are to punk what Allan Holdsworth was to jazz..I truly believe that massive success would kill what made them who they were...and still are...and will forever be..Hats off indeed.

Have never been to Manchester UK but have dwelled so much in its sonic worlds throughout a misspent N.-American-tethered youth that I feel like I have somehow walked down its streets in many strange dreams. (Greater Manchester/Liverpool sphere, really -- EATB, Teardrop Explodes, Fall, Magazine, Smiths, Stone Roses, ...) Of course we have no city quite like that here; Chicago, perhaps comes closest -- the collapsing post-industrial identity, a working-man's city still in many ways, the harder/harsher & more defiant sounds that city's life has nurtured at times) and we have various small cities/towns named after your city. Spent some formative years in Scandinavia and that northern-skies-and-streets-and-faces feeling never left me so maybe that's why I have always connected so peculiarly with Manchester artists/works.
