I love Magazine! Legends all around. Future Bad Seed on bass and future Banshee on guitar. Then there's the former Buzzcock. 4 of my favorite bands.

I was there. This performance was filmed at the Santa Monica Civic, not the Whisky. In fact, today (08/15/2015) is the 35th anniversary of the show, staged at the Civic, for the filming. The show went in this sequence, from beginning to end: Chelsea X Pere Ubu Magazine The Cramps I missed all of the previous Magazine performances in LA except this one. (About 5 or 6.) And as it would turn out, this would be Magazine's last performance in LA.

@Skip King Hey Skip!!! I lost track of you and ML after I got thrown off Facebook in 2016. Are you sure about the running order? (I know you're meticulous.) The person who drove me to that Urgh! night just posted this about the show on the Night Flight site: "The Dead Boys played a lackluster set as the crowd filed in. Pere Ubu followed, the lead singer was particulary eccentric. Wall of Voodoo played their set with sardonic comments from Stan the singer. He ended the show after a rousing version of Back in Flesh by announcing. "Thanks a lot for coming. We really love ya. Show business is... is my life." The Members followed with a competent bassheavy set. Then Magazine." Unfortunately I can barely even remember being there (both nights) so I have no recollection of who played on which night. - G.E.

P.S. Also, if you Google posters for the Civic shows, you'll find at least two different ones that have the lineups as August 15th - The Cramps, X, Dead Kennedys and Chelsea August 16th - Magazine, Pere Ubu, The Human League (replaced by The Dead Boys), The Members, Wall Of Voodoo licorice-pizza.blogspot.com/2006/07/urgh-music-war.html

urgh a music war for sure! what a concept band . Devoto created post punk art rock almost himself but it sure helped having BA funky bass that Mcgeoch guitr and Formula and Doyle wailing away too. March 15th is mine and Howards Bday! just found out.

Love those kids slam dancing around in several of the LA concerts for this URGH! event. Some of them frequent the camera shots throughout the film and I think it's just so funny! Jealous of you if you were there back in '80. I was a boring 16 yo in Massachusetts then.

I was there, too. Santa Monica Civic. The Whiskey stage is about 10% that size. But, I did see them at the Whiskey about a year-and-a-half earlier.

I will never get over how they actually took the mishearing of the line "I know the cadre will look after me" as "I know that Carter will look after me" and RAN WITH IT :D
@terrypussypower10 жыл бұрын
Hmm...don't know about that ! After all, in a later version, Devoto sings "Reagan" instead of Carter ! But if you know something I don't then fair enough.
@jaredrichardson892010 жыл бұрын
I thought that too! But I thought he meant Howard Carter who dug up Egyptian mummies and stuff.
@drrmdjr8 жыл бұрын
+terrypussypower Hmmmmm...now I always thought since the song has alot of food references, that he sang like, "....I know the cutter will, look after me.." I thought he was singing about a butcher. haha

nappyheadhoes They (mishread lyrics!) are called "Mondegreens" and there's a website, in fact a few websites, dedicated to them! You should check out the "Mondegreen" one, it's really funny.

Okay gearheads out there, I hope you can answer me this. While I can identify the electric guitar, string synthesizer and electric grand piano manufactured by Yamaha (and certainly the Hammond Organ and ARP Odyssey), can anybody identify the bass and drums being used here? Are they also Yamaha products per chance (or are the drums Ludwig)?
@synchromystici5m9 жыл бұрын
+ShreadTheWeapon The bass is an Ovation Magnum. No clue about the drums though!

Thank you nevertheless,Mr. Technique
@mindtpi8 жыл бұрын
+ShreadTheWeapon I think it's actually a Wurlitzer electric panel - I know he owned one and the name on it looks two long for Yamaha. Organ is Hammond B3, Arp Odyssey and Arp Solina. I know he also owned a Prophet 5 but I can't see it here. Bass is Ovation Magnum 2
@Shred_The_Weapon8 жыл бұрын
