Per nulla ricalcante la Callas, crea un personaggio dalle viscere, ora dolce, ora isterica, femminillissimo, con quegli splendidi eccessi veristi di cui e' assoluta padrona.Un capolavoro!

Best Medea I've heard since Callas (who's still my favorite)! I love how Olivero is not afraid to sing with a choked, harsh, sometimes downright ugly tones! Adds to the role. Brava, Olivero. Thank you for posting.

Interesting. Your words "choked, harsh, etc." sound like Verdi's description of how Lady Macbeth should be sung.

​@@danawinsor1380 Actually, not at all a coincidence. I've known of Verdi's description for Lady Macbeth for many years (over 50). And I've always felt the same description is well applied to Medea. In my opinion, the only 2 sopranos I've heard sing the role this way are Callas and Olivero (and possibly Deutekom as well). I typically am not impressed with sopranos who sing this role with a beautiful tone to their voice, same as with Lady Macbeth.

She's incredible. Callas still owns this role, but Magda's version is the next greatest. No other singer I've heard (Caballe, Jones, Farrell, Gencer, Rysanek, Sass) comes anywhere close to Magda in this role.

She chokes on some parts of the recitativo, but she's phenomenal on some parts as well. Her voice here was beautifully acidic and dramatic.

Brix Valle ... I agree with you. For me, the choking actually even adds to the performance. More dramatic and harsh this way. This is the best Medea I've heard since Callas.

Theodore Gavaliatsis...I agree with you about her harsh sounding chest voice. However, that actually adds to the drama of the piece, and should be sung with a harsh voice like this. Callas did the same thing.
