Lovely tour, Thank You for walking all over, including along Edison Walk plus gardens. Magdalen (pronounced 'Maud-Lyn') also includes the building across the road (High Street) facing the Oxford Botanic Gardens -- Daubeny Building, where rooms may be rented out for a few days to a few months (gorgeous rooms with kitchens & en-suite, some of them with split-level lofts). Across the waterway is a student residence which can also be rented out for a few days-weeks (usually during summer, featuring more rudimentary accommodation) -- Waynflete. Overall, a gloriously beautiful college!

Thank you for this extensive tour, both within the college, and the surrounding gardens and parks. Magdalen College was established in the Fifteenth Century, and quite possibly one or two of the doors( or more ) may be centuries old also - made of solid English oak.Magdalen has had a deer park since the Seventeenth Century, oh, and yes, every year on May 1st, the college choir greets the dawn from the top of the college tower - and draws large crowds to watch and listen. Thank you once again, very well done :)

Is this the first college that you have wandered around? Many / all /most of the original Oxford colleges are arranged on the same basis. Thenumober on the entrance is the staircase number. I think there's a list of the students somewhre near the entrance - if not there's a name on each door (I'm not an Oxford Man, thus may have got it wrong...). JCR = Junior Common Room. Ithink the large room with the metal 'things' might have been the old college kitchen, with perhaps the rods and gears were the spits for cooking meat?? The large copper pan is for soup or vegetables. You later walked down to ? Magdalen Bridge which is over a small tribitary of the Thames. Many years ago we took our own narrow boat along that stream (which was very narrow and had some tight corners in it...

With the burgeoning number of students over recent years, and the need for most colleges to build extensive accommodation units, a variety of different methods are now used, rather than 'staircase numbers ' I believe :) Many colleges have very helpfully uploaded short, introductory videos to KZbin aimed at prospective students, but offer useful insights into accommodation, both within the college grounds and outside, together with student resources, food, sports and activities, libraries and additional funding for any chosen course of study - all a far cry from my day, but all for the better :)
