Well she did achieve everything she could possibly achieve. Was the same thing with Nico Rosberg when he won the championship in Formula 1 in 2016,he immediately retired because he had achieved his goal of beating Lewis Hamilton for the title. Nevertheless Magdalena was one of the best to ever perform in this sport.

@@MoritzGe0106 well in F1 one worldchampionchip is extraordinary, but most drivers don't try to stop at one. I get it that it was his sole wish, but I think he also knew that he had relatively slim chances of beating Lewis Hamilton again. He was a great driver, but overall Lewis Hamilton was better. But I wish he had stayed, atleast he would put up a good fight instead of Bottas. Neuner on the other hand was dominant for several years, so her stepping down really felt like there was nothing to win for her anymore.

The target is 11.5 cm across (4.53"), and the distance is 50 m (54.7 yards). If the butt of the rifle is 51 m from the target then changing the direction of your rifle by 0.065 degrees changes a perfect hit to a miss. This is equivalent to changing the position of the muzzle by 1.13 mm (0.044", or about 3/64). Also, when they're lying down the target is less than half as large, only 4.5 cm across.

I know these are rimfire, but we have to realize they're shooting miniscule targets compared to what we're used to in say, Brutality matches or 2G ACM. That rate of fire and accuracy is damn impressive considering the nature of what's being engaged. I do think biathlon would be a lot more fun with service caliber centerfire, especially with accurized, pre 1945 bolt action rifles. But I think that de-gamifies the scoring regimen too much to make it suitable as a competitive sport (even accurized service pattern rifles aren't as mechanically accurate as Biathlon rimfire rifles) and also make range backstops much more expensive to build. So I get why biathlon went to rimfire, even if it's 1, a bit underwhelming to the senses when you're on the range itself, and 2, a bit thematically dissonant. Why'd you be skiing and shooting a super heavy 22 rimfire piece? If you're trekking and need to hunt varmint, it's with a rimfire light carbine. If you need to hunt terrestrial mammals or patrol, you need service centerfire cartridges anyways. So that's probably what bothers me. The thematic consistency is wanting. Doesn't detract to the absolute skills required in that sport in the slightest, though, let me be very clear about that.

Biathlon is awesome. It used to look random and boring to me. But then I watched a full race and saw how dramatic and thrilling it is to see the leaders change at the shooting stations, and now it’s one of my favorite winter Olympic events.

We need an American version of this. It would go like this. 1. Eat a large hamburger and a pound of fries, and drink a 2 liter of Mountain Dew. 2. Run 50 yards. 3. Shoot a 500 Smith and Wesson Magnum revolver.

Naw. It would be more like this to be "correct": 1. Eat a large hamburger and a pound of fries, and drink a 2 liter of Mountain Dew. 2. Remain seated in truck while drinking your choice of dessert. 3. Spray target with high cap. full auto rifle. (lasers/tracers/belt feed/motorized drums/apologies to injured are optional) 4. Proceed to drive-thru podium to collect your medal, and a 12 pack to celebrate on the drive home.
