NPC Advantages: no requirements. gardevoir (life dew), burners (drifblim, arcanine), and paralyzers (bellibolt, umbreon, and dudunsparce) help. sylveon (charm) and intimidators (tauros, staraptor) can help but the significance varies depending on sceptile's dragon dance usage which is inconsistent.
Strategy: 2x iron defense, draining kiss until your stats reset. 3x iron defense, calm mind, charge tera orb with draining kiss if needed, terastalize, tera blast until shield breaks, draining kiss to victory.
Notes: fairy tera magearna is guaranteed to get 1HKO'd by a leaf blade critical w/ sceptile at +6 atk after terastalizing, which is very likely to occur due to leaf blade's elevated critical hit ratio and unlimited dragon dances. intimidators help but they cannot consistently keep sceptile's atk down enough to solve the problem (at +5 it can still OHKO, at +4 it can take 90% of the HP bar). stellar tera solves this completely by retaining leaf blade resistsance throughout the match, so sceptile instead uses thunder punch, which is 3x less likely to have a critical hit, and a crit takes at most 66% of magearna's HP bar. magearna is the perfect species for stellar tera because soul heart reverts the spatk debuffs from using tera blast. Due to the way stellar tera works in raids, tera blast is the only move that can take down the shield. since soul heart makes calm mind minimally necessary, calm mind can be replaced with dazzling gleam or fleur cannon, which can boost damage output after the shield breaks.
Pros: incredible critical hit resilience due to base steel/fairy typing and stellar tera, supereffective tera type matching base type, great HP and spdef stats, excellent def and spatk stats, immune to breaking swipe. resists leaf storm and leaf blade. iron defense buffs 2 def stats. calm mind buffs 1 spatk stage. draining kiss heals and deals supereffective STAB (tera-boosted when terastalized) damage. tera blast has 100 base power (when terastalized), and deals supereffective STAB damage when terastalized. soul heart gives 1 spatk stage each time an NPC ally is KO'd, which lessens the need for buffing with calm mind and counteracts the spatk debuffs from using tera blast. covert cloak prevents paralysis from thunder punch (which is more of an issue for stellar tera magearna since it retains its base typing throughout the match).

How do you get Magerna? I read different things. I read that you need to complete the national dex, is that Pokemon Home? I read that you need to complete the Scarlet/Violet Pokedex 400 and then get from Jacq, bit I couldn't figure out how to do that. I completed the entire pokedex on scarlet including expansions.

there is a magearna that you can get if you complete the Pokemon HOME national dex through gen 8. there is no way to get magearna in SV. there was an event in pokemon sun and moon, where you scan a QR code after beating the game. that might still work.

@DaniSoloRaids I had a magerna from sun and moon but I think I lost it when I stopped my pokemon home subscription a while back from the ds. I wouldn't have any way to recover that one. Anyway, completing the national dex seems pretty crazy. How long would that take? I doubt I could get anyone to trade me all the legendaries needed.

it occurs to me that in order to get the magearna from HOME, you might need to first get the magearna from sun/moon because otherwise you wouldn't be able to complete the national dex, unless your HOME pokedex still has it marked as caught despite your subscription lapsing. you could probably get it again in sun/moon by starting a new game, but then you'd have to play through that whole game to beat it before you can get it. hopefully gamefreak provides a more convenient way to get ahold of it in the near future. until recently meloetta was in the same boat until they added it in the DLC, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
