Thankyou....ive been trying to get this song right for decades. I have some old pics of Ron playing bass onstage. This was most likely recorded with a late 60's blonde maple neck fender telecaster bass through an Ampeg b15 amp.

Somehow I could always tell that a “guitarist” was playing bass here. Much like the debut record from Boston. Scholz played all the bass parts!

I'm not exactly sure if this is the "original" recorded Bassline on the record or not, but I like it, it is a bit "busy", but that's what I like about it, those lines are not at all "predictable", I dig it.

Great stuff, well played :) Not enough (any) mistakes for it to be like the original though haha

I don't think this is Ronnie Lane's isolated bass of Maggie May. It's in the Likeness of Ronnie Lane, and a lot of the bass lines are exact or at least very close , but it's not the '72 original of Ronnie. I've been Working out the bass to Maggie May, and also working on Its all Over Now. I like his bass lines a lot and what I've noticed especially in the song, It's All Over Now is his bass lines are almost a series of Fills. By1969 Ronnie was using a custom made Zemaitias bass and he played with a pick, his timing and feel was different and very very good. His runs would start and stop in places that just feel different to me , Also he would vary almost all his runs, A little different each time when he could have repeated the same over and over. His sound did vary . sometimes clean, sometime distorted. Even when it was bass distorted I can here a little brightness of the pick . I think he was really good and could sing too. Check out Ronnie lanes Slim Chance.

You are right Denny, it is not Ronnie Lane playing here. It's my humble interpretation of Ronnie Wood's bass line that I track for friends who were recording a cover of the song. Thanks for your comment!

I think maybe he could have squeezed a few more notes in there somewhere.😉

It’s better than the original, I hear lots of mistakes on the original. I always said the bass player should have played along with the song a few more times before he recorded it. I didn’t know it was Woody

DaveShmadeCalabria , the “mistakes” are part of the charm. 🤓

Its perfect. I wish the bass track wasnt hard panned to one side.

I though it was the original isolated track. If its not then whats the point.

Ronnie Lane recorded this bass line. This is a Faces song. Rod Stewart was the singer of this band before he went solo. Ron Wood and Rod Stewart came in the replace Steve Marriot after he left to form Humble Pie. Ronnie is very much a true bassist.

Had McCartney played this part - no one would say 'it sounds like a guitar player played this. Macca could have easily written this part. He would've put more slides in it..

It wasn't Ronnie Lane on bass?

Make isolated bass on this song freedom of The Deep Purple 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Yeah this isn't the original track at all. Fun fact in the recording if you listen after the solo he actually hits a wrong note and doesn't play for a solid second lmao.

I'm sure Ronnie Lane NEVER played this song the same way twice ever. Real good interpretation.....good vibe!

The bass line in this song is the melody. All the other parts are just chords apart from the mandolin melody in the intro and outro, at which point you'll notice the bass just playing sustained notes.
