Hey, man, good call on saying the mandolin is like the guitar but stringed upside down! I didn't see it that way when I picked up the mandolin. Now it's easier to work out the chords. Dig it!

Richard hartness Good for you, I did that about 1.5 yrs ago. Still only play 8-10 songs but I love the finger and brain training I get from translating my guitar songs to mando. Not really blue grass good but I can play some songs that feature mando. Just learned Maggie May and sorta learned Losing my Religion.

Hey man this is a silly question but I’m also a guitarist / mandolin very much second. Got a pretty nice Eastman Mando - not sure what strings come on it if they’re coated or anything - I usually dig older non coated strings on my acoustics…. I love how yours sounds in this vid, nice and fat. Do you have preferred Mando string set?
@tonedr5 ай бұрын
congrats on your Mando! Thanks for the kind words, I do prefer a darker tone, don't like too crisp - I mostly use flat wound strings. Little to no string noise and darker tone.

Dandy on the Mandy there Dale. I haven’t picked up my mandolin in a LONG time. It might have grown roots by now. I love it! Do you know Zeppelin’s Going To California? Hey, there’s a band to run by Mike and do a few songs about. Either way, can’t wait until October! Tony

Hey Dale! This video is fairly old, so how is the mandolin playing going? You can do Maggie May with the LLB now! There's a place in the outtro where he does this nice little 9 note walk down, that always gets me, right after he sings "Maggie, I wish I'd, near seen your face" the last time.

Hello. Love the video and will take your advice re: choice of pick, have already ordered two as I find the rounder part of traditional picks help with my tremelo and tone. I have always loved the mandoin parts on Rod Stewart's "What Made Milwaukee Famous" and was hoping if you got some time you would consider making a turorial?

i use Wegen mandolin picks...i've used them for some time now and use them for guitar too. They are tri-corned but rounded off. I love the fee and the tone they have and you can use any way you pick it up because all side are the same! Here's a link to the Wegen site i use the M100's. If you want to shoot me your shipping info i'll send you a couple. Please let me i'd be honored to.

hello Jordan...this is a Collings A style mando, this one has a varnish finish and i'm thankful to have it. Collings mangos start in the 2K range and up. I don't play as many mangos as i do guitars but some Epiphones i've played are good - you might look at some Michael Kelly, Kentucky or Washburn. best of luck in your search!
