Hey Maggie! :) I just discovered Colm McGuinness Music. His voice goes INSANELY deep! I saw the videos of Misty mounains cold, and one of If I had a heart (by Fever Ray). He claims he doesn't alter his voice and it's all just extra layers, but his voice seriously is the deepest I have ever heard by far! You might like to give it a try! :-)

Yes. Metallica is the biggest metal band in the world. They not only survived the 80’s hair bands, the 90’s grunge, and the millenium… they thrived more than any of their peers. They helped keep metal relevant through when it wasn’t the new popular sound. They’ve had bed albums but even those were forgiven because following this band is like a book with a chapter for everything achievement and heartbreak that they’ve endured.

The first ballad that they did was on their second studio album, Ride The Lightning, a song called “Fade To Black”. It’s another great example of their range and a fantastic song too but, though I think it alienated some of their fans because many of them only wanted the hard stuff.

I am just so impressed with how many classically trained and opera trained musicians and singers are impressed by rock and metal when analysed in detail. It always seems to validate my passion and appreciation of the genre. I’m autistic and back in school (over 40 years ago) I done well in a test to figure out if we were musical! I should say I was only diagnosed autistic 7 years ago and I found learning music by ear way easier than via theory and notation. It shows, though, that writing off a genre of music because “it’s not my style” has the potential of leading you to miss out on new ideas that over time combine to become your style, whether your instrument is guitar, drums voice or whatever. It opens the mind to something pretty amazing!

For a generation of us that came up on Metallica in the early 80s this material kind of represents their shift towards a much more mainstream Hardrock sound which did bring them a bazillion new fans. Unfortunately it also meant that I had to wait in line with a bunch of people I would just as soon slap-in-the-face as have to deal with when it came to going to see the band. It's always tough because you're happy for the band and their success, but at the same time now that moshpit is full of jocks who didn't know what they were doing they were just there to hurt somebody, latecomers you really didn't understand the Genesis of the thrash movement that spawned Metallica,... There is a holier-than-thou Puritan vibe that it's easy to fall into when I look back on how precious their first three records were to me versus what came after the fact. But there is no disputing they've done very well for themselves, and they are certainly still an excellent Gateway band to getting people into heavier music.

I got into Metallica because of the Black album, Before that it was Manowar and Iron Maiden, bands like that. I don't think I would have been ready for the earlier Metallica. But then it went fast, The old stuff From Metallica, Sepultura, Slayer and Pantera amongst many was what I listened to for many years...And all that, i think, because of the Black Album Gateway. All that said I think, that putting "Latecomers" all in the same Category is wrong. Mosh pits Aren't a Trash only Thing. In my experience those who don't understand the culture amongst metalheads, are those that dont listen to it often, but like the softer material from a single metalband, and go to a concert. amongst that group that are a few that really fucks it up.

Grow up & realize we all change as we get older, been listening to them since "no life till leather" changed our lives! & was simply the air we breathed, as we got older so did they, to explore yourself as you get older is human, just because they're METALLICA they're still just men, they're musicians before metal! If you don't know that by now then you'll never know what they're about, grow up

When I first heard the name Metallica in the way back, I immediately imagined a loud hair band with rough voices, screechy guitar solos and that kind of stuff, Then I heard them... Interesting lyrics, skillful singing and playing and a real intent to create music. You can't tell a book and all that. Good music and good reaction Maggie. Nice editing too. 🎸

I've thoroughly enjoyed so many of these Rock artists and felt so many of their songs are raw and full of truths that society wishes to disregard, in a way which emphasizes the pain and fury, but also the passion and beauty that comes from unleashing those voices... A few months ago Metallica was on Howard Stern with Mylie Cyrus playing this song, celebrating the 30th anniversary of this song (and album). Mylie had recorded this song for her album and her producer contacted Elton John to do a piano intro and outro for the song instead of doing guitars on it. Elton zoom called into Howard Stern show while Metallica was there and said it was a no brainer doing the piano parts on this song because he thinks it is one of the best songs ever written. James, who wrote the song, was visibly moved at hearing Elton say this. Then Elton went on to say that Metallica is one of the best rock bands of all time. It was a special interview for sure.

You do have an a-dork-able quality that’s very fun and entertaining but more so it’s humanizing. You don’t edit out the “imperfections” you are extremely comfortable being, well l, you and that’s a reason we like you and your videos. Half of what you say about how people sing I don’t understand and half of the other half I think I know but probably don’t. Either way keep doing what you are doing and I’ll learn and be entertained. Also your snip of singing sound of silence just on a whim reminded me of why you are a trained singer and I keep my singing to the shower and vehicle. 😂

This is about their only “ballad” and they got a lot of slack for it but they are Metallica- they do what they want when they want. They wrote and create the music they are feeling at that time and I can respect that and will follow them forever! I've seen Metallica twice, both with the original bassist Cliff Burton, and almost a third time after his death, but I lost my brakes coming off the highway. I have seen Metallica 4 time's. And, if you take notice, what you hear on their album's, you also hear in their video's, because of their rigorous touring, to perfect their stage playing. Also, if you haven't done it, yet? You should check out their Moscow 91' video, where they did "Enter Sandman". Since the concert, where they had 4 stage's up, with AC/DC, Dio and other's there, for 4 day's, where they had a record amount of 1.6M people there. It started out, a paid concert. But, they decided to keep people from being hurt, to make it open to all(Yes, a few did die, as well as some did get injured. But, the amount of a usual concert, with the injured, not death's), to keep the tension's down and keep from having fight's and so much more, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union and this was the reason why they put restriction's on how many people could be at concert's, as well. You will also see the military and even the elderly people havin a great time!

I saw Metallica, GNR and Body Count (with Ice T) @ Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. It was James first concert back after recovering from the burns he got from the pyro accident. What a show! Body Count opened and got escorted off stage by the SDPD after they played a certain song as their closer. Metallica and GNR were co-headliners so they rotated their order of appearance at different venues throughout the tour and if I remember correctly GNR took the stage next. About 3/4 of the way through their set they managed to set one of their banners depicting the 2 different color album covers that represented the double album Use Your Illusion on fire from the pyros. It took forever to set up the stage up for Metallica so they started a “kiss cam” type of thing on the big screen which quickly turned into flashing various parts of the female anatomy at the merciless prompting from the crowd. All 3 bands put on top notch shows and between the long set ups between each band the extended sets, it was about a 6-7 hour show and I remember a PA announcement about the venue running out of beer which didn’t make anyone happy. Probably the best concert experience of my life! The only other shows that came close for me personally was Cinderella and Queensryche at the San Diego Sports Arena and the first IHeart Music Festival at the MGM Arena in Vegas.

Hi Maggie, You should react to Master of Puppets, Live concert, Seattle 1989. Some says, it is their best concert ever. I came to their concert in ‘99 in Denmark, Roskilde Festival, best experience for me. I was in all black, Metallica black hoodie, black pants/trouses, military boots and long black hair. Many people I met showed med this 🤘followed by “YEAH” I really like your reactions, especially Nightwish reactions and your love for music. Keep going, you’re a badass!
