Well, Voiceplay is releasing the Wicked Medley on Thursday which i have listened to at least 20 times since they released it to Patreon supporters. It is definitely one of their best, and I'm pretty sure Layne turns into an actual drum set at one point. Oh, and you haven't reacted to Halo yet which is also a must.

The four steps are from the original universal monster film poster poses. Frankenstein holding out both arms, the wolf man with hands by sides howling up at the moon in half profile, Dracula hiding behind his cape hanging from his arm and finally the mummy with his arms bandaged to his chest. Cooooool. Steve

New to the wonderful world of Geoff and Voiceplay. Can't get enough. I noticed in this video; his wife's hand is visible and she vibrates when Geoff hits the D1.

Apart from his voice, one of my favorite things about Geoff is his sense of humor. You sometimes miss the little aside bits in the Voiceplay tunes, like his expression when J.None steals his line at the end of the Little Mermaid Medley. But he has a lot of byplay with Layne (who is funny as heck) and he’s just fun to watch.

If you watch closely when he hits his low notes you can see her hand twitch (when in screen). Even she has trouble not reacting to the low notes measured on the Richter scale. Also with the speed shift of the moves, it gives a little more tolerance to timing. If , for example , Dracula Geoff is a 1/4 second off, just speed up a little more or slow it down a bit to match in. Plus the pauses in motion can be cut down to make the start of the motions line up. Regardless he had to be pretty close or it would not have worked. Amazing editing , creativity and well everything.

The ‘Geoff dance’ is the iconic movements of the classic Universal movie monsters; Fankenstein’s monster’s arms straight out, the Wokeman’s howl, Dracula’s cape and the Mummy’s crossed arms.

I heard quite a few bass singers, and what I like about Geoff's voice is his wide reach from deeper than deep bass to high pitched tones. I love that!

Monster Mash It's even cleverer that you know. Geoff has said elsewhere “Did you pick up on the "la la la" section? It's Bach's toccata and fugue in d minor, just shuffled and swung”. And at the end, there is a hint of Fur Elise. Clever stuff huh? That is his wife Karhy screaming :) The monsters are Dreacula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein's monster. The dances show Wolfman slashing, and howling, Dracula bowing over his cape, and possibly the mummy being wrapped or a bat wrapped in its wings. And no doubt more.

How fitting for him to start with the most traditional of scarey music organ solos, only all done in his voice. Not many people catch it, but most of his videos contain ‘Easter eggs’. He put out a full video on Patreon of all four ‘singers’ without close up cuts so we could learn the dance if we wanted. He also gave us a portion of the original video he filmed, which really was much darker, and not the feel he was looking for. I enjoy your reactions so much. Later this week VoicePlay is putting out a Wicked good video that I think you’ll really enjoy. Hope you don’t have to wait this long for that one. 💀

Loved the reaction to this. I see a lot of reaction videos where they stop just to see what note Geoff hit this time. So far, I've heard him hit a couple of notes lower than D1, I think he admits to B0 being his lowest. Rumour has it that he hit A0 once and he denied it, but then he tells everyone he's a tenor, so you are never sure what to believe. I guess you'll be receiving lots of letters in the post from guys who will want to do some video productions with you after what you said here. The wedding comes first of course :)

The props Geoff is receiving for synching up the actions of the Geoff Quartet couldn't have happened without a click track. Instead of burying the click track in post production different voices or sounds were applied to it and it just blended right in with the rest of the background. Fur Elise got riffed on three times leading up to the conclusion, and I wouldn't be surprised if the piano sound is a 'honkytonk' setting option on his keyboard. This is why I enjoy Geoff's solo work, he's not shy about using what's available to get the best result.

Like you said, it was sped up a little. He actually performed the entire dance at half speed and simply doubled it. He does also have a background learning choreography as well. A couple of the older Voiceplay (Orlando based group) guys got their start doing the stage shows at Disney World. I believe it's also how they know Rachel Potter who's featured in what feels like dozens of their videos. Kathy also does a lot of the production work for Voiceplay, as well as Geoff's solo work. It's hard to find a single video where she isn't credited.

Things to watch for: 1) Everytime Geoff hits a low note, his wife (on the left) twitches. 2) The three 'dancers' make the signature poses of classic Universal movie monsters-Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula, and the Mummy). 3) As others have mentioned, the LA-LA-LAs are 'Toccata und Fugue'. 4) A little bit of 'Fur Elise' at the end...was nice, It can be a haunting piece when slowed down. 5) Second from left is dressed as a Vampire (red scarf), second from right is dressed as a wolfman (slightly torn/disheveled clothing), and the far right is dressed as Frankenstein's Monster. 6) After left Geoff asks his wife to dance, check out far right Geoff. He starts to do the 'floss' dance.

I really wish I had maintained my voice, although I could never have hit his highest range I used to be able to match his lowest, and yes, it does shake buildings, which actually makes it difficult to find practice space in most buildings constructed to UK standards (it takes the plaster off the walls). I could never reach as high as a baritone though, never mind a tenor. Geoff covers the whole range! I only ever recorded once, as a member of a male voice choir when we were invited to record by the BBC - and that was really the first time I found out just how deep my voice was, as they had trouble finding a mic for me. I go (or went - my voice has risen with age and lack of practice) off the bottom of a keyboard by a couple of full tones, or even lower with very restricted power. It was beneficial for me as a young man, as when leaning on a chair I could resonate it with my voice, which caused "ahem" effects for any woman or girl sitting in it! :-) A bit later, I linked cause and effect (I'm pretty socially clueless) and reserved that benefit for my wife (34 years now, and kids all grown - none have my voice). I love Geoff's arrangement and performance of this (I wonder what mic HE uses?) and the sense of humour he shows. Absolute gold. And if I sing quietly enough, I can just about sing along with all but the tenor range parts, which adds to the fun (my falsetto has always been very hard to control, and wavers badly - never been scoped, but I suspect pretty thick vocal folds give the depth in the low register and makes the falsetto more challenging). I doubt it would be worth it now unless someone was interested in a scientific research program, as my singing days are a distant memory. I gather it is pretty standard for professional singers now though, and a researcher could just gather subjects by asking around among them. I'd love to know what physical differences set the pitch of someones natural voice though - just out of interest.

You missed one major detail! Far left Geoff is Dr Frankenstein…so the Bride of Frankenstein is his RL bride! She was, uh, dead tired for 3/4 of his epic arrangement! Great reaction 😃

You should check out some of the comments that he replied to, honey. I didn't read *all* of them, but one reply he made was "Did you pick up on the "la la la" section? It's Bach's toccata and fugue in d minor, just shuffled and swung." How cool is that, eh?! He turned my fave old party song into a stage musical! His talented, sweet, petite better half did an amazing job as well, helping to make this all come together! Him sounding just like a husband: "Oh. You're awake." And her being just like a wife-telling him how to dress! 🙄🤣😍 This really is my fave song right now, and I swear by all I hold holy-I *will* learn that dance, even if I throw my damn back out doing it! 😎🤕🤣
@mikerogers60763 жыл бұрын
FYI the opening vocals are Toccata and Fugue in D minor. The dance moves in order: Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman, Dracula and the Mummy all classic Universal Monsters.

I love his productions of Monster Mash, and "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Another good production that features Geoff Castalucci is "My Mother Told Me", by Voiceplay. Very impressive low notes there for sure.

@@maggiereneemusic Yes...I like all of your reactions. I'm definitely not a singer (and have not had a music lesson in decades), but I have to admit that I have learned a LOT about singing and music from your reactions. I mean...I had no clue what an E1 was until you mentioned it LOL. But now I can put Geoff's lows and highs into perspective.

His voice sounds so relaxed here. He looks really comfortable, too. I'm not gonna lie I am a bit jealous as a faux baritenor that I can't flex down anywhere near any of that. The D1 with attitude!

One nice thing you do that other reaction video hosts don't is add your follow-on thoughts into the video, along with animations. So, we get the first-listen reaction, as well as more well-considered thoughts.

Another good one with Geoff is “My Mother Told Me - Voicplay” his voice if wicked because he’s doing some kind of Celtic throat singing during part of it. Also there’s so many pitch changes, you’ll have to see it to find out!!!
@athlov3 жыл бұрын
It not throat singing; it's a technique called subharmonics.

The first makeup effort apparently was overly effective and it looked more like a horror movie that the campy result we actually get to see in the video. I'd love to see the what it looked like. You might not have caught Geoff flossing over on the right as Frankenstein's Monster - something you don't want to miss :) In addition to the bit of fur elise tossed in at the end, he started with Bach's Toccata and Fugue in d Minor as the backdrop for the "la-la-la" in the opening which was a great touch. Thanks for the reaction!!
@maeco73 жыл бұрын
Geoff actually put the first minute of his original take into a BTS on his Patreon! It's definitely a lot darker - more horror than fun. Cool to see, but I can definitely see why he decided to go more lighthearted.

Fun fact about Für Elise: It was written by Ludwig Von Beethoven for a girl he loved, obviously named Elise, for her to learn to play piano. When she didn't reciprocate his love before he finished it, he pulled the boss move of, instead of not finishing it, writing the part that he didn't do yet to be so hard to play, that she would never be able to play it without his help. That's why the beginning of the song is really sweet and easy-going, but then turns quite hectic. One of my favourite classical music facts! XD
