Magic dugout in the forest with your own hands. Start to finish

Hi friends)
All this time I was building a dugout and collected the whole process in one!
In this video, I dug a place for a dugout, put up a frame, walls and made a stove.
I also made a bed, a chair, installed doors and windows.
I covered the roof with turf, made a path and lined the dugout with stone.
I made fish for dinner.
The project itself turned out to be very interesting, cozy and reliable.

Here I sit behind my keyboard living vicariously through others on KZbin. Poor circulation in my legs resulting in rotting feet prevents me from building my own dugout. Not 20 years old anymore...lol. So BRAVO! on your energetic creativity! A few problems I noticed. You seem to have a good supply of rock and clay. One big rock falling out of the back wall onto your sleeping head is game over for you. I would have used clay mortar in all the rock walls. Also, during a heavy rainstorm water saturates the ground and moves downhill under the surface. Without a loose rock french drain behind a clay mortared back rock wall, the water will seep out and soak the sleeping area. Reference the '$50 and Up Underground House Book' by Mike Oehler. I prefer an outside awning so i can sit outside my front door in a rainstorm. And for better draw, your chimney needs to be about 2-ft taller. I prefer Rocket Mass Heaters, you might be able to build one using wood ash/charcoal and lye, if you don't want to haul perlite or vermiculite and homemade 'water glass' out to the dugout.

Lol I'm thinking it must be just Aussies that scratch and are confused people use green wood. Especially for fires. Maybe because most of our wood is hard and there's not much of it.... Ironbark for an example. I don't think I'd even want to waste a chainsaw on it dry

There is a science to it, specific to any area you may be,, straw, sand, even a bit of concrete can be added to strengthen & harden,, I wouldn't be able to give you much ,ore than that, as I am learning myself, but I do know , this is possible in nearly any area, you just have to test & experiment with what works best for the soil you have to work with... if by "making mud" you just mean taking dirt, wetting and shaping it ,, you have to be sure the clay, sand, concrete, straw ratio is there...
