using the google community spreadsheet, this is the number of shields breakable by each element fire 129 ice 128 thunder 117 wind 105 light 135 dark 108 Scholar only has 50% of the elements but 67% of monsters will have a weakness to atleast one of them. 32 monsters in the game have no elemental weakness at all

This is what I really loved about both OT1 and OT2 So many people have diverse builds and theres not really one thats more viable than another The team building potential in OT is something that i feel is under-appreciated, and it's one of my favorite parts about the series

Square Enix RPG's are truly something else when it comes to building team synergy. They made Final Fantasy and Bravely Default as polar opposites to potential and customizability, with Octopath Traveler offering a wonderful in between. They do a great job with gameplay, though music availability is horrifically scarce

While a lot of people saying magic is nerfed in this game, honestly I don’t really find it to be that way, I still do good damage with magic, and the setup ain’t that hard to do, it’s just alephan’s + peacock strut, and if you want to make it spicy just debuff them with ochette’s beast or latent, heck there are even items for it Personally I think the advanced magic system is very well done, in ot1 there was like 0 point to use the tier 1 spells once you unlock the rest, and scholar was basically useless except for its divine skill when you get sorcerer, this makes things more interesting

The only real nerfs to magic here are character exclusivity for the best forms of it, and elemental pursuit buffs being made far weaker because Runelord was practically gamebreaking.

​​@wesnohathas1993 also multicast spells being locked behind buffs requiring setup time (with the exception of a special weapon later on). And runelord being split into Arcanist and Conjurer actually feels like a roundabout buff imo. Having the damage runes and transfer shenanigans on separate characters means less competition for action economy.

In OT1, you can run magic build on anyone except Olberic and Haa'nit. While OT2 you got only 2 choices that are decent enough. The rest require lots of magic nuts to be good...

I run Olberic and Haanit Sorcerer and it still worked. Thats how OP that job is.

Octopath 1 endgame I had Therion as my sorcerer. Between Harald’s Blade and Heathcote’s Dagger, that’s a 60% buff to Ignis Ardere. Not much could survive that.

Sadly and strangely, there is no wind magic spell that can be doubled/tripled. It is possible to cast multiple wind-elemental abilites in one turn with Castti's concoctions and Ochette's "Provoke Beasts" EX Skill on captured wind-elemental monsters, but both methods will never inflict 99999 damage, no matter what setup you use.

Do it without 1 hp build. It is not a build that is strong. It is the Alpiones Amulet that carries.

With the right skills and build every single character can hit 99999 usually more than once. But hikiri definitely takes the cake for most damage with his latent ability(middle one) that’s let’s him hit 2 100ks then let’s him go again and if he uses limp learned skill he can hit 4 more 100ks which is 600k the most damage possible in a single turn

I just wish magic had more support skills to buff it than only having price of power to increase the damage. Maybe it's just me but even this one skill feels underwhelming. I feel like it deserves some more power for doubling sp cost. Maybe advanced magic master could've given a 25% buff to damage output on buffed spells instead of lengthening by one use.

magic is honestly just so underwhelming in oct2. it needs too much setup to be reliable most of the time. in oct1 you had the 3xspells all with sorcerer or starseer. in oct2 you alwasy need the divine skill buff to make em work + the latent power to give decent single target damage. physical damage is the only sane way to play this game imo

I agree that magic is underwhelming in Octo 2, but I think the change from having 1/2/3 tiered magic condensed into a single magic tier and being augmented by spells is a good idea, opens up the sorcerer/scholar to more skill slots that are less redundant However, to just get Stroke of Genius is just bleh. I'd prefer Scholar to start with the level 2 magic, and Advance making it level 3. Alephan then can be changed to something else

I can't decide if they're balanced or not. My magic users are still pretty weak compared to the physical damage dealers. Even now, at level 60 and above, they still have a hard time going above the first damage cap without extraneous amounts of setup. Even Temenos has trouble healing without MASSIVE BP usage.That's my issue, really. The heavy amount of setup this game has you do for the good damage. I think they pulled back too much

magic is strong in super early and late game but trash most of the game, in a nutshell it looks strong but it needs a lot to actually outshine physical options, this is also thanks to the methods how to debuff enemies magical resistance, while thief has phys def down, magic def down is hard to access early this video cries out loud "look at me I'm op" but it's actually an illusion and not representative how "strong" magic actually is

I would say magic sucks compared to ot1 a lot. But it is easier to reduce magic def in this game with temenos(very op) and ochette latent. Even with this though magic still sucks because aebors reckoning exists and you can only hit damage with fortitude band which is very highly contested. It is only good really late with 3 elemental boosting weapons and fortitude which is a big cost to pay and not even for that game breaking power. And also only Osvald and temenos can do anything with it

Try Themenos' prayer for plenty ex spell + peak performance. It's the opposite theory where peak performance increases your damage output when you are at max or above max hp. And unlike Alphiones amulet, you don't need to avoid healing party members or cursing at the screen cause the enemy surprised you at killed your 1hp nuke.
