Dirks run in the 2011 playoffs is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It was the right time, the right player, the right circumstances. He’s legendary, top 20 all time in my opinion. That 2011 run is one of the all time great playoff runs any player has ever had. So much grit and determination. He was on a different level than anyone else in the league. Absolutely unstoppable.

Dirk is actually a very underrated passer - he may not have stats to back up the assist totals but when he gets doubled he almost always makes the right pass and finds the open guy - wasn't always that way but his game has grown so much. Much Much RESPECT

People forget, the numbers Dirk threw up in the 2010-2011 playoffs season was no different than what he threw up his entire career in the playoffs prior to winning a championship. The difference was, he finally had a supporting cast that could help him. Sadly it was little to late and towards the tail end of his prime at 33 years old. But still. As a Maverick fan I'm bitter that Cuban refused to pay Nash. Had Dirk and Nash played together their entire careers. Kobe's Lakers and Duncan's Spurs would never had gotten 5 rings. It would of been those 3 splitting rings like crazy. That's the tragedy of Dirks career. The cast he never had compared to those other two teams. He took a team with no other all-star to 9 50+ winning seasons, 3 WCF appearances and 2 finals appearances all after Steve Nash left. Thats how damn good Dirk was. He's the most underrated super star of all time.

All those guys you just name weren't allstars at the time. Nobody outside of Dallas even knew who J.J Barea was. People were calling Kidd and especially Marion washed up, Chandlier wasn't even on people's top 5 center list until he came to Dallas, and Jason Terry(although well known)was always a distant number two compared to other big time teams number two guy. Face it, Dirk title run was one of the most impressive in recent member.

Dirk became a beast late in almost every game in this series that's when he was actually unstoppable! I can't take away all that much from the Mavs spectacular 2011 playoff run, they truly played championship basketball in all facets of the game. Those amazing comebacks showed true heart and desire of a champion, something the Heat seemed to lack especially James who was just a shadow of his former MVP self in that series, credit due to Marion and great defensive efforts of the Mavericks.

dirk had 1 bad game at iwas the last game but when you take into account that he averaged over 10points in the 4rth quarter for the series including 2 game winners, i would call that unstoppable. When you have the lead in the 4rth quarter of these game and literally 1 guy on the other team is scoring all the points. Dallas ran the same cross screen against the heat in the final 5 minutes and they couldnt get more then 1 stop in 5 minutes. UNSTOPPABLE

Shit, people!! Basketball is a TEAM sport! One fucking player doesn't make a champion. But one player can make a helluva difference. One player can set a standard, and make the other players around him better, and inspire his teammates to perform by either performance, or verbally/emotionally. The reason these Mavericks won: Dirk's stellar play, Tyson's emotional, powerful control of the paint, and their DEFENCE. Only after those came to fruition, it all fell into place

that's exactly what I'm saying. their resolve wasn't good enough before but has improved far more this year. Lebron proved he wanted it more with no sign of faltering to distractions as opposed to last year. tweets, inappropriate comments, immaturity (insulting Dirk's sickness). This year I saw no sign of loss of focus. I've never seen him so focused his entire career and didn't seem distracted nor did he pay any attention to the outside world. he even said "Chalmers, don't celebrate til buzzer"

I think Magic and Larry's rivalry was one of the best ever in professional sports history. as far as their playing. I'd say their number 2 and 3 behind Jordan. With Kareem being behind them and then mayb Kobe. Kobe's been through so much, has huge legacy, and still performing at a very high level playing 16 years in the league with those legs. As far as legacy, I think Kobe's legacy is far beyond anyone in the league right now. The closest would be Duncan, he's easily a top 20 player

I meant to say 15min, not 15mpg. You said that he only played 15mpg. You can't possibly deny that having only one viable point guard is not a weakness. House and Bibby were horrific throughout the entire playoffs, including the NBA Finals. Then Dwyane Wade got injured in Game 5 and LeBron James had been passive the entire series. With Mike Miller hurting, they had very little depth behind them as well. Their team lacked depth so badly that Spoelstra played Juwan Howard for a few minutes.

seriously think about that, duncan comes in to team up with david robinson, former mvp,71points in a game, quadtriple double. Next they draft manu who before coming to the nba was 2 time mvp and 2 time champion. Lets also add that manu faced duncan in the olympics and beat him in 04 where manu was named mvp of the olympics. Where dirk has lost all players worth keeping in his career such as nash and just last year chandler. Duncan had played his career with a core group of guys to win these rings

Dirk has to shoot contested jumpers and fadeaways over his defenders. While Chris Paul can maneuver around the defenders with his speed and quickness. Then when he drives to the hoop if anyone comes over for help defense, he has better court vision and passing abilities to get the ball to the open man. Being an offensive threat isn't just about your ability to score but your ability to create offense for your team and help your TEAM score.

@WilsonT011 His first year, he improved the Celtics 32 games in the win-loss. When he missed 76 games in the 1989 season, Boston replaced him with Reggie Lewis (who was 2nd in most improved player voting), yet the Celtics slipped from 57 wins to 40, despite having Lewis, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish on the roster. He turned the Celtics from a 29-win joke(2nd worst in the NBA) to the best record in basketball. Magic MJ, NOBODY else's team had that dramatic of a drop in production in HISTORY.

Someone argued earlier about who's a bigger offensive threat and said that Dirk can shoot over anyone. Obviously that factors in size and so I countered with the fact that CP3's speed and penetration allows him to be a more versatile offensive threat while also his passing helps make his teammates a better threats as well. My main point with that is Dirk would beat CP3 in a 1 on 1, but CP3 makes his teams better with his passing abilities.

dirk might play an average season this year, probably his worst since his rookie/sophomore ones. but you shouldn't forget he is in his 13th (!) year already. together with kobe, the only one who is still the absolute go-to-guy on his team with such an age. that still tells a lot about his quality, even with this season not going too well.

Duncan was finals MVP for a reason, he helped carry Spurs and made Manu and Parker look good as well as carrying an old Robinson. He led to multiple double teams and drawing fouls, without him, his team couldn't have produced as well offensively OR defensively. he did more than dirk on offense and on defense and he was close to unstoppable, dishing passes, fought for rebounds, getting blocks, scoring points, leading his team. Dirk just shot and rebounded

Cause he's definitely a Top 5 PF, but 101pepedog said Top 5 NBA, which means all positions. And Kobe-LeBron-Durant-Wade are easily the Top 4 in the NBA (not necessarily that order). And other than Dirk, there are plenty of eligible players for the Fifth Spot: Melo, Rose, Dwight, Paul, Deron, Love, etc. As far as PF goes, Dirk is definitely a Top 5. But even though it's definitely arguable he is the best PF, I wouldn't immediately put him over Love, Aldridge, or Smith.

Not the whole season, he stepped up in the playoffs which elevated him to Top 5. But 101pepedog's comment was made in the 2011-12 season, which is why I am arguing.

If you go back and watch what the spurs did to beat the mavs, they tripled team dirk and forced him to make other players beat them, the thunder and heat played 1 on 1 defense with help coming from the baseline, its a big difference not a excuse. Dirk is a jump shooter who can go to the basket lebron is not a pure shooter which is why this was the first time he scored over 25 in the finals. However he got to the free throw line where he made every shot count unlike LBJ plus this was a much maligned defensive series so nobody really shot efficiently except D-Wade who was a monster could of been the losing Jerry West MVP of this series possibly. Wade shot 57/108 in the Finals which equals to 54.6%, simply outstanding.

I never said those two teams could beat the Mavs, I said they could beat the Heat. And with the way LeBron played in last year's Finals, I strongly believe they could.

This is way better than Skip Bayless analysis. I watched Skip debate against Mark Cuban and Mark absolutely humiliated him. Mark asked Skip what do you use Zone defense for. And Skip didn't even say anything. It's like he doesn't even know much about basketball. He hardly uses stats and real facts. They should have retired nba players be the analysts all the time because they know the game.

Yeah I'm a Heat fan and I recognized Kobe's greatness how in the hell can you be a Laker fan and not? He can't carry a team like LeBron or Rose can, but he is a damn valuable player. He's not as much of an all-around player, which is why he can't carry a team alone. But he's the clutchest player in the league, has by far the best mentality, and his moves are the best in the league. He passes plenty, he just doesn't pass at the end of games, but he's Kobe would you really want him to?
