I'm so glad Tony Parker said w/ such confidence that "Luka is no Dirk" and doubled down on it w/ such a good answer. Because Dirk is in a certain class of all-time players and Luka is nowhere near that yet. Dirk is so humble and kind of downplays his career, but he is easily one of the Top 15 players to ever play in the NBA. THANK YOU TONY!
@andrewchester3527

Seen dirk flame out and disappear in playoff series too many times before his one title. Luka is one of the best playoff performers of all time already. If Luka wins an MVP and a title, which he most likely will, he will clear Dirk very easily.
@JonathanWoodall
@JonathanWoodall 3 ай бұрын
Dirk give's Luka his flowers because Luka is legit more talented/skilled than Dirk was at his peak. But so are most players today asf the range of toolbox/bag compared to that time. Dirk was actually Luka before Luka tho, in that he was the offense and there was a stretch where Dirk was just a lock for 50 wins. So yeah, Dirk is greater and arguably the best mid range scorer of all time bar MJ only, but I also get why Dirk said Luka is already better. Drop today's Luka with his skillset and size in early 2000s and he would stand out even more than he already does compared to his peers.
@LOveDoctorMusic23
@LOveDoctorMusic23 3 ай бұрын
@@JonathanWoodallthere’s so much crap that inflates stats nowadays tho. They’re making it easier to score by making it harder to play defense. If talent is supposedly better, defensive talent should excel just as equally and level out any huge jumps in ppg. But 30 or 25 ppg is commonplace now. And players way past the age of their prime are still scoring at prime levels. It’s because it’s not the same game.
@JonathanWoodall
@JonathanWoodall 3 ай бұрын
@@LOveDoctorMusic23 They aren't making it harder though. JJ reddick goes on a rant about this. All the recent rule changes have favored the defense and we are still seeing record offenses. They keep having to make new rules that favor the defense because offensive players keep evolving the game to gain fouls. Harden/CP3 were taking advantage of the lack of rules so they made new ones to prevent them from drawing the rip through foul. The assumption that defensive talent should excel just as much isn't true either, because you're not taking into account roster construction. It's not simply that players got better, its also that teams started favoring skill in general because the math favored it, same way with 3pt shooting. You could argue that Tony Allen, the best defender of his generation, wouldn't be on a finals team in today's NBA. He'd be on a team, like Smart but even Draymond impacted the game offensively way more than Tony. Closest comparison is Jrue and he's an elite offensive player. Teams cant afford to have offensive liabilities anymore and that's because offensive production started to heavily outweigh defensive impact. Think about it. On Christmas, Luka accounted for 92 points for the mavs. No defensive player mathematically impacts the game that much. I'm not saying it's good basketball to rely on Luka to do that, thats not the point. It's just that its simply not possible to do that defensively. You still need to be able to score and when you have someone like Luka, who is doubled nearly twice as much as the next guy and still can generate offense like that, you take that above any defensive player in NBA history. You're right that its not the same game and that stats are inflated but they are inflated because of offensive skill. That skill also creates longevity and adaptability, which is why 2010 stars are lasting so long.

A a spanish basketball fan, everytime I see Pau is a blessing. And...to me, the best memory I have from him is not any of the trophies or finals. Yes, it was back in 2015 when in the Eurobasket semifinals against France, playing in France he carried not just his fans, but the whole country. His face, that BEAST mode and the feeling of "this man has 40 million people laying on his shoulders" and we are all safe in his hands. It wasn't about money, they surely got well paid for that, but money didn't matter. It was about competing and give a 300% for your flag when you have everything against you. I cried watching that game for how beautiful a sport can be and make you feel as a fan...and it was a semifinal. THANKS PAU. Surely them 4 are all legends and I admire them too. But after that game you are my particular Hall of Fame President.

Thanks for this awesome conversation between these legends. So refreshing to see the mutual respect and maturity, especially between Dirk and DWade. Like many other Germans of my generation, I was a Dirk/Mavs fan when he entered the league and got more and more engaged as the years passed. Having followed Dirk's career through all the initial troubles, sudden stardom, expecation build up and subsequent massive pain in 2006, 2007 and the years after, despite always recognizing the greatness of DWade I could never bring myself to actually liking him during all those years... and of course savoured every moment of showdown in the 2011 run. :)) But now it's just fantastic to see two former competitors get along so well despite their past rivalries (even if more so for Dirk than for DWade, who maybe didn't even think of it as a rivalry). Big respect for DWade, incredible player, same for Tony and Pau and of course Dirk, who got a whole country basketball crazy. I'm glad I closely followed the sport in the primes of these guys.

*that 2011 Mavs run was Wild. I feel like it didn't matter who you were, if you got in the way, you were getting smoked 😂 only thing crazier than that was the 2014 Spurs run. EVERYBODY knew Spurs were coming back with heaters that year, it was personal* 💀

the crazy part is that in 2014, the toughest team that the Spurs have to face were the Mavericks. the 8th seeded Mavericks which they have a back and forth game.

@@robertdominicceasarsalvill2221damn as a Mavs fan we really thought that time that they can beat the first seed Spurs not until Blair got ejected on very close game 4 and suspended on game 5, they could have been up 3-1 on that game..

Mavs v Heat 2011 was truly one of the all time great NBA Finals of my lifetime. I'm 38 and aside from maybe the Heat Spurs finals with the Ray Allen shot, I cant recall a more fun series.

I love this...just seeing these guys let their guard down and talk about their vulnerabilities makes them so relatable. I'm a Spurs fan but Tony Parker never really showed the same kind of vulnerability on the court that Manu and Timmy did. Manu was always So visibally pumped or dissapointed and Tim Duncan was pumping his fists and getting excited way more than people remember but Tony rarely got super visibally amped on the floor. So it was easy to incorrectly believe he didnt care as much. But the story about how he almost didnt play for France in 2013....just opened my eyes dramatically. And really for all of them, just hearing their thoughts from the past....just getting chills thinking about it. Cant wait to watch Part 2!
