Amen. If you want to cry, watch the TNT special, which is also important. Both things-- laughing at treasured memories, weeping for an immense loss-- are part of grieving. The crazy thing is that this was supposed to be Magic. This exact situation-- this precise tragedy, taken too soon. HIV was a death sentence. He was retiring to go die-- or so we thought. It's to the point that I wonder if Magic surviving made this all the more unimaginable. These guys simply live forever. Well-- no, they're people like the rest of us.

When I was young I was a huge fan of Karim Abdul-Jabbar. So you can imagine how long it has been that I have been a Lakers fan. I knew Magic Johnson during his prime. The day the news came to me about Kobe I was in a daze. I am not like an ultimate fan of Kobe don't get me wrong but the icon of Kobe for Lakers is different. I cannot imagine how his wife and kids feel. His daughter was so young. He was so young. I might not be significant to anyone but please have my heart felt condolences. It is never right to lose someone in an accident. Everyone's family on that helicopter, I hope eventually your pain will be eased.

Man he was amazing. I was 11 years old when he announced he had HIV and I was devastated similar to how it feels now about losing Kobe because we all thought Magic was going to die soon. It was absolutely horrifying if you could imagine because back then we knew so little about HIV and it seemed to be death sentence in short order. I’m so glad he’s still with us because he’s an amazing dude outside of his amazing career.
