@TRJ22419875 жыл бұрын
Again, Pierce vs LeBron Game 7 2008....I can't blame Paul for thinking he belonged in the conversation. He's not an icon on those guys level by the end of the story, and I'm sure the reaction to the death of Kobe makes it perfectly clear who the king was. I've felt this way at funerals with massive turnouts, where you truly realize how much that person touched people in a way that you never would. I think if Paul ONLY played for Boston it would have been special, but it just wasn't in the cards and he didn't feel like quitting yet.

Also makes me think of the behind the scenes iconic Jordan commercial from 2003 where Michael Jordan showed up to the set and was so angry to see an unknown athlete that was supposed to be "young Mike" in a Bulls jersey that he forced the guy to play him one-on-one and dominated him physically and emotionally over and over to prove that he "wasn't Mike"....The director didn't even think the commercial was going to end up happening because of the way Michael was acting...amazing to think of the guys who would not drop that competitive edge on the set of a commercial where it seemed so out of place to others

Everyone had a special relationship with Kobe. Shaq and Kobe, MJ and Kobe. But the Celtics and Lakers rivalry goes way back before we were born. Kobe and Paul Pierce truly hated each others teams because of this rivalry but at the same time they had the most ultimate respect for each other. They were true rivals. No racing for who had the most ships between the two. It was all about bragging rights ; LA vs BOSTON. With all the players moving teams all the time now, true rivalries between teams have been lost in the NBA. The Mamba and The Truth were the last ones to do it OG style with grit, physicality and tenacity that is barely seen in todays NBA. You truly saw them give their all for their teams back in the day. That’s why Kobe’s favorite ship is 2010 and that’s why Paul’s favorite Kobe moment is when he saw Kobe crying at the Boston Garden after the Lakers lost the finals. But Kobe and LA got the last laugh on Boston.

Those two matchups were epic and had so many storylines. If not for KG’s injury in 2009, they would’ve met three straight years.

This is still hard to fathom. Kobe is much loved her in the Philippines. As for most of our age group, we grew up watching Kobe after Jordan.

I was listening to Roggin & Rodney on AM 570 an hour ago and there was one caller who described myself. He was a diehard MJ fan. That's why we couldn't accept Kobe because we felt he was a threat to MJ for GOAT-status.

Thankful for the great two Finals matchups from these two, rivals like Kobe and Paul should have grown old and gotten to talk about the good old days and the battles they used to have, its a shame.

I still can’t believe. I cried so much Sunday watching the news my wife made me turn it off. It was too much. 2009 my brother and I lost our best friend who was like a brother to us to cancer. I feel the NBA family’s pain. It won’t go away but God will give you peace to keep going. God bless his family and family of the others that were lost. 💔🙏🏽🐍
