You’re precious. Multiple teams were caught throwing games over drugs in YOUR era and guys who were making multiple all star teams in the 80’s were junkies. It was a very watered down league that had a few guys who shined. Guys like MJ, Hakeem, Barkley and them fall into the category of tweeners who although played in the 80’s, are considered 90’s guys because that’s when they had their primes. Notice that MJ never won DPOY after the 80’s when the league was cracking down on the coke heads🤣

Thank you for this. What a player Magic was... Speaking as a lifelong fan of John Stockton and now Steph Curry, Magic was simply the best PG ever, and it's not even close. Casual fans forget that he was a genuine 6'9" and over 220lbs, and a truly position-less player who achieved great success at every level and is unique throughout NBA history. Imagine a rookie PG today playing center in G7 of the Finals and putting up 42 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and scoring 9 pts in the final five mins to win the series. ESPN and the Internet would implode. The greatest description I've ever heard of Magic's greatness came from an interview with Wilt Chamberlain, who said that while he had the highest respect for Jerry West, Magic would have dominated West. Of course, Wilt played with West and also scrimmaged with Magic in retirement.
@Drakholm10 ай бұрын
Yeah I'd put Stockton as my top "traditional" (under 6'4 orthodox PGs we've been used to for decades, though it's changing) point guard, but Magic is the best overall. The talent is unmatched. Stockton sure was a workhorse tho.

Show time baby!! My favorite player.I called him the General because of the way he ran teams. Best point guard I’ve ever seen, and flat out the best passer the league has ever seen. And the thing is he didn’t turned the ball over much even with the passing stunts he was pulling off. What a time to be watching basketball with the trifecta of Jordan, Magic, and Bird. There were many others during that era but those three top the list. Kareem, Dr. J, Moses, etc., were there but by the early 80s, the last two ran the show. Today is aging Lebron, Currey, Durant, and two or three foreign players. After that you hear crickets. It’s a weak ass league!!! Rules aim to protect primadonas change the game so much that it is a shadow of what is was. You need only one skill and that’s it. The irony is today there are more injuries, not less. Also, I'm gonna ruffle some feathers, but let's remember that Jordan was in the league several years while Magic and Bird were winning rings. You can debate who the GOAT is all you want, but starting as a rookie 6'9" point guard (and playing center) in the finals and getting 42 over Doctor J! Are you kidding me? Magic’s early retirement due to HIV + MJ (Michael) dominating the 90s kind of made Magic a little bit forgotten. If this conversation was in the 80s, he was widely known as the GOAT, then he fell to number 2 behind MJ, and nobody ever had an argument about this stuff. After LeBron hit his stride, Curry hit his stride, and Kobe died, it seems Magic is somewhat forgotten in these goat discussions. If he didn’t retire early with HIV, he gets AT LEAST 1-2 more NBA championships in my opinion.

I cannot for the life of me understand how some recent top 10 greatest all-time lists have Magic ranked at the bottom of that caliber. He’s a top five greatest all-time player. There was nothing he couldn’t do. If he was more selfish, he could’ve easily average 25 points/game with his height, dribbling, ability, and ability to take it to the basket and take the mid range jumpshot. He had a killer hook shot that nobody could defend. He was not just about passing. He was a true champion. Every level that he played, he ended up winning the championship. He was a superb point guard and court leader
