That was the great thing about games back in those days, if you couldn't get past a level there were no walkthroughs to help you out, you had to stop playing the game.

Certainly looks that way - They're not losing health when getting "hit" by the enemies.

You gotta love how games were like 10 times as difficult and then just ended without fanfare in those days, when you finally beat them xD

True, but gamers back then were hardcore, or as they like to call them, nerds and geeks lol. Today, games have been moderated a lot to appeal to a wider audience, which I'm find with because some of the games in the past went overkill on the difficulty curve.

@@paul1979uk2000 I AM “gamers back then” =.O … before that too … one of my buddies were the hardest though. He’d buy original non-hacked games for c64 on cassette for money he won as a young bicycle racing champion - and he’d sit down, all torn up and bloodied from have 15 bicycles crash on top of him and systematically complete games like the Last Ninja series or Salamander from start to finish … as you can well imagine he was a horrifying board game adversary as well as his will to debate EVERY strike against him was unending … I once decided to give him his own medicine. That game went on for 23 hours before he started developing a bit of a superstitious sweat on his forehead. It put the third player off board games for life after he withered 4 hours in … It was a time of hard, hard games and hard, hard young geeks

Holy moly! A four and a half hour playthrough all the way to the end. I don't think I ever made it past the first level. I really wanted to like the game, the graphics and music were top notch, but the gameplay was a bit repetitive after a while and I got bored of playing some of the more frustrating parts. It's nice to see some different scenery other than the blue-grey bricks of the first level. Well played, and thanks for uploading; I don't think I have time to watch it all without skipping ahead, but you've satisfied my curiosity as to what was beyond level 1 and what happens at the end - even if the ending is a bit underwhelming!

Good evening JJ Sparks. Sorry I have not replied for. a month. Thank you very much. Glad that you love and appreciate my play through. I remember the last time I played this back in the day I got to the Mountain levels and I died. I love the use of Betty Boo - Doing The Do (Remixed). 🎵Betty Boo - Doing the Doo (720p Remastered) 🎵 🎵 kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2bYiIWXeMymY9U 🎵 I think the level design is repetitive in parts like The Cave and there is no way of adjusting the difficulty level. So by the time you finish level 1 the difficulty level increases steeply 🎮🕹🇪🇺.

Which was the case with too many video games ..."jump ,duck & shoot". the whole aim was to look what new stunning (for the time) pixeled surprises were in store. Most buyers didn't finish the game , unless you could've saved the last reached level. "Gods" was my favourite.

Level 1-2 has many routes You can take and 2 paths specifically allow You to get to the start point with all enemies and items reset. It takes much time but gives You much fun as well. I wasn't able to do all teleports, and read somewhere that on this level is bronze chalice hidden.
@sVideoGamer Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for pointing that out. This is the thing with Bitmap Brothers Games. I will play it again to see what you are talking about. When did you last play Magic Pockets?

@@sVideoGamer On real Amiga i wasn't able to beat world 2 (jungle). After years, on WinUAE i have started to notice things i wasn't able before. In world 1 level 2 You start in the place where You can go left, right or down. There is also way up but no shelves to go up. Take the right route. Take down route near the bubble gum machine but don't destroy too much shelves - walking on eggshells You will be able to go down to earn points from mobs, and then be able to go back to bubble gum machine. The goal is to inflate balloon, then fly little down, left and up - there is narrow passage, but You need to destroy some stones to open it. Route to the left You will get cake for 20k points, going left futher and then up and You will get to the start point (the road to up is now opened thanks to blue nastie going from up to down. Here You can take left route. Do this path and You will be able to return to starting point again. You will find that destroyed walls are still destroyed but all items and enemies are back again (cake as well). So You can earn points again. In the next pass I always take the route maximum to the left from cake. And again You will end on starting point. The third and final route is up from bubble machine. There are other paths to finish level but they are final - You can't go back to starting point.

@@sVideoGamer And i have never finished this game, losing all lives somewhere on world 4. Edit: bronze chalice is on level 2 world 1 4th teleport on main area - the different routes I mentioned earlier are treated as different areas, and has different teleports areas. And each time You go back to main area the teleport counter is reset as items and enemies. Don't know if there is 5th teleport.

One of the reasons for me, myself and I still owning my AMIGAs. How can it be possible to make a great game without any background music, only using SFX? Magic Pockets to me is very special. Besides all the Turricans, Magic Pockets is one of my absolutely favourites for the AMIGA for sure. It's a masterpiece. Btw. intro music for Magic Pockets is 'Captain of your ship' by Reparata and the Delrons: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJyZiWiDiLFlsK8

This game was so fucking brilliant and the gameplay so smooth and satisfying. Problem is it would crash on and off between levels when you got far enough, pretty frustrating. Got as far as the open snow level then it became impossible with the crashes …

It never crashed for me - not on real A500, and not on emulator. You had probably damaged floppy disk. Was it original or unnofficial distro?

@@whynottalklikeapirat It could be second fdd as well. That time games were written in pure assembler for given configuration. Mostly for basic A500. Any additional hardware like non standard memory extension could be a non breaking wall for a game which fruited with guru meditation. And the problem could be damaged disc - XCOPY, most wanted soft to copy floppies has a feature to "fix" any error during copy. And it was notorious used. @@ryszardadamus4241 It was just a standard external disc drive not a memory extension. I can’t remember if the game ran off one or more discs. You can play amiga version on WinUAE emulator. Needed kickstart and floppy image You have to look for by yourself.

@@ryszardadamus4241 I had it on my ST 1040 STe, massive slowdown. Jumping of a ladder and throwing 3 knives in slo-mo - bitmap muscles gleaming - did look cool though.
