Thank you David - you saved me $66 so I can purchase another "miracle" that works for me - the Gecko Pro is not for my close up performances. Always a factual review.

David I really like your reviews. I do have one issue though, you never say something is bad. And in the case of the Gecko you omitted one very huge drawback that it has always had and hasn’t been improved since the original. The sound it makes. You know the mac truck “WHOMP” you hear every single time you do the vanish. Unless you are performing in a nightclub where you can’t hear yourself talk, you will get caught. And at the very least get a what the hell was that. Like I said, I enjoy your videos. It just makes it hard to take your advice on a product when you omit clear negative aspects of it. And I’ve never once seen you call something garbage. And we all know there are tons of garbage products produced in the magic community. It makes it seem as though you are instructed what to say by Hocus Pocus, or at the very least expected not to shine any negative views you have. It makes it come across as a commercial not a review.

nobody tells me what to say and I give bad reviews all of the time: like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGLPk4OHpct6mc0

magicorthodoxy the fact that you had to go back to 2017 to find a bad review kind of proves my point don’t you think. And I believe you when you say nobody tells you what to say. I’m a pretty good judge of character and you seem like a very genuine person. That being said it does start to feel like a commercial when you have positive reviews of 99.8% of the things you review. Part of the fun of watching reviews of any product is wether you think a product is good or not. If you rarely say anything is bad it becomes “What glowing review is he going to give this time?” or like I said a commercial. And in my opinion destroys your credibility.

Go back to the review I just did for the Jao Miranda tuck case, I show it side by side with an actual tuck and say that it wouldn't stand it's ground against someone like a magician who knows their stuff. As a rule, I try not to review garbage in the 1st place - so yea I pretty much like everything I get. But I always try to include a negative in every review - even in THIS video, I spend a lot of time saying "you can't do the tricks you see in the trailer in real life." My negatives are there - I'm just not frowning or throwing shade when I do it.

magicorthodoxy I do get where you are coming from and you’re right, you do point out some negatives. Point being the sound this makes means it’s not a workable product. EKat and WPR both have no issue reviewing products that are bad. And as a consumer I appreciate the honesty. My comments were just to provide a perspective from the other side of the screen. And my point remains valid, if you do very few reviews of bad products it’s safe to assume you are going to give a great review. And that what should be a question of “Should I purchase this?” gets changed to “What product is he trying to get me to buy?” Especially when glaring faults are present. Like in this case the sound was never mentioned. As well as your glowing review of Bullet Catch V which was absolute garbage. No mention of the box being made of cardboard and obviously not the one used in the trailer, the chain was so weak it couldn’t hold up the lid without it breaking (even after I repaired the broken links) And the goggles being worse quality then children’s toy goggles that cost less than $20! And the product cost $300! Point being if you omit clear negatives of a product and do very few negative reviews of products it SEEMS as though you aren’t being forthright. And I’ll say it again, I believe you are trying to be and have no ulterior motives. And that’s why I’m bringing it up. I don’t believe you want to be viewed that way. Take it for what it’s worth. It’s your channel obviously. Was only trying to provide perspective.

Topit vs gecko vs raven David which one is good

Hey, David, quick question: I own the Raven, but I find myself having to fiddle with setting up the string/thread around my finger casually during performances.. Does this product also require a hook-up like the raven where you have to loop it around a finger? In the Raven video, he even jokes about the hookup saying, "after you practice for about 20 years, you should get the hang of it," or something like that. Just wanna know if it's the same finger setup? Thanks, Matt

It's not a loop like the raven, but it is something that takes a little "balance."

Make a loop from a thicker fish line! Then it stays a loop. Works great and no one will notice. After 17 years I still have the first loop I made.

Hey guys. I've just decided to start getting back into magic as I've always been a fan since a child. I'm totally new to recording myself but I'd really appreciate it if I could get a little feedback on my latest video? Thanks.
@muppetonmeds5 жыл бұрын
This hate isn't directed towards you since so many magicians are using this term for a category called it can only be done on youtube, call it what it is its a trick you cant perform in front of people and if you can only be done on youtube then you might as well use camera tricks too ok I'm calm now lol anyways nice review.
@magicorthodoxy5 жыл бұрын
yea, but film is certainly a medium for magic - Copperfield did magic "just for TV" so ... it can't be all bad. As some have pointed out - this device can make a "sound" that lends it better for youtube - we all got to make the best choice that works for us.

I have never seen a working magician using a gecko... for non magnetic things, if a pull is used, a classic vernet is usually used.
@magicorthodoxy5 жыл бұрын
I have not seen a worker use it either, but ... it doesn't mean you can't. I think many of us assume, that if it doesn't work for US - then it's garbage, but I think everything has its place.
