Just got my order, and I got totally different decks in the box. The invisible deck is bicycle, and I think the force deck is also a red bicycle instead of blue Cohorts, not sure yet as its sealed and not marked/noted. If the placement is the same it should be.... I'm sure this wont be confusing to a newcomer at all if all the videos reference the different color decks~

@TheDigitalThreat11 ай бұрын
@@magicorthodoxy Yea, the invisible deck is the one from Murphy's magic as it still has their sleeve around the rider back tuck. The only deck from your video that mine included was the marked blue cohorts on the right side. I assume they ran out and just substituted, but definitely makes things a little more confusing. Especially when like in my case get multiple kits at once and have 6 or so new gaff decks at once to learn and differentiate.
@TheDigitalThreat11 ай бұрын
they did toss in an extra Mystery deck (Black Water Ranch) with the overall order, I assume as a form of unspoken compensation or something.

I bought this kit - My favorite part is the invisible deck - I am a beginner and the instruction was fantastic - the filming was great and I learned a lot of information from the videos that gave me insight on how to do better in my magic perfomances. I am a High-School teacher with no interest in going pro, but I love magic as a hobby and want to do it right. I was not a fan of the coins as several had poor/uneven weathering effects (I had bought a set of the regular pirate coins to have as practice coins - they were all evenly. stained.) The decks used are Cartmundi Cohorts out of Belgium - so are commonly used in Europe I believe. I have several Bicycle invisible decks I have gotten - either through a Tannen's Mystery box or from Penguin. I have to say that the Ellusionist deck is the smoothest working Invisible deck I have used. I have bought several of the Cartmundi decks from Ellusionist and I prefer the feel of them to the standard Bicycle deck.

Hi David, great review, very thorough. Thank you so much. I love the how to be a magician set I bought. Found some things in there I use to this day. This was a long review and my attention deficit sometimes makes me miss certain things. When it comes to the gaff coins, do they match the pirate, coin or if not what denominations are they? I would love a full set of gaffed purse coins. Or I actually like their Cosa Nostra coin better. I honestly think the personalized instruction would be worth the cost of the kit even if nothing was included. I remember the days of buying box sets of DVDs for 120 or $150.

Looking at the theme of close up walk around type magic it would be interesting to see another utility like a watch or wallet. That being said I think they made it well rounded as is. Something that I enjoy and dislike about the other magic kits is that some of the props are heavy hitters for performance based shows if not at quality so kids now have a pile of novelty props and a pile of props that if they actually learned them would instantly need to go buy a real set. This kit is ready to go amd that makes it a win amd including the unique coins. Thank you for the review!!
@magicorthodoxy2 жыл бұрын
right, like do we now associate "magic" as mostly card tricks?
@JCMagic2 жыл бұрын
@@magicorthodoxy Even as I browse the interwebs we have card magicians and cardistry at the nost popular. So much so that as far as I understand that most of the time on tiktok if they see cards they scroll because it is too much. Not to say it's bad. I love card stuff. But as a side note why can't Fantasma (magic kits) include an actually deck of cards. I have a phantom deck that does multiple effects but they are cheap cards. No fans or flourishes. Stick together. Just pay for the standard card stock. 😆 Like Chris Ramsey. He made a puzzle box and included a top tier deck. Shin Lim did it. The Cohorts here. Hopefully we are moving towards this as a mainstay.

@magicorthodoxy2 жыл бұрын
weird coins are universal, can be used anywhere in the world - everyone understands "pirate coin" lol
@willswalkingwest72672 жыл бұрын
@@magicorthodoxy Perhaps magicians know "pirate coins"....the fact is, if you're doing an effect for people on the street and pull out strange coins or cards, they just take for granted they are gaffed. Appearing to do magic with everyday "normal" things will always play better. But I will concede, a GOOD magician can create miracles for people regardless if they look gaffed.

Ellusionist lost the respect of the magic community after the back to black campaign so it only makes sense now they are marketing to newbies. They have to as they've burned too many bridges. Still no reason this was a kickstarter though other than to advertise it.
@magicorthodoxy2 жыл бұрын
HMMM, I dont remember back to black
@marketingdept.40462 жыл бұрын
Back to black was a campaign that turned sour and was completely out of our control. We did intend to do something cool, but as we explained we had major website issues turning from one website to shopify's platform. We literally couldn't turn the website back on (SSL certificate issues). We did explain it in a blog post - that it wasn't the "f-you" to customers that some speculated about on forums. But the damage was done. Hopefully in the last 3 years since then, we've overdelivered with our products and won the affection of most buyers back.
@randycape87062 жыл бұрын
@@magicorthodoxy I think the "back to black" was when Ellusionist changed the look of their website....during that time no one knew what was happening because you couldn't access the site so no one knew what was happening going w the company or even their downloads. From what I understand Ellusionist didn't give anyone a headsup that their site would be down..... one day the site wasn't there leaving everyone wondering what the heck is going on..... while it may or may not have been a publicly stunt....it left a back taste for customers.

Sad to see another kit made of beginners and not professionals. This is not a professional kit. Props may be better quality for kids, but this is not a pro kit.

Pros would not buy kits. They would buy individual tricks. If there were a “kit” for pros, the price would be very high.

No, I can envision adults using prop tricks depending on what fits their style and performance. In the words of Richard Ribuffo, “You’re a magician, you have weird stuff.” In other words, nobody should have any problem with what you have as a magician.

So I just got mine in the mail and mine came with a standard Wal-Mart red Bicycle Deck "Not Marked", Bicycle Invisible Deck, and Cohort one way force deck. I was expecting all Cohorts because now I can't switch out my one way force deck because they don't match. My other complaint is the quality and feel of the vanishing headphones. I love the idea and the concept but anyone that has seen or felt real Airpods will know immediately that they are fake. They are significantly lighter and feel very cheep in my opinion.
