Kreskin did a very similar effect on David Letterman years ago. He had two pairs of socks in gift boxes at the end the narrowed it down to 2 gift boxes. They don’t match. Kreskin pulls up his pants and he has those 2 un matching socks on!

Howard runs Holy City Magic here in Charleston SC. We have had several office Christmas parties at his studio. Fantastic magician and a super nice guy to boot! If any of y’all ever come to Charleston please check out one of his shows, you will not be disappointed!

I’ve done this for a couple years now, love it - Bill sold this back then w/o the socks - it was cheaper, socks aren’t cheap! 😂. I had audience member offer me $100 to tell him how it was done, he was blown away. That routine I used work/argyle socks on one side and funny socks on the other (like Chris Funk had them) AND first question was “business or pleasure”...just another idea to use - get it, won’t be disappointed. Sometimes go right into Mike Maiones LEGO trick, Truth or Consequences - awesome one, two punch

Does this effect have a surprise kicker after the reveal like Michel Huot's Socks trick?

This one is an odd trick. Super expensive and you can figure out how to do this one from just watching the two videos online. If it were cheaper, without question I’d get it. At $130? I can’t justify that. Especially since even if I’m wrong about how it is done, I can recreate the effect right now with an Amazon sock purchase. The fact that the tutorial is so short confirms to me that the method is as simple as I assumed. If I created a trick with an easy method that you can figure out and props you can get for $30 (because honestly any socks will work), and I charged $130 for it? That’s ridiculous. To me it’s like I created a trick in which I had four cards, each one an Ace. All of them are face down but one. Which one is face up? After a little back and forth, they say the Ace of Hearts, and I show the Ace of Hearts. Then I show the Ace has a different color back, and the rest are blank. And then I charge $80 for it. Even if that effect was original, the price would be way too high. (Let me know if I need to cut this part. Not trying to reveal the method since I don’t know it officially, but this method gets the same results) I love Abbott’s stuff, and I’ve forked over some cash for Smart ass and Five Card Box, but I’m disappointed by how overpriced this one is.

This looks like a really fun trick! I totally agree on your commentary on the price and what you get. There are a lot of tricks I don’t buy because they are too expensive and don’t seem worth the extra money. I appreciate when you bring this issue up. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this, and mentioning the other performances which I will look up and study! I saw the Bill Abbott performance, and it was around Christmastime (last year). I was in ALDI and saw on sale Christmas socks (really inexpensive in packs of 2). So I made up the trick, and did the performance just before Christmas. Here is the video of my performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5DdgpV_msl_eqs

Hosting video is not free. Especially if you are hosting it on your own website in a high picture quality. Last I checked KZbin was still making a loss for google. I also understand some creators don't say enough and some are unscripted and say to much. But at the end of the day how many of the magicians out there are actual teachers? Also how many effects have you seen come out then someone has improved on it or handled it better than the original creator?

Most creators dont host their own videos - and those that are worried about storage, can host on youtube

@@magicorthodoxy Oh I understand, it is still something to be concidered. I do think that sometimes creators get the short end as they have not gone into details and ideas that others can see. It's part of the reason you need diversity in group work as diffrent backgrounds will bring diffrent experience. Not to mention how they solve problems in one field may never be concidered in another. Sorry been thinking about this for a while. Yes I think some can probably do more or are keeping some things for themselves. But some are just lazy or it's all they have in them in terms of thinking on a effect or at least at the time of release.

Bill is this case is a money grabber! No excuse for using an old video instead of filming a new one, specially considering the money he is asking for.
