There’s been a couple of videos that I’ve seen now that Skullface shows his kids interrupting his work. It’s fairly rare, but it’s something that has really stuck out in my mind. He doesn’t edit it out; but he also doesn’t, from the times I’ve seen, highlight it. To me, it just comes off as an interruption from a source that is far more important than his pieces, his work, or us....and that is just wonderful. As I write this, the video is ending and really accentuates my point. Skullface does take a moment to try to get his child to let him work, but it’s not a bother to him. When the child clearly needs more attention, Skullface chooses the kid over the work and I know this may sound like making a mountain out of a molehill, but there is something extremely heartwarming about it. I don’t really know why it hits me so profoundly, but it makes me smile.

astartespete theres a metallic painted one coming out in normal optimus prime colors :) its the same price as the matt one. I personally love the matt look of the initial release though.

Holy shit, this paint is frikkin' beautiful. I never needed a white Prime...now I do. With the talk of MS doing a Prime trailer...do you see them maybe doing a Magnus Trailer/Armor too?! Just your opinion, Bobby. I think it would work. You can totally fold this dude in half and theoretically put him in something.

I know you have said you hate figures that come later with the paint it should have had in the first place. I'm referring to the upcoming "X" Light of Freedom from Magic Square. I fully understand why it bothers you, if I was big on the paint it would bother me too, but after seeing the paint on this White version I'm wondering if it wasn't so much as a scheme to get more money this time as learning a lesson after their first MP figure. Personally I will judge Magic Square's business practices on that based on their next MP mold. If they paint the first release then I will consider it just a mistake on their part from lack of foresight. Though thinking further if they did do Megatron next I could understand the thought of wanting to have him match the Optimus that was bought from them (unpainted for most people) more than just getting it properly painted. I don't know. Maybe if they do paint the first run of it it would make buying the X Optimus worth it.

I popped out the windows and backpainted them with silver. Might not work for everybody, but I think it's a huge improvement.

I know there is a 0% chance (or less) of it happening, but I ended up buying this hoping for an armor set in the future. I didn't have an MP cab Magnus anyway (never got MP-2 and never bothered with any MP-10 KOs, the only past options).

Rumours of a premium paint version of their Optimus. I am very, very critical of Fanstoys et al doing this. I also don't like people giving their favourite 3P a pass for doing something they criticise in others. When it comes to paint, 3Ps need to look to Gigapower as an example of good practice - their fans know, up front, that both the chrome and the metallic versions are coming and they can get the one they want without being suckered into an extra purchase. So... Magic Square... Pretty much my favourite 3P, these days... Maybe doing the premium paint thing... Maybe, just this once, 'cos for a first release it's hard for us to know exactly what their habits are, maybe I'll pick up a premium Prime. But they reaaaaalllllly need to not make a habit put pf it.

Did yours come with the extra helmet part like the normal red version? Mine came with one but I believe it is identical to the one already on my figure so I'm a bit confused about whether I should have gotten the extra part at all or if I should have gotten a different one.

Great review. Not to nitpick, but you mispronounced "feet" four times in this review. 😉 I heard MS is doing another release of Prime with silver paint on the thighs and hip skirts. Anyone know if that's the extent of the paint they plan on doing? Will the whole figure be painted like this one? Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this.

I love this mold, but it kind of bothers me that they've released a metallic painted version of the original G1 colors. I want to buy the metallic version because it looks amazing, but I don't want to reward Magic Square for leading with their less impressive version first. MS-01 still look amazing without paint, but the metallic finish makes it a little more amazing.

Im not sure why white Optimus always looks so off putting to me....but it does. Strangely I dont mind mostly white gundams so its not necessarily purely a color thing.

A friend of mine got MS-01 and left it with me for a bit. I thought it was great apart from the chalky look, but he decided to get rid and get TE-01. I also had that with me for a few days and I absolutely hated it.
