Some fun background info: "oops all spells" is an actual deck archetype in MTG. The premise of the deck is that you mill cards until you hit a land, but as you don't have lands in your deck, you mill your whole deck ("oops"). You then win in various ways by decking out
@lucjanl12627 ай бұрын
How tf you play cards if you have no lands and thus no mana to play cards? Are all cards 0 mana or do you run something like black lotus or (smth)?
@liorramati2657 ай бұрын
It depends on the format - in some formats you use fast mana (things like lotus petal and simian spirit guide. Similar to lotus but way less busted) to get 4 mana on the one turn you go off, and then since you win that turn, it doesn't matter that you don't have any more mana for later. And in other formats you use MDFCs, double sided cards with a spell on the front side (which is what the mill spells see when they check to see what they milled) and a land on the backside (which you can play from hand, although they all come in to play tapped or cost tons of life) There also used to be a version of the deck (it might still exist? Not sure) that played a very minimal number of lands (maybe even just 1?), and a bunch of spells that let you tutor it for free under specific conditions the deck was constructed to always meet

I loved this. You got to see how each persons preferred game affected their evaluations Stevie, a yugioh player, leans toward cards that offer the decisive moment. Yugioh is a fast game where one misplay or point of interaction can literally make or break the game for you. Things that offer a singular point of "if this high rolls I just win." Makes sense. I know he called it a gambling addiction but I think it makes perfect sense. On the other hand CGB is a mtg player. That game is a lot slower and you're not guaranteed resources. It makes a lot of sense that he'd pick a lot more of the "this thing is consistent. I know I'm getting x things every time I play it." That tracks, the best cards in magic are ones that always perform well even if their ceiling isnt high. Hearthstone is probably more like magic than yugioh so CGB getting the turnaround made a lot of sense to me. That said both guys did great!

Elise Badlands Savior's issue is the same issue that a lot of "board in box" cards historically have: they come out so unbelievably late it doesn't matter since any control deck is clearing you anyway. This is ESPECIALLY true when they are printed in "non-minion focused" classes like Mage/Priest where that Brawl has been burning a hole in the opponent's hand for 6 turns now anyway and you finally gave them a use for it. Elise is only marginally better than the one mage card from Kobolds or whatever that filled a board with 5/5 vanillas if you played big spells and that card was ass 6 or however many years ago for the same reason.

@@winsonlu3559Yes but also no. Draw is a more powerful mechanic in YGO, but effectively every deck has ways to search and/or draw what they need these days so simply "draw a card" isn't quite as strong as what most decks already have. So, I have never played Hearthstone or Magic, and have not played Yu-Gi-Oh in several years, but I will watch a video with these guys every day. I love this video concept and I hope these continue

7:30 In yugioh after 2 more turns, youre taking the match result slip to a judge. 21:34 inventor boom is insane now with Zilliax in highlander, 31/27 with 24 damage on play, then 4 rush minions if something survives is nuts 26:24 Kel'Thuzad was way better then Vectis, so many cheap removal spells exist.

25:32 i think Vectus should get the point. Headmaster has to be like a 8-10 drop to actually do anything impactful, and that highly depends on what your opponent is playing; While Vectus is a 5 mana drop that may be played by himself (as long as you set up deathrattles first), and power-creeps along with any powerful deathrattles released in the future
@videstroyerzi7407 ай бұрын
I mean vectus 100% saw more play, there was 1 niche scenario where ke'thuzad was good and it relied on kel'thuzad either being the biggest minion, or you having the biggest minion. Vectus was nasty in its usage, I remember seeing it get some usage with defile or broomstick to instantly pop the deathrattles.
@DinantZ7 ай бұрын
There were no actual decks that even ran him. Headmaster at least existed in a few niche decks.
@Corvustyx7 ай бұрын
It's so bizarre hearing Vectis got no love, because I would play him in my big demon Warlock and he'd just summon two 5/5's with lifesteal or shuffle more Kanrethad Primes into my deck and just be insane value, meanwhile Kel was 5 mana while most board clears where 3+ mana so earliest you'd have value was turn 8. Even then it entirely depended on your opponent to have a worthwhile minion to steal and even if they did, they would usually be a slower deck with board clears to just immediately remove it. Along with Spellburst being janky, you have to make any preparations *before* Kel hit the board because it'd just pop the spellburst and you'd get nothing, so you couldn't (back then) be on turn 10, coin for 11 mana (or 12 now with audio amplifier), then play Kel and do whatever. He just wasn't good, too slow to matter. Vectis was just better imo, there was no depending on your opponent. If you had good deathrattles, you just ran Vectis.
@DinantZ7 ай бұрын
And how were you able to kill your Enhanced Dreadlord before turn 5 where you would play your Vectis? That's the situation you provided to say its better then Headmaster because he would be played in turn 8.

rarran, but magtheridon as a 8 mana 12/12 is maybe more unplayable than boom? Like imagine a warrior deck where you could discover 16 inventor booms for 3 mana....
@amethonys27987 ай бұрын
Tbf Magtheridon at 8 mana is unplayable. You arguably shouldn't even run the card in your deck because you don't even want to see it off the weapon over a window shopper.
@ssspikesss7 ай бұрын
@@amethonys2798 and u dont... magtheridon is played in less than 3 percent of decks, while boom is played in almost 30 percent of decks

I dont remember the exact decklist, but I remember that Vectus seen play in otk bomb warlock or something like that. He wasn't the main wincon there, but he was a good addition to the deck
@amethonys27987 ай бұрын
Worth noting for Homunculus vs Scrap Imp is the classes they are in. Both are pretty much forced to be in "zoo" style decks and Warlock is probably 90% of the time the objectively better aggro deck compared to Priest (there are outliers like Undead Shadow Priest recently, but that's the 10%).

Vectus was tried over and over and requires help from the opponent to actually be good. When the opponent didn't help you with Vectus, the card was really bad. KT found like 2 good combos, and if you failed, it was still a decent card later in the game.

2:25 the naming convention here is to just go with the name as all the titan forged people are just named after offbrand norse gods
@NoxarBoi7 ай бұрын
Most of them are off-brand names, but Tyr and Sif (and Freya) are just the actual names. But also, most of the other ones had titles like “Odyn, Prime Designate”, or “Loken, Jailer of Yogg-Saron”
@vhaelen3267 ай бұрын
@@NoxarBoi fair point on both things, thoug odyn and loken are alot more impactful then the rest so giving them extra titles also makes sense

I really like the idea, and i found the part where you showed provoke as like a context card super intresting. I would love to see a video with the same kind of format but instead of showing two card to compare. Showing a group of cards that provide context for eachother to compare. For example do you think a deck built around wheel of death, big 15 15 life steal boi, and that location that makes another 15 15 boi is better then a deck built around window shopper magtheradon and the 3 2 glove discounting weapon.

What I want to see is Rarran reacting to Magic cards specifically in the Modern format. I don't know if CGB knows enough about the format to give full context for that though... I could give him a list of cards to show you if he would be interested though!

Vectus was actually used in quite a few decks. Not exactly meta, but if you had any deathrattles you wanted retriggered, Vectus was often worth slotting in. I never saw Kel'Thuzad though. Useless on curve, and still very limited at 10 mana, if you had the ability to play a 5 mana card and cast a removal spell, you'd probably just want a card your deck was built around rather than a pair of bodies.

Between Headmaster and Vectus, I'd say Vectus was the better card solely because I remember him actually seeing play, mainly in Warlock egg decks. I may be misremembering, but I barely even remembered Kel'thuzad, probably only saw him played a handful of times.
