To the folks talking about the parenting style. Japan's society is much safer than the US so its common for kids to walk around alone either to school or running errands. Its definitely much safer than the US today. When I was growing up in VA we would be able to do the same but its not like that anymore

Sorry guys, this isn't anything like Disney movies.. There is a fundamental difference..Disney movies are generally fast and in every second something or else is happening... Whereas Spirited away gives u scenes where there is no dialogues, helping the viewers to calm down, think and get involved into the film (for example the train scene)... It's called 'Ma'.. it's a special feature of Ghibli Movies....

Haku was a river which was filled by human ubern, so his techiquely "dead"/"lost". Thats' why he came to this world.

Still can't get over the parents letting their Chihiro walk behind them. With children and pets... you always want them in front of you. Letting them walk behind you is risky because they're vulnerable to danger via wondering/getting lost, kidnappers, etc.

Japan is a very safe country, so they let their children walk to school on their own when they're in elementary school, it's very common for them to do that as seen in many of their animated movies.

@@holy6704 Chihiro dropped into the river in the past. Haku’s true name is river name. Miyazaki made a spiritual world in this movie. A lot of evidence exist. :D

No he's not, Haku has always been a river spirit, I wish people would stop spreading that theory as if it was the truth. Chihiro is an only child and Haku has been Yubaba's assistant for a very long time. It doesn't make sense.
