I feel like this was one of the most inspirational videos from you Paul: you managed to get great results with an objectively mediocre deck and an at best mediocre draft. I was raging super hard over the weekend blaming the RNG and the shuffler, but this video proves that skill is what matters, and also motivates me to play better.

Morning Paul - loving the Foundations content. You’ve pushed me to have bigger goals in magic, like playing in the Arena Qualifiers and RCQs. Thanks for being an awesome member of the community!
@jackATTACK550013 сағат бұрын
Hey Paul. I only started playing Magic half way through this year and only started drafting in Bloomburrow which is also when I found your channel. I was able to hit Diamond in Duskmourn and just hit mythic in limited today for the first time in any format. Don't have many people to tell that know what mythic is so I figured I'd share here lol. Thanks for the videos, they helped a lot!

Aegis turtle would have been an interesting one-drop, given your frustration finding early drops. It's a good early game wall, that takes +1/+1 counters well

Super tough draft. I think Grow From the Ashes was pretty overlooked here. It's not a tempo positive play, but when your curve is this high I think the card shines quite a bit. Mainly think it's odd to not even mention the card when you saw 3 copies. Could've helped you splash too to shore up how weak the deck ended up being.
@haumph16 сағат бұрын
I haven't liked grow from the ashes very much in general but could see the case to play it here.

I've liked Shivan Dragon as a top-end for RG midrange. If you can empty the opponent's hand of removal on your 3 and 4 drops, it's a solid finisher.

Definitely felt like going for vivien instead of face was the mistake. Between the bushwhack and uncharted voyage you had enough interaction to force through a kill even if they spent viviens turn killing the spectral sailor.

Feels like theres no middle-ground power level. You either open bombs or just weak commons and uncommons. All that only to have top deck wars and mana screw 90% of the games. I miss Duskmourn.

I’ve been taking Strix Lookout higher than you. I think you’re mostly correct in it being replaceable, but a 1/2 vigilance has been effective in longer games in a set that I perceive as having a lot of 1/1 creatures.

with the exception of a handful of drafts, i have felt the same drafting this set. it’s been challenging finding clear signals which i wonder if it’s just due to an underpowered set but nonetheless still a bit frustrating.

Cheon, please tell me if you read this: how often do you retire drafts when your draft is suboptimal? I'm feeling extremely demoralized about how often i run into just unbeatable draft decks in premier draft and I want some perspective on how often a streamer/mythic player retires bad drafts.

the reson why you "get bad draws when 6-0" is because when you get them at 1-1 you won't bat an eye. the human mind can be very cruel sometimes (i know you know that, i'm saying that tou the viewers)

paused on the muldrotha pick - you can absolutely go UG splash B for Muldrotha. With evolving wilds and bushwack (+micromancer) you were on track for a safe splash. muldrotha is pretty insane --especially if you also have evolving wilds + tatyova
@GoreDough9216 сағат бұрын
@@adaml8827 def not. I mean thats uber forcing with blinds but if you stick to your P1P1 cause "I wna play this card" that is most definitely forcing as well. Not saying Paul did that here
@GoreDough9216 сағат бұрын
@@iGotUrEspada One million percent my thought process too. Also kinda hurts how averse he is to the Aegis Turtle. That thing will HODL while you get all your 4+ CMC cards on the board. It looks dopey but mannn, that thing sucks to see as an aggressive deck. Gets around Shock, Stab, and quite a few early interactions.

59:11 "i'M cALlInG yOu AlL cLoWnS" That is EXACTLY how and why the shuffler is rigged. It keeps players in the game longer than they need to be, so that they are on average more likely to hit that juicy store button. Apart from also triggering gambler mental issues of "man i was SO CLOSE - when i spend the next 20 bucks on gems i am FOR SURE getting that trophy". If you knew what hypergerometric probability distribution is, you would see how many 1% and 0.1% "completely balanced" draws you get in 10 games. It's like 2 to 3. Btw you get rigged once you hit 9 daily wins. NOT TEN (out of 15) - NINE. So sneaky lmao. This is incredibly obvious and common practice in SO MANY free to play games. But little Paul is too afraid to see the world for what it is and makes fun of people who are based enought to do what he would never be able to. sad life

You are a clown
@MaximilianKalimon10 сағат бұрын
@@haumphGiven that... 1) you had to force yourself to stop going on with your rant 2) you had to clarify that "it happens to everyone roughly at the same rate" at the end of the match (although that doesn't disprove my claim, since the shuffler algorithm is the same for everyone. be clearer with what you mean - or is this a hidden message?) 3) most importantly, you were employed by Wizards at some point ... I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and not assume that you are stupid and consider the possibility of you knowing what's going on. In that case you'd simply be a spineless shrimp and not some naive darling. PS: I'd be careful who you call a clown. I'm not the guy whose entire "benefit to humanity" is playing ultimately forgettable childrens card game matches while calling yourself an entertainer (which is exactly what a clown is), and having to beg for money all the time. I am a professional programmer who regularly has to implement "brilliant" ideas from my superiors who studied business and marketing. I am grounded in the real world and am talking about a subject which I have knowledge of. You, in your position, talking to me in this kind of dismissive manner is incredibly embarrassing. If you know NOTHING, at least keep your mout shut when it comes to subjects like this. Stop ASSUMING everything's clean (even though, again, Wizards has repeatedly been forced into admitting that their shuffler is rigged, so you're being actively ignorant at this point) and forcing your belief onto others, ridiculing those who think otherwise, most often based on evidence and not based of hopes and dreams. If you know things, be professional and adhere to your contracts and stop gaslighting - that's even worse. Either is harmful, but that would be much worse.
