Eric is ALWAYS a pleasure to watch. When was this made? I haven't watched a TV in over 8yrs-so have no idea. Following FU videos on YT, but don't catch every single one there either, so I'm lost. But this was THE best video I've ever seen on the internet for magic ever, if you ask me. Such art, when it's respectfully done that way. Putting it on FU(?), brilliant. 😊 Thanks Jason! You never fail to give us the best of the best 😜🙌👍.

You also have to appreciate the real internal cohesion and logic of the routine. It explains the logic and stays within that whole logic in the entire trick. So often, even story-based routines have logic break down at least some places. The cohesion is really good!

I'd like to see more magician interviews. They don't have to be long, just like a behind the scenes chat on the trick they performed on Fool Us or their inspirations or anything really. Doesn't have to be long. Especially the European Magicians which we may not be as familiar with. Once the world turns back to "normal" you could even do a travel vlog to meet and/or see some of their full shows. Pick the ones that are accessible and interest you, it doesn't just have to be the winners.

Penn had mentioned before in a previous season, that for slight of hand acts, if he and/or Teller lose track of the slights, even if they have an idea how they're done, that they'll likely say they were fooled by the magician.
@chenghsin86193 жыл бұрын
I think he has done his ribbon act on live tv so many times! And P&T are still fooled. Goes to show how good he is!
@Viewer131283 жыл бұрын
i don't think they were fooled because they said they studied it intensely, which means they must have seen the reveals on google and youtube at minimum. they would piece everything together themselves. there is no way youtubers can replicate eric's act, and penn and teller still has no clue after studying it intensely. imo, they pretended to be fooled to give him the trophy. i remember there was another magician who used a lot of tricks in one performance, and penn and teller didn't give him the trophy cause they said he was just mashing things together hoping they'd miss something. so if they know the general idea, they don't give the fool us trophy. for eric chien, they clearly wanted to give him the trophy, so they pretended there was one thing that fooled them.

I tried really hard to figure out the tricks, they are really amazing. I think he used some threads here and there, for example when he made the things diappear at the end. And at 7:54 it looks like there are fixated coins in the box and not the loose ones he pretended to put in there right before. But other than that, even in HD it's still really hard to make out the majority of the stuff, especially the handtricks, he performs them so smooth, it's really facinating to watch

I think people forget that, by receiving a trophy, they also go to Vegas to perform on stage. Of course he gets a trophy, not just because he is amazing or fooled them, but because he will call in an audience when he gets there. Penn and Teller are able to do these things, help growing magicians, because they can afford to. They are amazing guys, but retirement is knocking, can't tell me they aren't looking for replacements, so they can enjoy what they have achieved and hand things over slowly.

Personally, I don't like magic tricks that relies on gimmicks and stuff that do half of the trick. I favor magic tricks that rely on slight of hand and that requires You hours and hours of practice. Despite that, this performance is one of the absolute most enjoyable magic performances I've seen in a long long time. Eric Chien is truly a champion and I've seen his tricks over and over again and are still amazed every time.

They likely gave him the trophy cause they didnt want to pass up the chance of him performing in Vegas with them.
@MikkoRantalainen3 жыл бұрын
Another reason could be that Penn and Teller seem be keep the bar at "is there any part of this trick that we couldn't redo without a meaningful difference"? If there's 5 hard tricks in a performance and Penn and Teller immediately know 4 of those, they're fooled by their definition. As Jason said, this performance is bombarding trick after trick.

I saw a video where the guy says he thinks Eric uses gimmick black cards. That was a feasible explanation when the resolution was low, but in this vid you can see patterns on the table top. Doesn't seem like a card could exactly duplicate the patterns and not create any sense of movement in the pattern. Amazing magician. I am more impressed by him than Shin Lim and Shin is great in his own right!
