In the book, Dumbledore asked calmly to Harry if he put his name in the Goblet and the movie adaptation of that line quickly became a big meme. Cedric’s dad reaction to his son being dead felt so raw and real. Always a stand out scene to me in this film

that scene always makes my eyes water because I've witness a similar reaction from a parent losing their child.. its almost too real for the movie (very well acted from Jeff Rawle; fun fact, he voiced a death eater in one of the HP video games)

Sigh...it wouldnt be a GOF reaction without someone pointing out the "Dumbledore asked calmly" thing...however...IMO, it actually makes more sense for him to be agitated with Harry at that moment, given what he knows. Him being calm about it in the books always seemed a bit weird to me, once the whole story has unfolded...

I have always thought he did it calmly in the book because he knew harry didn’t put his name in it. Personally I don’t mind either way they portrayed dumbledore asking. The part I always thought was why couldn’t they say he wasn’t allowed to back out? I know they say it is a binding magical contract, however I view it as the person it should have taken was the person who actually put the name in. I look at it as the person who put it in had it do it. Which meant harry could back out but Barry crouch jr would have had to participate. Just how I always thought it should of occurred although to be fair we wouldn’t have a book or movie if that happened

Dear ladies, Barty Crouch's backstory in the book is far more complex. Also, if you wonder what happened in the graveyard when the wands connected, Dumbledore mentions "Priori Incantatem" but he doesn't explain. When two wands who share the same core - as is the case of Harry's and Voldemort's wands - are forced to battle, they will refuse, instead they will connect and one of them will force the other to regurgitate the last spells that it had performed in reverse order. That's why the ghost-like figures of Voldemort's last victims reappeared. And in case you wonder why did Harry's wand win and not Voldemort's, it is because of Harry's courage. He accepted that he might die, and that is something that Voldemort was never able to do. He fears death more than anything. As I told you before, character and intentions matter in magic, maybe even more than sheer magical power. Another interesting thing is that at this point Voldemort doesn't know that their wands share the same core, so he has no idea what happened, he is really scared, he thinks that Harry escaped due to some secret superior skill.

Great explanation. Me and my husband were always wondering why their wands did what they did. I havent gotten that far into the book series yet as i was not fortunate to have been able to read them before seeing the movies. Im on prisoner of azkaban right now and i cannot wait to get to goblet of fire. The 3rd 4th and 6th movies are my favorite ones deathly hallows both parts are just painful but still on the ones i do enjoy.

“I couldn’t leave him! Not there!” Man that line broke me, Cedric’s death stayed with and haunted Harry for the rest of his life Cedric Diggory’s death was one of the saddest deaths in the series and in film. It marked the turning point of the franchise and told the audience things are going to get darker from here

Voldemort’s resurrection and fight with Harry is one of my all time favorite scenes in movie history. We go from the excitement of finishing the Tri-Wizard tournament, to the immediate horror of seeing the most powerful dark wizard of all time in his prime. Ralph Fiennes actually came up with all of the movements he did during his resurrection on his own. To me it looked like a snake after just shedding his old skin. Look up interviews of him talking about it. He absolutely loved playing this character.

I don't care how many times I see this movie. The ritual to restore Voldemort, and seeing him rise out of the cauldron will always simultaneously send shivers racing up AND down my spine and make me nauseous. Trivia: They got the movie appearance of Voldemort almost identical to the book. There is one missing detail: in the book, Voldemort is described as having blood-red eyes with a slit-like pupil. It is understandable why they didn't use creature contact lenses of Ralph Fiennes in the movie adaptations since it would eliminate the realness of Voldemort's threatening presence. The arachnid the imposter Mad-Eye Moody was demonstrating The 3 Unforgivable Curses on was a whip scorpion. As someone who was sorted into Hufflepuff on The Wizarding World website, Cedric Diggory's death hit hard. Especially seeing Amos run onto the quidditch pitch and hearing him shout "That's my son!! That's my boy!!" Backstory: Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus Curse's usage because his parents were tortured into insanity with it.

Thanks for the fun reaction girls. Two things I should mention: first, while none of the earlier HP movies did their book equivalent justice, this was the first one I felt should have been split into two movies. There are so many details that were completely dropped off from the story, such as from the Quidditch World Cup and the maze in the Triwizard tournament. So after you're done watching the series, I definitely recommend reading the books. Second, the phrase of the killing curse "avada kedavra" is an actual phrase from Aramaic language which means "I will destroy as I speak". The similarity with the more famous "abra cadabra" may be just a coincidence.
@Chonstantin
@Chonstantin Жыл бұрын
ABRACADABRA is a real magical word. It means ,,I will create as I speak" In old times, people used to make amulets with this word. You can find it in the Dictionary of Freemasonry. It is used by freemasons (satanists) in rituals.
@Ideophagous
@Ideophagous Жыл бұрын
@@Chonstantin I didn't say it wasn't a magical word. I simply said that "avada kedavra" is not a twist on or modification of "abra cadabra" as I saw some people claim. Thanks for the extra information though.

That poor house keeper really bit more than he could chew in the beginning of the movie. The scene pays off not only by giving us a first look at Barty Crouch Jr. but the house keeper himself appears when Harry and Voldemort's wands connect. Your excitement when the Bulgarian team shows up was epic ❤ The introduction of the two other schools was epic! Flying carriage and some Davy Jones Flying Dutchman ship - can't ask for more than that! Filch was a wild animal the entire movie, kept messing cannon shots every single time 😂 Moody showing the students the 3 Unforgivable Curses was such a powerful scene, with each of them making such a lasting impact on the class, especially Neville. Fred and George - we don't get enough scenes with those two clowns, they're always cracking you up. The moment Harry's name was announced, you could see the envy and distrust on everyone's face - people turned so quickly against him, including Ron. Even though we didn't get to see too much of Sirius this movie, the info he provides and the advice - it certainly helps Harry. Leave it to Hagrid to bring Harry as a third wheel to his clandestine date with his lady 😂Nobody should go into the Dark Forest with that guy, he's a menace! Draco as a ferret - that was one lovely, incredibly hilarious scene! Harry telling Cedric about the dragons - another scene that pays off later, with Cedric helping Harry crack the egg enigma - it also gives off a very beautiful message to the audience - kindness pays off. I love how extra Snape is, every single time 😂Ron also stepped up big time this movie, almost all scenes with him have you laughing out loud. @22:45 - Magy with her Redbull and Laura with her "apple juice" 😂 you girls embracing the memes! Ron deserved Hermione going off on him, he ignored her the entire time right up until the very last moment when he needed a date. Moaning Myrtle needs to chill, that ghost is too horny! Harry did the honorable thing once again, during the second trial, saving both Fleur's sister and Ron. Dumbledore mentioning it and giving points in accordance was a nice touch. Barty Crouch Jr. being Voldemort's greatest supporter is both heartbreaking and ironic - just goes to show that even though his father was such a stickler for rules, children can always surprise, in the worst ways. During the maze trial, Viktor was under the Imperius Curse - he was compelled to eliminate all of Harry's competition to ensure Harry would touch the Cup and be transported to Voldemort, that's why Viktor ignored Harry and went for Cedric, after getting rid of Fleur. The fact that he had that white film over his eyes was just extra, to ensure the audience would figure out he is under control. A ritual, rather than a potion - while barbaric, it worked to great effect, Voldemort regained his body and it even got better, since he has Harry's blood flowing through his veins now, allowing him to touch Harry, his mother's protection nullified. His nose - the aesthetic choices - they are very much deliberate - making him look more like a snake, more sinister, to inspire fear more easily. The scene where they return is heartbreaking - everyone celebrates while Harry is in so much distress, clinging to Cedric's corpse. His father's screams just give you chills. As despicable as he is, Barty Crouch Jr. had a brilliant plan, which he executed perfectly. You said it best, Magy, this movie really was a rollercoaster of emotions and from now on, it keeps getting more and more intense. Your post reaction talk was really good and the reaction itself - epic! Thank you ❤

Fun fact about the Death Eaters present at the Graveyard: Voldemort names them Lucius Malfoy(Draco’s father), Crabbe and Goyle(the fathers of Draco’s friends) and Walden Macnair(the executioner who killed Buckbeak last book). In the book, the other three Death Eaters are Narcissa Malfoy(Draco’s mother), Nott(the father of one of Harry’s Slytherin classmates) and Avery(later books show his father was one of Voldemorts first followers)

Don't think so: He'd been messing with dark magic for years...decades not to mention creating the horcruxes. In the Half-Blood Prince, one of the memories was about Voldemort coming to Hogwarts for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position and Dumbledore became headmaster somewhere in btwn Voldy graduating. Harry remarked how he lost some of his handsome features we'd seen when he was a kid and a teen by this point. Some of that smooth snake-ish skin he has now, was showing at that time.

Now that you know the Avada Kedavra spell, a fun fact: in movie 2 (Chamber of Secrets), at the end, when Lucius Malfoy is beginning to curse Harry for freeing his house elf Dobby, he begins to say the line, "Avada-" before getting cut off. So he was canonically in the middle of trying to KILL Harry Potter right beyond the headmaster's office. But, as it happens, the actor that played the role reported in interviews that he had improvised several of his lines/actions during that ending sequence; when it came to casting the spell, he had apparently just flipped open a book and chosen one of the first spells he came across in the text which JUST SO HAPPENED to have been the "Avada Kedavra" curse from a much later book.

I watched all the movies in the theater. And already read the first and almost the second book before the first trailers of the Philosopher Stone went out. Unrelated but I'll say millennials and zennials Potterheads are the luckiest mf alive like myself. Especially if you are also a Tolkien fan. Why? Because around that era the LOTR Peter Jackson's adaptations were coming out. Also The Matrix sequels... The turn of the century was golden for the cinephiles. I also watched LOTR The Fellowship when it came out opening night. Never gonna forget that night. I wasn't a book fan yet but my mom bought the book months before the film came out so she was prepared and converted. I borrowed her book after watching that once upon a lifetime masterpiece. My mom was the one that introduced me to HP books (I'll be grateful as that made me the literature rat that i'm today, and also it shape me into the person i'm today and made a big mark in my development too as an autistic boy and teen) and she also intrdouced my cousin and a childhood friend to the saga. Then along came their siblings and my little cousin. My mom was like an scout leader marching us to the mall on our way to the movie theater. We were like 8 little guys walking behind my mom. Endearing and fun times. I was a lucky one. Goddammit time really flies...

from this one onward, the books got much longer than the first 3, so it was a lot harder for the filmmakers to fit in everything, which means a lot of great moments or extra information gets cut from the movie. The World Cup final had a chapter dedicated to the match, while Barty Crouch Jr's story explains how he escaped Azkaban, found Voldemort, went undercover as Moody and killed his father etc. I would definitely recommend reading the books at some point as they expand the world so much more

Following on from my notes in the comments of HP3, this is where we first start to see the errors in adaptation the previous film set a precedent for start to cascade. Missing from the film, but what would have been just minutes of screen time at most to incorporate, include such things as: Barty Crouch Snr in the woods. More detail on the Quidditch world cup, and its knock on effects on the plans of the Weasley twins and such like. Neville's background, and why the Cruciatus curse was so traumatic for him. Wormtail's replacement hand. These missing items all play into plot points in later books, and them being absent from this film makes the overall story of the following ones weaker as a result as the scripts get more and more cracks they need to paper over.

This is Not a spoiler. In the book "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Dumbledore explained to Harry that Priori Incantatem is what happened when their two wands with matching wand core connected. If you recall from the very first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Philosopher's Stone when Harry got his wand Mr. Olivander said that the phoenix feather in Harry's wand had a matching feather in another wand that came from the same exact phoenix. The person that has the other feather in his wand is Voldemort. Harry found out in the book version of Goblet of Fire that the phoenix was Dumbledore's bird, Fawks. Because Harry and Voldemort has matching wand cores it means the wands are equal in power and relation. The wands really are brothers. As Harry's wand began to slowly beat Voldemort's wand it caused the Piori Incantatem spell to happen. That means the last few spells that a wand made reveals itself. So in this case not only did the last few murders that Voldemort's wand made expose itself to everyone in the graveyard, in the book version it also showed Wormtail's new silvery hand first as well. 🪄💥⚡️🪄

Great video, I Was excited to see this as I was with three movies before and same as I am for the rest. For situation about Barty Crouch and his death. His son murdered him not for revenge, but cuz Barty Sr. realised that's his son due to that tongue flicking.

You have watch one of the more celebre meme of Harry Potter's movies : In the book : "Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?” Dumbledore asked calmly. In the movie : "DID YOU FUCKING PUT YOUR FUKING NAME INTO THE FICKING GOBLET OF FIRE ??!!!" Screams Dumbledore as he attacks Harry kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnnVk62ZoMhqrbc

In the book Barty jr. was never present at the beginning, when the housekeeper saw Voldy and Vormtail. And it is not shown or told that he cast the dark mark at the World Cup, until he himself revealsbit after the Tri-Wizard Tournament. So the plot with Barty Sr. and Jr. is much more suspenseful in the book.

It was this movie where it was no longer a family friendly movie series. Cedric getting killed and his father’s reaction is one of the hardest scenes in the series. Your reactions to this movie are 💯 my favorite. I appreciate you ladies watching these movies, please keep going ❤️

This is the only movie where Hufflepuffs have a House representative (Cedric) Hufflepuff was the most inclusive among the four houses, Helga Hufflepuff wants inclusivity in her House. Hufflepuffs valued hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play which Cedric did portray well in this movie 💛 When Harry tipped him about the dragon he asked if Fleur and Krum knew about it too (fair play) and he also tipped Harry about the task in the black lake with the egg. And in Book 3 (Prisoner of Azkaban) He's playing in the Hufflepuff quidditch team against Gryffindor, he asked for a rematch when Harry fell off his broom because of the Dementors (fair-play) andddd When they both reached the portkey in the maze he asked Harry to just take the cup because Harry saved him from the maze at the end of the movie💛 We also have Nymphadora Tonks which is a Metamorphmagus......After giving birth to his son Teddy with Remus Lupin....she fought in the battle of Hogwarts after giving birth just shows how she puts others first before herself 💛 AND DONT GET ME STARTED WITH NEWT SCAMAMDER... A MAGIZOOLOGIST, FEATURED IN THE CHOCOLATE FROG CARDS, RECEIVED ORDER OF MERLIN, WROTE FANTASTIC BEAST AND WHERE TO FIND THEM 🤩 FOUGHT GRINDELWALD TOO 😭 Hufflepuffs likes to put other peoples needs first before them💛 idk why some people are hating our House and making fun of us being sorted in Hufflepuff Imao I LOVE MY HOUSE 🦡 HUFFLEPUFF FOR LIFEEEEE~

You should read the books if you have not at this point. A bunch of the stuff you mentioned like about his father abd how he got out of askaban are explained. It also gives a lot more back story on Neville and why the crucia curse disturbed him. The wands connecting the stuff with rita skeeter etc all have a lot more depths and explanation The maze is also a bit different and there is a lot more with hagrid being the care of magical creatures teacher and showing things like nifflers and the blast end skeets

Just something to make you see Hogwarts in a different light ;) This is a British Boarding School, with the twist of it being all about magic. So much of the character of the movie, the school, the teaching methods, the average student experiences etc all come from boarding schools. They are guardians of tradition. They don't change with the times, until they're dragged there. So here we have a High School (aged 11 to 18) of boys and girls, who each have their own bathrooms, and sleeping rooms. The stairs leading from each Common Room to the girls bedroom is enchanted. Any boy who tries to go up the spiral staircase, the stairs retract, turning it into a slide, all the way back down. Yet, in this movie we have the Prefects Bathroom. It's HUGE. There's only ONE Prefect per House. That's it. One single student. AFAIK it's pretty much always a one-year role for a student in their final year. That means there's a HUGE bathroom, featuring a SWIMMING POOL sized communal bath, for a total of FOUR students. These four may hardly even SEE each other over the school year. They're all in their final years after all. That bathroom is the type of thing you'd expect in a swingers club. It's clearly not restricted to JUST Prefects, neither Cedric or Harry would have gotten in. It's a secret room available to a bunch of horny teenagers, on tap, whenever they like, and aside from the separate bedrooms, and bathrooms, they're LIVING with each other. No need to sneak out.
