Sadly, the movie does not mention why Lupin knows how to use the Marauders Map, and why he is sure it never lies. He and his friends, Harry's father, Sirius, and Peter Pettegrew, were those who invented it. All of them, together with Harry's father were animagus. Their names are entitled on the map: Moony: prof. Lupin, because he turned into a werewolf, Wormtail: Peter Pettigrew, he turned into a rat, Padfoot: Sirius Black, turned into a black dog, and Prongs is James Potter, turned into a stag.

Yep, the movie condenses and omits a lot of things. Like the reason why the 3 learned to be illegal animaguses in the first place as kids was to protect Remus Lupin and keep him company during the "day of the month". Animagus are also not that common and extremely diffcult to learn even for proficient adult wizards, so it shows they Harry's dad and his friends really cared for one another.

I’m sure someone mentioned this but: With Sirius and James transforming into such large animals, a dog and stag respectively, they were able to keep a werewolf in check. Lupin also says in the book that he was….’calmer’ when he was with them, even when transformed. Finally it seems, least the books say so, that a werewolf is only a danger to ‘humans.’ So with the other three members of the marauders transformed, they didn’t have to worry about being bitten by Lupin. Each month they’d end up wondering the grounds of Hogwarts, etc. That’s what contributed to them making the map.

Prisoner of Azkaban has to be one of my favorite Harry Potter movies. As each movie you both see for Harry Potter, the darker the theme gets as time goes and more adult themed. That’s something I actually love about these movies because they start off as children and then hen there’re adults, they need to deal with adult things. The movies get better as each one goes

One of the things that was left out of the movie but was in The Prisoner of Azkaban novel is that James Potter (Harry's father), Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were the original inventors of The Marauders Map. That is the reason why Professor Lupin knew how to use it. When the original Marauders were students in Hogwarts they were all best friends. When James, Sirius and Peter found out that Remus is a werewolf they decided to become Animagus (wizards that can willfully magically turn into an animal just like Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat) because werewolves don't attack other animals and Remus' friends didn't want him to be alone during the full moon period. This is why the map reveals the weird names when you use the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" spell. They were the nicknames of the Marauders. Mooney is Remus Lupin because he is a werewolf. Padfoot is Sirius Black because his animagus form is a dog. Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew because his animagus form is a rat. And James Potter is Prongs because his animagus form is a stag. Dumbledore knew about Remus' condition and how Remus became a werewolf when he was only a very small child. So he had the Womping Willow tree planted and had a tunnel put in so that Remus can hide in the Shrieking Shack during the full moon cycle. 🌜🌕🌛🐺🐶🦌🐀🪄🌳🏚

Don’t know if you noticed, but Dumbledore is played by a different actor starting with this movie; the actor from the first two movies, Richard Harris, died after filming the second movie so he was replaced by Michael Gambon for the remaining six movies. Michael Gambon actually just died this past year, three months ago 😢 and over twelve years after the release of the very last movie.

I was watching this epic cinematic picture of Harry Potter few days ago on tv and took me back to those days then i was watching this movie and reading the book for the first time , it's so good to see that Harry after long time being alone , meeting his another family member , his godfather Sirius Black , also Harry meets the real traitor who betrayed to Lord Voldermort his parents and Sirius Black , another intense moment in this movie is then professor Treloni while talking in a possesed voice mentions , that dark lord will rise again. Aunt Marge got what was coming to her and then some! It's no wonder Harry decided to get away from them after that. Looking back at it, Sirius always looked after Harry, even at the start of the movie, when he ran away from home, he was the dog Harry saw right before the Night Bus found him. It was already beyond sus, how the Minister of Magic treated him, the not so subtle warning. Mister Weasley just confirmed to Harry what he already knew deep down, Sirius was after him. The introduction of the Dementors - the effect they have on Harry in particular - talk about nightmare fuel! Professor Lupin more than proved himself in that scene alone. Professor Trelawney, while looking completely goofy, really managed to scare the crap out of everyone with her premonition. Buckbeak! What a beautiful creature and Hagrid's style of teaching is just 😂let's make everything up as we go! Malfoy talking shit to Buckbeak - the very definition of fuck around and find out Magy, well done, figured out Lupin's identity right after the scene with the moon was shown! Lupin reminiscing about Harry's parents was such a beautiful scene, it shows not just how good they were even as adolescents but also just what good friends they were. Not like Quiditch was dangerous as a game during optimal weather conditions but hey, why not play it during a freakin thunderstorm, with the cute Dementors suckin up everyone who goes too high up in the air - Hogwarts really wants to thin the number of their students 😂 Draco gets funnier and funnier with each movie, whenever he insults someone you just start laughing, he's way too extra, just like Snape and his drama queen behaviour and way of talking. It's heartbreaking, seeing how much it hurt Hagrid when they sentenced Buckbeak to death. Honestly it's a miracle Hermione didn't slap Trelawney after that comment, the lady screams "scam" when she's on her normal zany behaviour but when she decides to make clever comments, it's just insulting. Hermione punching Draco is probably one of the most satisfying moments in the Harry Potter series, dude's been asking for it since he was first introduced in the first movie. The plot twist really got you, huh? You didn't expect the "Spectre" to attack Ron and drag him away, instead of Harry. After that scene, it's just a series of crazy plot twists, one after the other. Lupin turns out to be friends with Sirius, Ron's rat is a bitch ass rat in person too, turning out to be the real traitor who caused James' and Lilly's deaths, the entire time travelling sequence and subsequent saving of both Sirius and Buckbeak. Sirius asking Harry to come live with him once his name is cleared is such a heartwarming moment. After that, Harry realizing he saved himself with the Patronus - you know the memory he thought of to conjure such a potent Patronus must've been incredibly happy. Good catch Magy, noticing how the first thing Snape did was to put himself between the trio and Lupin, protecting them from the werewolf's attack. All in all, things ended in a beautiful way this movie, the only real unfortunate moments being Peter escaping and Professor Lupin resigning because of his...wolfish outburst. Thank you for the beautiful reaction, it was a pleasure watchin you enjoy this movie so much ❤

Info: At the end of the movie when Lupin is packing up to leave, he states his reason for resigning before end of the year is that he doesn't want trouble for Dumbledore. Someone let out "the secret of his condition" (that he's a werewolf) & he knows that many parents will object to him teaching their kids. They won't care what kind of person he really is, he could infect a student &/or teach them sympathy for werewolves. Rowling deliberately wrote about werewolves & how it's caused by a transmissable disease as a comparison to how in the real world people were treating those with HIV.

So this installment is my daughter's favorite, and now it is mine. I totally enjoyed the plot with its twists along the way. You guys always make it so much fun to watch. The travelling back in time actually made me think of Loki a bit, but that discussion for another time. Good job remembering the "Godfather" word you wanted. So, in the books, in the Shrieking Shack, its explained the Marauders Story by Remus and Sirius. Remus was biten by a werewolf, the same that later in movies, as a child. Therefore he feared that he was not gonna be admited in Hogwarts cuz of rejection fear and hate of wizards to werewolves. But "fortunately, Dumbledore was the headmaster already" he fastly created a plan. Once a month Remus was taken to the S.S. for Dumbledore and madame pumfrey throught THE WHOMPING WILLOW (that was planted precisely for that purpose) so he could transform into wolf into the house with no harming for the students. A few months later actually, James and Sirius (two of the most brilliant students) noticed that he casually dissapeared every full moon, and opposite of his fear that they were gonna reject him, they asked like "hey dude, are u a werewolve?-... yes...- man... THATS AMAZING" AND LITERALLY was the starting of the friendship. They literally passed the next 3 years i think solving how to became animagus, in order to be with him on his "moony" nights. (werewolves are lethal to humans but can be harmless or more peacefull for other animals). Thats the creation of the Marauders map, they literally explored as animagus, the entire castle with all his misteries that they could've find. And nope, Remus was never in love with Lily, but she was the first person besides Sirius and James who didnt watch him as a weirdo, that treated him kindly, they had a relation of confidence, lets say like Neville with Hermone or with Ginny. He was the one that met Lily with James and lately they fell in love. It's totally a BEAUTIFUL story that i HATE wasnt shown in the movies. It only takes 5 minutes to tell for God sake. And fun fack. The sugar skull and the Statuete of Eagle eating a snake, is a good reference to mexican culture. Sugar skull is a tipical candy that is eaten on Day of the death ( november 1) and well eagle eating a snake is the mexican simbol on the national flag. Since the director Alsonso Cuaron, is mexican.

A thing to remember is that Snapes _really_ hated James & Sirius. We find out later why. That's why he's so antagonistic to Harry. As has been said a thousand times, he looks exactly like his father, except he has his mother's eyes. Snapes looks at Harry and sees James.

One thing the movie didnt explain is why it is right up untill the end Lupin is only feral at the end of the movie. Severus was brewing a potion for him that prevented Lupin from losing himself when he transformed. In the school year he would transform and then just curn up in his office, thanks to snapes potions.

I was bummed to find out that this was the last Harry Potter movie that John Williams would compose the music. The next one however was done by an excellent composer (Patrick Doyle) who worked a lot with the actor who did Professor Lockhart (Kenneth Branagh who directed Thor). Too bad he only did one movie.

Lupin and Sirius were oldtime friends until Potter's parents were killed, Lupin hated Sirius after that, because he believed that it was Sirius that betrayed the Potters, also believed that Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) was dead...............until Harry told Lupin that he had seen Peter Pettigrew on the Mauraders Map. Then Lupin realised that it wasn't Sirius that betrayed them, it was Pettigrew, Lupin realised that Sirius was innocent and decided to help him.

😂 In the books, Malloy is supposed to be threatening to the trio, but the actor who plays him in the movies (Tom Felton) has a natural charisma which is why he’s a fan favorite in the movies lmao cool guy

Between Michael Gambon and Richard Harris when it comes to the character of Professor Dumbledore, I will always choose Richard Harris. When I read through Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone for the first time, then saw the movie version, Richard was everything I envisioned Professor Dumbledore to be in the book: A wise, caring, wizard mentor who had a level head and a heart of gold. Michael Gambon did his best, and I commend him for it, but there is a part in the following movie adaptation that didn't match up with the literature. I will not spoil it for those who haven't seen what I'm talking about. Michael Gambon was a very dynamic Albus Dumbledore from Prisoner Of Azkaban-Deathly Hallows Part 2 with how Dumbledore uses magic. My favorite things about Prisoner Of Azkaban: 1. The song "Double Trouble". 2. Hermione punching Malfoy right in his smug face. 3. The introduction of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Remus Lupin. 4. Harry flying on Buckbeak's back.
