Fine trick visually but it's hardly going to fool professionals making it a weird choice for Fool Us. I think if you're going to do this trick, you need to find a way to simulate going through the hoop while flying. The way they did the hoop, he landed right as the hoop was brought over his head, so it was possible to slacken the line, and then he went back through the hoop in a pretty obvious way. I'm just some guy and even on a single viewing it was clear to me exactly how they did it, so for P&T this is beyond child's play.

The Copperfield flying technique, which Willi Auerbach is using, is very different from the standard Peter Pan "kid on a wire" effect. Copperfield's solution is much more sophisticated and graceful, allowing the performer to do a wide range of movements in flight. And it includes several "proof" moments, such as the hoops demonstrated here. The Copperfield rig remains the world's best live flying effect as far as I know. Sure. Putting on the Copperfield clip was a bit unkind but also kind of fair - this act lacked refinement and aesthetics and it was a "gentle nudge" to up their game or GTFO. I agree. Copperfield had two rings going around him while this couple only used one ring and she did not put the ring over him until after he landed. Something I caught right away. It may seem cruel and unkind to show Copperfield's flying trick but magicians must realize that you do have to step up their act. Its a system whereby a clear nylon monofilament on each side of his body extends out from a body harness and attach to a tracking system on the ceiling. Background and lighting are key elements to this trick as the nylons must remain invisible to the audience. David Copperfield was the first magician to perform this illusion. The system was patented at the time and the patent has since expired allowing others to use it. You will notice that when he steps into his assistants ring, she has to back track after reaching his body length because the nylons prevent the ring from going any further.

A far cry from the legendary Copperfield walking upside down in a fish tank. From there, I never got to experience the awe of "flying illusion" without instantly getting disillusioned .. except perhaps the Copperfield one - but that was on TV . I saw David Copperfield once. During his flight back and forth, I think someone forgot to turn some lights off above the stage as there was a shadow on the floor of the stage showing some rigging going back and forth with him.

Flying magic tricks always cool to see, but even though you can't see the wires, the effect is obvious done with wires. The only advantage with doing it on a screen, is the potential to pre-record the trick, then using wire removal tools, to erase any wires that might show in the act.

I'm a little bit disappointed in this one...although its a great act and performance I wonder if it could have been performed in front of a live audience? I went to Penn and Teller Fool Me years ago and if the stage is still set up the same it would be very hard to hide the contraption needed. This would make it a tv only performance. Still a good performance I just hope the show gets back to live audience and acts soon. Just my opinion.

At 2.50 where the assistant brings out a hoop I was quite disappointed as I thought she was going to pass it across his body proving there are no wires and everyone is thinking he is on wires so passing a hoop across him while he is horizontal would be pretty impressive. It's not really magic when there are only two ways this can be done and everybody and their dog knows them. I don't think it's blue screen so they used a harness.
@kyorising3 жыл бұрын
yea.. I mean this is pretty weak for this show. It's cool I guess, but not exactly new or interesting.
@S.Y.S.647383 жыл бұрын
@Jamie . W You are wrong. Magic should be surprising and make me wonder how it's done. There simply is no magic when I can see how the trick works within 2 seconds. To me this act is entertaining, not magical... although it did turn me into a wanker :P so maybe a little magic then.
@S.Y.S.647383 жыл бұрын
@Jamie . W Maybe magic has a different meaning to us? You are a magician... I don't really care about magic. I'm a logical guy working in the tech industry. CGI and other visual effects aren't exactly a secret. We see it all around us 24/7. This reminds me of another trick I saw where a guy did coin magic on what obviously was a flat screen. Is that magic? No... not to me. To me magic is snapping that paper bag with your fingers when a kid throws an invisible ball into it. Simple... yes. But it has a great effect... until you figure it out when you get older and then add it to your own 'repertoire' for other kids. Hanging on an invisible wire or playing with an I-Pad is not an illusion in 2021. I'm not a kid anymore and when I immediately see how something works, there is no magic... only a show.
@kyorising3 жыл бұрын
@Jamie . W I love magic acts. More specifically, I love NEW magic acts.. or creative ones, or twists on old ideas that make me go 'huh?', or ones where I know what's happening (slight of hand card tricks for instance) but still can't effing see how they did it. I love 90% of what I see on the show, this one just didn't do it for me.

Pen and Teller became WAY more lienant and forgiving from the forst season or two. I am still disappointed at a seasoned magician not winning in S1 or S2 because Pen actually said they only know how they did the trick because they read his book, otherwise they wouldn't know. That didn't sound fair; so they only know because he told them. Many winners from later seasons wouldn't have won if they showed up in the first two seasons. On a personal note, I just enjoy the great acts regardless who 'fools' the hosts or not.
@ThamiorSilberdrache3 жыл бұрын
@@shmookins Maybe it's just because magicians realized that P&T know every buyable trick no matter who sells them. If you go on the show you must perform with a method that is new. In the first two seasons there were a lot of buyable tricks on stage. Doesn't matter if the performing magician was the one to invent and sell the method. That became very rare. But sometimes, like in this case, it still happens. I am pretty sure Willi Auerbach knew in advance he had no chance to fool them with this trick. It was just a chance to get some promotion.
@DL-kc8fc3 жыл бұрын
@@ThamiorSilberdrache Yes, it was a chance to promote myself. Not to fool someone. We evaluate positively the coordination of movements, the control of the center of gravity, the control of the vertical "field", the aesthetic side with the bent leg)) and of course the handsome woman as an "assistant". )) Coping required many hours of training and a significant investment in props. That is what is valued.

The copperfield one is amazing. I mean we all know about the cables but check the full davids performance and the part of the cage got me speechless
@101perspective3 жыл бұрын
@@flparg2 Yeah, it is a great performance. The cage, however, looks more impressive than I suspect it actually is. I mean, just because you put a lid on that cage doesn't mean the wires can't still be there. You assume the top is completely sealed. There could easily be openings. Heck the entire length could be open on both sides. You only need the lid to secure to two sides.
@ashahashah55083 жыл бұрын
David could not turn his body toward the audience when he was in the cage. The lid prevented the cable movement.
@101perspective3 жыл бұрын
@Jamie . W I like to figure things out. Personally, I find the answer to how they did the trick to be exponentially more impressive than the tricks themselves. Especially if it requires tons of skill to pull it off. Now, that I answered your question, can you answer what your obsession is in regards to people who simply want to figure things out? Why does it even concern you? I mean, you don't have to read the comments.
