Maybe I'll change my mind. - I believe we can discard the possibility that she was in on it (planted stooges are not allowed, I believe that includes Alyson). - Maybe she just decided to fake it on the spot. I doubt that. - I would assume that she was genuinely uncomfortable with the trick, and I believe he knew that in advance, based on her reaction to some previous acts. (Do you not agree with this assumption?) He then chose her on purpose, instead of Penn, Teller, or a random audience member whom they surely would have asked whether they are OK with a trick like that. She was faced with a decision to either not take part in it (which might be hard from the perspective of her contract, and also she knows it would look bad for the show), or to be part of the trick she did not want to. And he fully knew that and counted on that. I really think I figured out a big portion of the trick. At 3:58 he acts like he is putting the solid shield in the envelope but he is actually putting it behind the envelope in his hand. There is another sheet in the envelope already with a hole in it (you can tell as he is holding the envelope awkwardly). Then a few seconds later you can see his hand, while holding the envelope and metal sheet, quickly drop down towards the table. That is when he releases the solid sheet, letting it fall down to a box or something he could kick under the table. This is why there is a cover on the table, hiding what's going on behind the table. Otherwise he would not need a covered table. He most likely did this same thing, but in reverse, with a previous envelope so it had a solid sheet when we actually thought it was a sheet with a hole in it. However, I don't know how he did the "final choice" thing. Maybe he would have a different script if she ended up picking it early or late.

So each of the plates can be either "safe" or with a "hole".
@DJBabb2 жыл бұрын
I thought the envelopes were gimmicked too (side with flap being marked for plate). But I kept coming back to the idea that the hostess kept her eye on the "solid" plate, and it was the first one to have a hole. My current theory is both. An envelope is marked safe, and the initial "solid" plate is actually holed, with a magnet slider in the plate that is moved by madnets in the spiked ring. The other two holey playes are just that. There's a second plate that's also magnetized in an open position to start, that he slides closed. Rotating the envelope would be a good clue.

The envelope that was "supposed" to have the sheet already had a plate with a hole in it, and he didn't slide the show plate in, or the show plate was soft in the middle. And the envelope that ended up stopping it, already had a plate in it so when he slid the hole'd plate in, it actually had two plates in it.

The flap of the envelopes are slightly different. Notice the roundedness of the flaps. Also, look at the way he squeezes the envelope with the iron plate at the start to make it look rounded. Or there is some other way he has marked it. But whatever the marking is, is most likely to be at the back of the envelope that he sees when placing it inside the machine. And then It really doesnt matter what she picks. How he makes the solid plate that alison picks to have a hole is basically fine machining, where a hole is cut from metal number 1 and then they cut a hole from another piece of metal to fit perfectly in first metal piece. Then they sand paper it to look like 1 piece of metal. There are many videos that show this, i think steve mould made a video about it. Then the tap on the machine is to dislodge the circular piece from the metal body, other wise there is no point of tapping it because all 4 have metal and make same sound. Then finally the safe enevlope has a thin temper glass stuck inside of it, which stops the thing from going thru. Basicaly the envelopes are the gimmick. The machine is the distraction. Penn and Teller fell for the distraction and didnt inspect the envelope. They probably just had an off day. Pretty sure they figured it out after they got back.

Danny, Susie and I remember you from way back at Yucaipa Christian Church and are still amazed at your showmanship and creativity. In previous iterations of P&T’s show, foolers would get a slot in their Vegas show. Will you be sharing the stage with them in the near future? What do you get as a result of your win?

The simplest solution I can think of is that when you pick up an envelope with a metal plate in it, it would be pretty easy to feel through the paper a depression for a hole versus a solid plate. In that case, the entirety of the trick would be totally based on presentation with multiple outs. BUT.... the thing blocking me on that line of thinking is that I refuse to believe that Penn and Teller wouldn't have considered that.
@AveragePicker2 жыл бұрын
Feeling if there was a hole in the plate would be pretty easy.
@ResurrectedBrush2 жыл бұрын
@@AveragePicker Right? That's what I'm saying. So either that solution is way too simple to be it, or it's so simple that Penn and Teller simply didn't believe that could be it.

@@ResurrectedBrush the problem is that the one with the metal plate supposedly was truly the first one he picked up. Hes not feeling for holes it seems more like slight of hand. The 4 envelopes in front of allison all are metal qith holes and he switches the solid metal one in at the wnd

Loved the performance and Danny is superb. I’ll take a shot at solving it since it was very intriguing. The solid metal was not really solid but had a soft center of rubber/plastic. One of the packets had a solid metal already placed inside it in which the metal with hole was inserted. He could feel this packet as it was heavier. Rest was Danny charmingly controlling the narrative as Allison made her choices.

I like this theory except Alison SWORE she has picked the right one to begin with. So that part still trips me up. *slight of hand I guess*
@DevinBaillie2 жыл бұрын
I think the solid metal never went into the envelope in the first place, and it already had a metal plate with a hole in it. Then when he wanted the metal plate, he used some (very good, I can't spot it) slight of hand to add the plate to the envelope. So none of the envelopes on the table had a solid plate in it, but the one in the device at the end has both a solid and holy metal plate.
