I can see someone in a small room wanting his "End game" bookshelves and buying these. They will NOT however play them with $50,000 worth of electronics as shown in this video. I hate when reviewers do this. Play the speakers with associated equipment that is likely at that price. I saw another video of LS50s being played with PASS LABS monoblocks...give me a break!

I owned the A3's and I wasn't impressed. As I don't have a Magico dealer near me I had the A3's shipped from a dealer in Texas. When I called the dealer and told him I wasn't happy with the sound he wanted me to try them with the special Magico footers designed specifically for the A3's. 1500 dollars later, still not impressed. I tried the A3's with several amps which had plenty of power including a Hegel H590 & Wyred4Sound SX1000R mono-blocks with a great preamp, still not impressed. I also tried using different high-end interconnects and speaker cables with no improvement. The sound of the A3's wasn't bad, it's just that they were kind of polite and laid-back sounding, nothing special - and for the price they should be special. Maybe Magico toned the sound of the A3's down a little so they wouldn't compete too much with their more expensive models, just speculation. Anyway, with the rave reviews for the A3's (not to mention the cost) I kept thinking there must be some limitation with my system or maybe my ears. I eventually sold the A3's with two lessons learned. 1) Never use a dealer that doesn't have a great return and customer satisfaction policy. 2) More money does not always equal a better product. I hope this information saves someone some time and money, I know I'm much more careful now. Oh, and as for my ears, I've been very happy with the sound of the Zu Druid Mk5's I'm using now along with the M&K 950 series speakers I have in my HT system.

I’m about to purchase a pair of A5’s. I haven’t been able to audition them because the dealer I’m buying them from is out of state (I’m too lazy to fly out there). I don’t believe they are nothing like the A3’s but just curious if you have anything good or bad to say about them. Thx for your review!
@ousi002 жыл бұрын
I had the A3. Those are very honest speakers without any emphasis on mid-range or any other range, which people usually regard it as dull. The bass in particular sounds lean but is actually accurate IMO, very different than ported MDF box speakers with some bass bloom like old tube amps/old vinyl records. Some people don't like this (lack-of) sound signature, but I do find them natural sounding with Nagra Classic Preamp + Amp stack. Hegel is very bright sounding in my opinion for the ones I tried, and W4S power amps don't have good high end and with recessed mid-range (typical B&O ICE signature). The speaker is likely showing the amplification weakness as far as I can tell. No, cable cannot fix that unfortunately as those can only be used for fine-tuning. I bet it will play quite nice with Pass Labs X series (class AB) amps. Anyway, I then sold the A3 when I moved to a smaller listening space (wife banished my hi-fi system from living room to my study room; and no the Nagra stack good look doesn't help). I now have a pair of Raidho XT2 which sounds very lively but I sometimes wonder if I should actually give the Magico A1 (1 level down) or S1 a try. Maybe after I got the Spectral preamp + power amp in Jan I might consider changing out the speakers to Magico.

I wish acoustics worked on parameters of the depth of one's pocket, but they don't! Stick one commercial/store bought speak in a thousand different acoustic environments (lets call them rooms) and you'll get a thousand different frequency responses. The quicker people realise that, instead of buying garbage like the above, the better off they'll be!

What is the frequency response (-3 db points)? This info is not on the company's website
@super-z89434 жыл бұрын
Magico uses different parameters for measuring the -3dB point. Check any good website that tests speakers and you will realize that magico speakers claiming -3dB at say 35Hz has considerably different response than xyz brand claiming the same. Real strength of sealed speakers are -6dB and -10dB levels but sadly Magico doesn't state those.

Now a day , affordable speakers is 10000.00$ dollars, no wonder this Hobby is fading
@billdunn85425 жыл бұрын
Ted Yip if you think this hobby is fading, your point of reference is way off kilter. Affordable audio has never offered so much for so little. High end audio never better. The real problem is that the middle class is being systematically destroyed by the Oligarchs wannabes who are taking over America.
@BrooksBerdanLtd5 жыл бұрын
We think that affordable high end, luxury audio can be had for under $5000 for a complete system. Bill is right, more and more people are flocking back to music systems.
@willmac56424 жыл бұрын
Fading? Not sure about that. At least with 'affordable highend' speakers and more audiophile 'one box' streaming solutions coming on market. Admittedly some of the traditional brands havent kept up.
@hushpuppykl4 жыл бұрын
Ted Yip ... people are still buying speakers that costs 5-10 times more than the price of these. So what’s fading? Fact is uber high end hifi still sells.
@peace-yv4qd3 жыл бұрын
This is the best time in the history of HI-FI. More choices and higher end that is available for first time to the masses. Five thousand bucks can give you a killer setup.
