Thank you Thorsten for featuring my work in this series, great talk as always! I was always a 50 guy like you, but recently started to use the 35mm more, love the Steel Rim and the 35mm AA as two opposite character lenses. Take care my friend

FLE does mean ''floating lens element'', but it's not the FLE mechanism that makes the rattling sound when you shake it. It's your aperture assembly that's shaking around. If it's your lens element making that noise, the lens is in big trouble. FLE means some lens elements (in the rear group) move independently from the main lens group.

Added the 35 aspherical version 1 (gorgeous and mine doesn't back focus) and the (pre-a)spherical version 2. I may be mad but I am starting to prefer spherical Leica lenses. The 75 lux, for example.

Thank you for sharing about 35mm Summilux, Thorsten. 35mm Summilux is a good lens to capture people, their environment & groups, but 50mm is the best lens to capture people alone. Looking forward to hear your review about the new 35mm Summilux FLE II in the future.

Summilux 50 was probably best lens I have ever owned. Now, reduced to one camera (Leica Q1) I am in love with the 28mm Summilux. It is creamy, dreamy with amazing colors right of the camera. As an amateur and also photography lover, it gives me everything I want and more. Cheers.

I’ve never had a 35 Summilux, or any focal length summilux in fact. I’m more than happy with my 35 eight element and my 50 DR. I’ve never seen any need to “upgrade”.

The illustrative photos alone that you choose are worth the price of admission … thanks for a fine overview. I’m still aspiring to Leica ownership but in the mean time, I’m enjoying the 35 mm equivalent field of view on my new Fujifilm X100V after years of taking iPhone snaps. As always, a very informative and enjoyable presentation … merci from Quebec!

Hello dear friend . If you had to choose between this lens and the Leica APO- Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH lens, which one would you prefer?
@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard Жыл бұрын
I think I would find the narrow sharpness of the f/1.4 the most fun to use. The 35 APO is impressive for what it can do though.

I've got the 35 Cron Bokeh King and the 35 FLE. Both great lenses, both very different. You're right, Leica lenses are sharp where it counts, but soft and human at the same time, which is why they are worth the mooney.

Interesting, informative video. Have you considered using 40mm lenses, which are a compromise between 35mm and 50mm? Thanks

Yes, I have the 40mm Summicron-C which is compact and nice. Thought no frame-lines for it in the Leica M. Bot a big problem, you get used to it.

Hi Thorsten , don't you use Monochrome Leica instead of converting from colour to black and white?

Film doesn’t really move like you explain. The lesser tolerance comes from lower resolution but much more because different film stocks have different thickness.

is the optical performance of 35mm FLE1 Summilux and 35mm FLE2 Summilux the same? Is FLE2 designed for higher mega pixels?
@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard Жыл бұрын
Yes, the optics are the same, the aperture of the "FLE2" near focus has two more blades which is giving a smoother bokeh.

You’re definitely a good saler of 50mm! 😂 I like 35mm because it enables me to photograph humans in their environment. I also like that it is the standard lens for cinema, which makes me feel like I’m taking photos that look like they come from a movie… I have the 35mm FLE and I have seen pictures with the new close-up version. The new one has less chromatic aberration as well.
@WhoIsSerafin Жыл бұрын

I love the way 50mms render things a faces and perspective but the issue is that you can’t always go further back. So for my Leica I use 35mm. But things can be a bit further away. Cinematographers have long used a 40mm equivalent which doesn’t really distorts things but let’s in a bit more image. Last year I shot a few rolls in a Canonet with a 40mm lens and things look very natural. The issue is that Leica is so fixed on their classic photography focal lengths they won’t make cameras with 40mm frame lines and 40mm lenses, although it would fit the Leica philosophy so well.
@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard Жыл бұрын
True, a 40mm is one of my wishes or dreams. The Leica-C/Minolta-C lens 40mm f/2.0 exist though, and is a rare gem.
@Sniper5354 Жыл бұрын
The aspherical element of 11663 is not machine-ground. It is moulded, giving rise to bokeh with onion rings. Nowadays nearly all of Leica's small aspherical surfaces are moulded. Only those large aspherical surfaces, such as those of 0.95, are machine-ground.
@MIZRAIM1906 Жыл бұрын
The steel rim is too soft... Also the soul of Leica is SMALL... Therefore I sold my 50mm 0.95 Leica because it was too big. I'm a 35mm Summicron man. I have the King of Bokeh and absolutely love it on my M240.

@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard10 ай бұрын
Not sure about size of camera. And then there is the lenses. Some of the Nikon lenses, especially the older Nikkor lenses, I could have fun with (and used to have Nikon FM3 and more, as well as 58/1.2 and other lenses with it). Hasselblad is the camera that tempts me the most these days.

Ps. Wanted to purchase the new 50 1.2 -though after mounting and trying 3-4 frames in the store disregarded it right the way - complete ***** . The is no sharpnes i cant even tell where the focus was just an oozyng mess . (Im professional DP/ cinematographer ) and we are add filters to kill sharpness when shooting close up of women often . This lens felt same way as if i shot through a dirty window . Cheers . And again hold it in hands heavy and cold theres nothing like it . Ps ( best lenses ever produced are Otus by Zeiss . But with 300 degrees through they are impossible to use for moving subjects on street :(( and build is unparalleled though from aluminum - which is crazy prone to dents unlike leicas steel or glass. Cheers cheers

Nice talk as usual and i even didnt see i smudge of some kind of snobbism(patronizing attitude) which was/is always repulsive . In this video You have a good attitude . Also as usual frankly want to add that leica lenses are notoriously awful in controlling CA , fringing and having awful sharpness wide open ( take sgot at 1.4 and bring sharpness sliders in CO or LR to ZERO ) . Im myself owned all systems the most expensive glass . The best are Sony GM’s . So im using this system for years now (updating optics and cameras with new releases) yet this 2022 year out of esthetics decided to acquire Leicas , Q2 REPo, 10R , two M11s and 50 with 35 1.4 ( all new ) . And comparing with my Sony lenses i was blown with frustration how unspeakably bad they are . But now i have made my peace with it . I am crazy about the look of Leicas and how heavy theyre in hands im into watches as well and love vintage things - Leica justifies the need . . So i keep them and using for my personal fun . Never for work . Also Love your Hoods ! @veprges_angeles
