That is quite a transformation, well done! I'm curious about the age of this piece, and the movement - the bezel turns in both directions so it's a "skin-diver" rather than a full diver as we know them today? But the movement, so tiny. Why would Seiko use something so small? It's definitely a unique piece.
@MagicWatchmaking2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment and the support! I was very happy with how it turned out. Unfortunately I was unable to find any information on the watch, so I do not know the age of the watch or its history. If anybody does know, please let me know as I would be curious myself!
@geoffquickfall2 жыл бұрын
Smaller than case diameter movements were used on many dive watches or field watches in the past as well. The theory is that; if any water seeps through any of the ingress areas (case back to case, crown to case, crystal to case) it will not immediately seep into the movement as it has to traverse a distance from the seepage point to the movement. The theory applies, of course, to extremely small amounts of moisture and not overwhelming catastrophic failures in the seals. Omega used a small rectangular movement in their early manual wind robust watches for that reason. Something many watch owners do not realize is the affect of putting a just worn watch (body temperature) onto a cold surface. This causes the air pressure within the case to reduce and cause a vacuum. This vacuum will suck any condensation or moisture from around the seepage points (see above) into the movement and especially the crown interface. The crown is the most prone leakage point due to the excessive winding and setting wear to the crown/stem/case gasket system.
@painting-with-J2 жыл бұрын
@@MagicWatchmaking Based on the serial number on the case and movement it was made in either February 1981 or February 1991. My guess is 1981 for that model.

You are in reality - a True Craftsman. I have just had a thirty year+ old divers watch restored, so I was very interested in what that involved from the technical perspective. I now have a truly redefined appreciation of what an horologist in reality achieves and the amount of care and work which that involves. Absolute pleasure to watch your video and to be re-educated, even at my age -73 Thank you and I wish you only good things. I have this watch and it is 45 years old. It has worked every day, and has the patina that only a Boilermaker could give it, welding spatter and all. About 5 years ago I had it restored, but did not want the exterior touched. Now it has returned to less than 4 minutes a year. My jeweler begged me to sell it to him. He took photos of the movement and it looked pristine.
