John Humphrey This is not a VO engine. It is a model 606 rated at 800HP. This engine was originally Built for Medford Corp as an S-8 with 3 stacks. The extra stacks were added later. Many logging railroads added the extra stacks to their non-turbocharged Baldwin units to simplify spark control. In Baldwin parlance it was known as "hot rodding". This unit is also notable as being the only Baldwin switcher equipped with dynamic brake from the factory.

I just came back from Globe I saw those tracks crossing 60 highway I was thinking wonder if you can build a rail kart take it on those tracks looking at google maps goes at least 10 miles when it gets close to the mines several places they covered the tracks.

Does the Magma Arizona 606 still exist? Those 6 stacks are one of a kind!

If you mean #8 with the 6 stacks, it is preserved operational at White City Oregon as Medford 8. The 6 stack arrangement was not unique, see comments below.

fmnut Yes and great! Not one of a kind but still pretty rare, I guess I mispoke. Someday I'll have to make the trek up to Oregon to see it.

Bill Rae 8 is at White City OR preserved in its original Medford Co. livery. 9 at last report was stored unserviceable at Superior AZ. 10 is at the Arizona Railroad Museum in Chandler.
