Dude, monster arms? he has skinny long arms = bad leverage and he's not used to the exact movement as you can see while he is setting himself up there. No wonder could not bench (I believe) significantly higher than his bodyweight.
@el_mal_de_ojo
@el_mal_de_ojo 9 ай бұрын
@@josefzocek9585 He has long arms but they're fairly muscular, specially his biceps. Makes sense, that's a muscle that develops from climbing. He can't bench because benching targets the chest, shoulders and triceps. Nothing at all to do with biceps.
@TheBcoolGuy
@TheBcoolGuy 9 ай бұрын
Monster arms? LOL. LMAO, even. It was 70 kg, and even then, he didn't properly bench 60 kg. The bar has to touch your chest. His arms are small. He's small. He's just stupidly lean.

I love this aspect of the climbing community. I do think there are a few exceptions but they are also not mainstream sports. For example, Mitchell Hooper has some pretty fun stuff (worlds strongest man), Haftor Bjornnson (WSM making a huge comeback after a major pec tear last year), Bob Jones (powerlifter - explicit language but also interesting), and Taylor Atwood (also a powerlifter who is making a bit of a comeback?).

I actually had the same problem with 1 arm pull up as Adam, but after 8 years of climbing I figured out that the movement from straight hand to "where climbers start to feel strong" can be done wrong (I was doing it wrong). If I do it wrong, I am locked in ~150 degrees arm angle unable to move up. But if I do it is correct then I can keep pulling. I took my time just to learn this movement from straight to bent arm (I even stood underneath hangboard tensing and releasing my muscles without actual hanging just to learn the feeling of that movement until I figured out how to do it to have correct feeling when I get into bent arm position). I also did small amount of repetitions of "that part of movement that I used to do wrong". Once my brain figured out that movement and my muscles got used to it a little bit (around 3 weeks) I unlocked full one arm pull up. I am not even sure which part of that movement I did wrong, but I know the feeling of correct vs incorrect movement is different and learnable. At least in my case it was learnable. :)

3:20 The wingspan of that guy is INSANE! To reach an IPF technically correct bench press, his elbows must drop below his shoulders, and then the bar must touch his chest (and I think there is a maximum grip width), so the proper bench form for Adam still requires a huge arch in his back to raise his chest to the bar once his elbows are down.

I didn't read any disgust, just good humor and laughter. And to be fair, women (in general) would have an advantage in that type of exercise because they have a lower center of gravity. From the NIH - women commonly have an 8 - 15% lower longitudinal center of gravity (COG or center of mass relative to height) than men.

4:20 It is beneficial for all types of compression though, and the chest muscles are more involved in pulling movements than you'd think. So if you want to be a powerful boulderer I'd argue that bench press should be a staple in your routine (maybe not as important for leadclimbing though). And besides, having a relatively strong base in pressing movements reduces the injury risk for the shoulders.

For anyone trying to hold their breath for over 2 min - First time I actually tried holding my breath for as long as possible I did just over 3 minutes. You lungs hold way more oxygen than you realise but you have to push yourself to overcome the feeling of CO2 build up in your lungs - I just had to focus on staying calm and almost "getting used" to the feeling of the CO2 build-up happening but keeping your body calm is super important. Try build up to each milestone as well: on your first hold go for 1:30, then 2:00, then 2:30, and then try for reaching 3:00 after that. Set a timer for the first 3 and then just activate your stopwatch for the last attempt and don't pay attention to the time.

This was so much fun to watch. Usually we see you both concentrate and look serious while climbing. But this felt really fun and relaxed and your laughs are infectious 👍🏻 x
