Yes, they were an amazing little car, and the handling was so good when raced or rallied - or as shown in both The Italian Job and The Bourne Identity. They were never designed to be that good when raced or souped-up and pushed hard, but my God.....what a brilliant little car the classic mini was. My favorite chase movie is Duel in that there was more intensity in the drama of the hunt and chase. Action scenes notwithstanding but constant action and crashing doesn't necessarily make a good movie. In Duel, the whole movie was a hunt and chase scene but it was as intense as any chase scene movie I know of - for most of the movie! That is, Duel worked as it focused on the drama of the chase without majestic and exaggerated music and without the constant crashy action. Kinda like Jaws - that movie was scary as h*ll with very few actual shark action scenes - like when the shark "'appeared" during the singing of "Show Me the Way to go Home." Friggin' one of the scariest movie scenes ever!

Maybe not a car "chase" movie per se, but to me the most authentic, and realistic car movie was 2 lane black top. The sounds, and most of the terminology was as accurate as any Hollywood car movie ever made. Maybe the plot, and acting sucked, but the car scenes, and drag racing was spot on. But to me, the best car movie, was American Graffiti. Pretty good acting, story line, and car scenes. When ever we left the drive-in, after watching these movies, the outside roads were scarred for life. :)
