I feel like it's possibily down to David Hayter, one of the screenwriters. I feel like I've read somewhere that this sequence was his idea, and either way, he's awesome so I don't mind if I'm wrong. Plus, he rewrote the first X-Men secretly, and it was so good they fired the original screenwriter who had him do it and gave him sole credit

This is my 2nd favorite X Men movie next to Days of Future Past and Logan. All the other X Men movies DO NOT MATTER! I didn't like the 1st X Men movie, I didn't like The Last Stand, I didn't like Apocalypse or the rest. X2 has the best action, story, and screenplay writing out of the original trilogy. The filmmakers and screenplay writers really dropped the ball on Rogue. Myself and a lot of other X Men fans were hoping Rogue was a lot like how she was portrayed in the 1992 animated series that didn't happen.

Just a great example of why simplicity is great. He doesn't alter dimensions in some way or have cosmic god abilities to shoot energy from his life force or anything crazy. His superpower is just magnetism, plain and simple. And he's honed it to a razor's edge to become one of the strongest villains in comic or film.

0:56 Magneto stands up and radiates a strange kind of confidence, at least from the guard's perspective and he immediately gets nervous and senses that something is off. He asks him to sit down and when Magneto refuses, he immediately reaches for his weapon and threatens him to sit down again. That's how you do power well, in a scene. mostly it comes down to people forgetting what his power actual is, most people just assume he move/manipulate metal, but he can control and manipulate magnetic fields, as well as generating electromagnetic pulses. Comic book Magneto doesnt even need the metal disc in this scene to fly since he just uses the electromagnetic energy that surrounds earth to fly, he has even on occasion made himself invisible since light is part the electromagnetic spectrum. Dude has literally survived a nuclear blast by creating force fields out of the electromagnetic fields he can control/alter. Electromagnetism has such wild and crazy applications once you move beyond the "can move metal". He can rip things apart at the atomic level so long as the reason for the particles being held together is electromagnetism. He could totally reverse the polarity of the earth if he wanted.
