I heard this at the "Three Cathedral Choir Festival" held in London Ontario Mat3-5, 2013 at the concluding Evensong for the Festival. It was an outstanding experience as heard on this recording. This Festival is the first of its kind in Canada involving the Cathedral Choirs of St. Paul's London, Detroit and Buffalo. Awesome music...so inspirational.

the gloria is a riot - i love it. most victorian music we sang seemed rigid, staid and turgid but this is a riot of colour and character. so much fun to sing.

Thanks for this very nice rendition. I am not too enamoured with the typesetting of this CPDL score generally. Critically however, it has some errors: e.g., in "and my spi-rit" the tenor line should read C# on 'rit', not D, and in "And his mercy ..." the alto entry should read A to be in unison with the trebles, i.e., 'And' should not be G# but A. So, for anyone learning their voice part from this I would bear that in mind.

I sang in Manchester Cathedral in the '50s under Alan Wicks , later to be organist at Canterbury. I never heard a better soprano than Paul Goddard , compared to whom I shuddered at my own efforts! However , how do you improve without a a high standard to aim at? Thanks for this recording , and to C.V. Stanford. Patrick Smith

Bit of a sweeping statement don't u think ? I could play it backwards not that difficult I could think of worst pieces to accompany such as the Leighton mag and nunc.

@ lustful2, you'd be surprised how many organists- and not just inexperienced ones- have troubles with piece. The best I've ever heard it played was by a 19 yr old organ scholar. My church's organist, who's been at it for over 30 years and has a doctorate, botches something about it every time. I first sang this mag and nunc at a choir camp several years ago and it's among my favorite glorias ever! Stanford writes good stuff :) Thanks for posting!

In th and hath exulted the humble part I think just that couple bars are 4 soloists but I know u dont own Cpdl so yeah. I am a chorister at Washington National cathedral and we have always done it as a solo.
