Fun fact: Hürrem did, in fact, send frequent letters to Suleiman, who was often off on campaign, and was, at least at the start, assisted in writing those letters by Gülfem, who was a harem stewardess close to the Imperial family that Suleiman actually charged with protecting Hürrem initially. (In the future, Gülfem would also be the only member of the harem that Hürrem would include in the greetings of her own letters.)

So, there was absolutely precedent for women from within the harem being married off (in fact, both Hürrem and Suleiman would do it under her governance of the harem) and it was typically seen as a mark of favor since these were highly educated, attractive women. However, women like Hürrem, who still held the sultan's favor, weren't meant to be selected and not even bothering to check if she was pregnant to start with only makes this plan stupider.

Another interesting fact is that Suleiman had a living half brother because Selim I married off a pregnant concubine he had (I forgot the reasons why) and when that brother died, Suleiman reportedly mourned him heavily.

@@asurmenhandofasuryan4610 I really wanted to see that in the show! It's one of those aspects where, while I can't find as much support for it as I'd like historically, I find it so fascinating that I want to see it included anyway. Especially since, if real, he in fact lived for quite some time, only dying in 1547.
