What Suleiman says here is very important -- he knows Hurrem isn't a saint and has done many awful things throughout her life in the harem, but she never betrayed him. She never pitted her children against anyone. She was unfailingly loyal to him and by extension, his reign. That's what Mahidevran, Hatice, Fatma, and a whole lot of other people never came to grips with. She never lusted for power or riches. All she wanted was HIM.
@Redluna32Ай бұрын
It's a part of why I've never been able to view Fatma's response as the "own" others try to paint it as either. In the Ottoman Empire, where you had to be suspicious of basically everyone in order to survive, it's incredibly easy to understand why receiving such absolute loyalty from someone would be so precious.

You have hit the nail on the head with your comments. The problem was that mahidrevan and the rest never accepted that because of their own ulterior motives of greed and their hunger for power.

I despise Gulfem. She wants to be portrayed as an innocent third party, but she is part of almost every plot used against Hurrem. Helping Mahidevran, rousing sultana Hatice, whispering to valide about her previous status as a Russian slave, she also aided Sultana Sha against hurrem’s daughter. Hurrem just needs to get rid of her.

That is right - Hurrem did terrible things. I never forgave her for Mustafa.But she drew the line at her children and Suleiman. Mahidevran was a little too happy the first time Suleiman got seriously ill, way back when Suleiman's mother was Valide, so much that the Valide was furious at her. Hurrem, meanwhile, was losing her mind at the thought of losing him. Yeah, his death left her at Mustafa's mercy, but there was real heartbreak in her every time Suleiman had a brush with death.

I love how Sulieman embraced and used the lesson Hurrem gave to him when he tried to make her his scapegoat for Mustafa's execution against Fatma here. She told him she was not innocent...but because of the pursuit of power the system creates neither is anyone else in the palace...even him. He also gave her the exact reason he favors Hurrem above all others ..she IS absolutely loyal to him as her Sultan and doesn't draw her children into her fight's or palace intrigues. How ridiculous and full of hypocrisy is Fatma that after all of the scheming she has done she villainizes Hurrem for her plots...which are mostly to protect her children and herself.

Hurrem never held the title Valide. That is normally reserved for the mother of the ruling sultan. Hurrem died before Selim became Sultan. Her title is Haseki which was created for her by Suleiman. Fatma was born princess of the dynasty so she is a sultana like Mirhimah.
