Honestly if I was Kosem I never would’ve forgiven Osman for what he did, she was always nice to him and treated him as her son and didn’t make differences between him and her biological children. She fed him and took care of him when his mother died so him repaying all that she has done for him and the motherly love she has for him by killing Mehmet and breaking her heart even more than it already was after her husband’s death is just horrible and unforgivable. That was very cruel of him, his father would be ashamed of him as well, Ahmed never wanted his children to fight against each other let alone kill each other, despite the multiple occasions when Mustafa was used to try to harm him and his family he never killed his little brother, him doing that also provoked the death of his other brothers cause his actions influenced Murad mentality and the way he became when he was Sultan which ended up with him killing 2 of his brothers and making so many wrong choices which ended up with his sister and his family’s deaths as well. Also if he hadn’t killed Kasim then Kasim probably would’ve been the next Sultán after he died and not Ibrahim which I think would have resulted in Kosem not being killed in the end. Osman killing Mehmet started a whole chain of reactions that just ended up with the death of so many members of the royal family and well a lot of people in general.

Osman 2 went for battle at the age of 17 moving towards west Europe but lost the battle because of Jenuseries rebels. Osman decided for future of Ottoman that Jenuseries must go and new army should be found and trained but due to traitors in the palace and his mother Kosem sultan (who could have saved Osman) didn't come for help because they were busy saving there own power and influence on the empire. And talking about Osman 2 brother Mehmet, if Osman didn't execute him, Mehmet would have rebel and if he was sucessed he would have killed all his brothers. But at last History is History and Osman 2 was killed and later only good Sultan that came to power during that time was his brother Murad 4 he was also capable to achieving greater heights and even succeeded in taking Bagdad. But he also faced his empire traitors and his Evil Mother. This is the all because of Kosem who decided her sons for her own gain. @nainagupta2 жыл бұрын
@@hayshibea1702 it was not only Mehmet who wanted the throne but Osman too. The only difference being Mehmet was too outspoken via his actions while Osman wasn't. Given the fact that Kosem favoured Osman more made Mehmet extremely jealous. All the things that Mehmet did wrong was all created by Kosem. I would say that he wanted to prove his mother that he was as much of a deserving prince as Osman was. Kosem should have been more of a mother to Mehmet than she actually was or she should actually have cared for both of them equally from start. Then this jealousy and hatred would not have propelled. Kosem literally mentioned to Osman she loved him more than all her other children, that's actually sad. But you know after Osman took the throne, Mehmet kept his profile low, didn't act rationally or created problems. It was only Safiya Sultana's plot that made him a victim and Osman not being able to read the trap actually fell for it. He really should have trusted Kosem more rather than all the other members of the Palace. There is a saying, "blood is thicker than water" and it really suited Mehmet, Osman and Kosem's situation.

The biggest reason for the Fratricide law was the governance issues and anarchism caused by the elite Yeniçeri Corps which became a state within a state. Whenever a Sultan was enthroned who had male siblings the Yeniçeri used to take advantage by blackmailing or threatening the Sultan. The Yeniçeri would make illegal demands like unfair salary raises or appointments of their choice in the Divaan. Or else they would rebel and replace the Sultan with one of his brothers. This gave a leverage to the Yeniçeri over the Sultans whose footings were weakened. The Sultan couldn't rule at all due to these problems as there was a constant threat so this is why the Princes were executed. And honestly there was no other way to stop this.

An analysis about the Ottoman Law of Fatricide (sibling killing)! Ottomans did have the practice of killing their brothers. But it wasn't done out of mere power lust. One should study the dynamics of their empire to understand why such a cruel policy existed. Actually after the defeat of Sultan Beyazid 1 by Amir Temur, the empire was plunged into a very long and bloody civil war. Sultan Beyazid 1 died in Timur's captivity and then his sons started fighting each other for the seat of the Sultan. This is known as the Ottoman Interregnum. Means a period without any official leader. This lasted for many years with multiple battles being fought between various sons of Sultan Beyazid 1. The human and financial cost of this war was extremely high with thousands dead and a huge sum of money being wasted. The empire almost came to the brink of destruction. But finally Sultan Mehmet Chalebi 1 took control and stabilised things. Later Sultan Fatih Mehmet 2 legislated a law called Fatricide Law which allowed a Sultan to kill his brothers for the sake of public interest. Basically to stop any kind of civil wars or Fitnah as it was destructive for the people. This law was approved by majority of the Scholars who deemed it permissible for the public interest was the first priority. But there was also a governance issue. The elite military Corp Yenceri became way too powerful. It was almost a state within a state. This elite military unit started to exert influence over the Sultans due to their power in the military and political spheres. They would make illegal demands from the Sultans like salary raises & appointment of their own people on important political posts. Otherwise they would threaten the Sultans to dethrone them and replace them with their brothers. This weakened the authority of the Sultans who were blackmailed by the Yenceris as they had great leverage of the Sultans. A very important example to quote is the murder of Sultan Genc Osman. He was a young and ambitious Sultan who wanted to reform the military by dismantling the Yenceri and hiring new troops from the Levant as their replacement to create a modern military. The Yenceri understood that if this was achieved then they would lose their power. So they revolted and imprisoned the Sultan. A faction of the Yenceri later strangled Sultan Osman 1 at the fortress where he was being kept. And they installed Sultan Mustafa 1 on the throne to ensure that their own power was retained. So the Fratricide policy existed due to these tough dynamics and was implemented as a necessary evil. But Ottoman Sultans weren't proud of this in anyway. They were forced to take harsh decisions for the stability and peace of the state.

This removal is us then in the event that there are no such problems .. they then compose by inserting a lesson on the children of the nation

This was the first of Osman's big mistakes. Question, anyone know what song is played during Sezade Mehmet's execution? They play it at another part and I cannot remember for what. I want to say it's when Safiye Sultan rebels and tries to have Kosem killed while Ahmet and Darvish are away.

Fear and greed make people do worst of things. It was their trend and rule during those times. If one watches from human point of view there was nothing magnificent about those periods. They were just looting all type of resources from other countries. Other's money, women and children. Many others have done the same through the ages and it is continuing till today in different ways.
