Their song Les Morts Dansant is one of the most beautiful and poetic songs ever written about someone being executed. The singer, Bob Catley, also has his own solo band, and has appeared on albums by Avantasia and Ayreon as well.

A masterpiece from one of the great bands from the golden era of rock, the 70/80s. The quality of these bands, like Magnum, shows in how many of them are still creating music 40 or 50 years into their careers.

Firstly thank you for reacting to Magnum. One of the most underrated bands to come out of the UK. They have such a back catalogue of classics and are still releasing brilliant albums today. They are releasing a new album in January 2022 which I have already pre-ordered. Please more Magnum. Actually my KZbin name is a Magnum classic.

Underrated and super nice band. Most of the songs written by the mighty tony " the hat" Clarkin and the voice of the always "apple picking" Bob Catley, the rest of the guys were awesome too. More Magnum please. Thanks.

Hi Jon I'm not worthy - these lads have been my favourite ever band for over 30 years. This an incredible salutation that you given it and I hope you have been converted. I went to see them live recently - they still put above one hell of a show on even if they don't play this one at current. The lead singer (Bob) and guitarist (Tony) are still up there now giving it big, even though both now in their mid 70s. Once again thanks very much for this mate. Tasting a band you haven't heard before, via a 10 and a half minute long song is a very tall order. All the best for your page and look forward to seeing what else you react to in the future. DAVE (Sheffield, UK)

Cool a reaction to Magnum, the band I listened to in my teenage years. it's still great music from a bygone era. Bob Catley has an incredible voice and also participates in the Avantasia supergroup.

Went to see them back in about 96 in Birmingham, when the concert finished they invited the whole audience to a club and they played cover songs for about an hour and a half and everyone got a Christmas card 🎉. What a fantastic band.

This is my all time favourite band! And it is about time someone has done a reaction to them! This is my favourite track. Next year is their 50th anniversary. 22 albums and still going strong! Take a listen to "Spin like a wheel" or " Rocking chair" There are hundreds to choose from plus their album covers are some of the best going!

Magnum played in my home town back in the 90s. As this was the era of grunge, alternate rock and crossover bands like Primus, our local newspaper didn't hesitate in describing them as past it, or the cliche "rock dinosaurs". Magnum were a band I got into quite young, so I was happy to go see them (and seeing as I was too young to get into many venues, and we didn't get many decent bands playing here, I would have gone even if I'd never heard them). Firstly, they were fucking amazing. To this day, I still say they were one of the best live bands I've ever seen. The musicianship was spot on, and Bob knows how to perform, not just sing. Secondly, for all the piss-taking in the local press about how they were no longer relevant, the hall was packed, and the audience were going nuts. Rumour has it that there were about 300 people more than was legally allowed in, from staff sneaking friends and family in because it was sold out.

Magnum are monstrously talented & innovative cult band with an epic discography. Front man Bob Catley sings with such conviction and is arguably one of rocks’s all legends. Lead & rhythm guitarist Tony Clarkin is an absolute wizard which is hardly surprising given they were hewn from the same UK rock/ metal anvil as Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin. Infact in the 70’s they even supported and toured with Black Sabbath / Nuff said!!! 🤘😈👍

Just thought I add this, as no one else has said it, the sing is about the horrors of World War 1 - People thought it would be 'fun' and had no ideas of the coming nightmare!
@ericadams34282 жыл бұрын
However the Maginot line is mentioned and it wasn't built until the 1930's. When Britain went to war with Germany in September 1939, it was not uncommon for the British people to hear, “It'll all be over by Christmas" ... I like to think it refers to all wars.
@ChrisPage683 жыл бұрын
It's a Magnum tradition to have an Anti-war song on each album. This was from the Wings Of Heaven album. It's about World War One.
@Tommy-56842 жыл бұрын
yet they mention the Maginot line witch is WW2
@ericadams34282 жыл бұрын
Indeed, work began on the Maginot line in 1928 and was completed by 1938.

Tony writes great songs but sometimes his history is a bit suspect.. That and his ego in not accepting songs from other members.

Yes, they were great way back then. Bob's voice is well and truly shot now and the keyboard player, Mark Stanway was, depending on who's telling the story, sacked/quirtafter 30 years. The drummer and bass player are also long gone.

In fairness, Bob's well into his 70s, and his voice is no worse than a lot of rock singers of similar age.
