Thanks guys for the reaction video. Sorry its been a few months since you did this and its just been shared on the Magnum social page. Always good to see people discovering the band and enjoying the music. The band has been around a long time and has had a few band members change over the years but Bob CATLEY the singer and Tony Clarkin the guitarist and song writer still remain at the core of the band. They have a new album out in 2022, which will be there 50th year anniversary as a performing band. It would be great top get a review on some of the new material also. The band photo you show is a different line up from the version that you review. That really does not matter at all to be honest. Its just cool to have someone take the time to do a video on their music. Again thank you for taking the time and posting the video. Appreciate it., Al Barrow. (Former band member)

Al super appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment! I now realize the photo is not the right lineup. Between my son and I we spend approx 200 hours a month on the channel. 50 vids or so, 50 thumbnails etc, just not enough time in the day to get it right every time. I appreciate your understanding. One of our Patrons, a huge fan of you guys brought an entire top 10 that I thought was great - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ3Fg3yAdstoe7c. Rock on brother!

YOU ARE NOT MAGNUM. Stop trying to be the figurehead. You're a session musician at best

@@14percentviking Thank you, you have spent much of your morning watching Magnum videos and reading the comments. Ypu spent time leaving disparaging ones for me, but thats ok. We all have opinions. The band and this channel appreciate the time and energy it took to leave this comment. Thank you also for the wonderful comment about me being a session musician. I make a very comfortable living doing that so your comment is quite correct. As you may be referring to Magnum directly, some people as yourself do see the other band members as hired guys. That’s fine if thats what floats ye boat. I was with them for 19 years so I figure that was a good length of employment. Many fun and exciting years contributing to the band back catalogue and history. I hope you have found something in your life you can be proud of and get a feeling of accomplishment. We all need a little of the good stuff to look back on from time to time. I am still employed by the band and although I don’t tour I still work closely with the band members and also on behalf of the Clarkin family. I hope this helps you get through your day and I hope i don’t spend too much time living rent free in your head? So have a wonderful day and i hope your dreams and aspiration come to fruition like many of mine did with Magnum. Thank again for the comment. I needed a good giggle on a Monday morning. Cheers Al.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this. I have been a huge Magnum fan since the late 80's when I was an exchange student in Germany (I'm from the USA). I was also introduced to Marillion at that time which you mentioned in the video (I will definitely go check out your reaction for them - they are my all-time favorite band). As for Magnum, my 2 favorite songs of theirs are "Les Morts Dansant" and "How Far Jerusalem", both from their "On a Storytellers Night" record (their 4th and breakout record). I highly suggest you give those a listen. Actually, the entire album is excellent. In addition to great rock songs throughout their catalog, they have some of the best, beautiful ballads. One of my favs is "When the World Comes Down on You" from their "Vigilante" album. I hope you explore some more of their music. Great band.

RIP Tony Clarkin, the mastermind behind Magnum since 1972 until 2024 together wit singer Bob Catley. This is one of the many great songs the released over the years. It's so sad that there ain't gonna be more Magnum albums. But we will allway rember the music, forever and ever

Guys a great reaction I would recommend Les Morts Dansant from Magnums iconic album On A Storytellers Night. What a track that is. Tony Clarkin is one of England's most gifted and underated song writers and only Bob Catley can deliver his songs with the emotion they deserve. Thanks for reacting to Don't wake the lion and keep up the great work 👍

My favourite band they should have been megastars but they didnt get the airplay or promotion they deserved by the record company or media to make it to the big time despite all the talent that they have.

Good to hear this again. Magnum were really a second tier band that had enough good material to briefly flirt with major success as rock music became more mainstream commercial in the 1980's. With a little more youth and rock star charisma on their side maybe they might have held on to that status, but it wasn't to be. Still, it earned them a hometown headline slot at what was then the UK's biggest arena, so that was vindication for their efforts. Just Like and Arrow is a lost pop/rock classic that should have been a huge hit. Tony Clarkin was a thoughtful writer, and How Far Jerusalem, Wild Swan and Kingdom of Madness are all worth a listen.

My favourite band by some distance. Whilst there have been changes to the drummer, bassist and keyboard player over the years it has always been Bob singing and Tony playing the guitar and writing all the songs. There are maybe 6 or 7 out of over 200 that Tony co-wrote with another person but other than that he has written all the songs himself, including this one. Wings Of Heaven was their biggest success in the UK charts, and also gave them their highest placed single in the UK singles charts with "Start Talking Love". They are a band who are able to write everything from epic songs with serious subject matter, to heartfelt ballads and throwaway pop/rock songs. I think the reason they were never a bigger success is down to the fact that they were never seen as sex symbols in the way that members of Bon Jovi or Whitesnake were and that whilst they did do songs that would be seen as radio friendly, they were never a band who cared too much about hit singles, more caring about the album and touring. Interesting tidbit for you, in an era where rock singers were known to swear like troopers on stage, Bob Catley has never sworn on stage which means for all their serious lyrics and epic, almost prog, sound at times they are also a band that the whole family could watch live.

Bob Catley (vocals) and Tony Clarkin(guitar and songs, all the songs!), the mainstays of the band from the beginning through today, were both in their 40s when this album became a bit of an unexpected commercial peak for the band, so there was very much a knowingness about the 'too old to die young' aspect, so don't worry Shawn, you're not alone on that score! I've got a friend who actually worked for Polydor records at the time, and him being just out of school thought they were absolutely ancient - he also managed to make a rude comment about Bob's height (or lack thereof) at a press event to none other than...erm, Bob's Mum...whoops! Of course they're both in their 70s now and still going strong - seen them many times in my ten years in the UK and shoulda seen them again in April, but that was rescheduled to December, and is now re-rescheduled for next September, so fingers crossed for 3rd time lucky!

From their Wings of Heaven album which was the closest Magnum ever got to breaking America. Sadly it was never meant to be as MTV at the time was only interested in Bon Jovi lookalikes. Magnum's musical talent had never been in question but If Magnum had been blessed with great looks chances are they'd now be as big as Bon Jovi or G n R.

I agree it’s a great song, Magnum at their very, very best! Sadly the writer Tony Clarkin doesn’t rate this album. He said in 2019. “Not a good album, not my favourite album at all, ” He actually called it crap!

He certainly alienated a lot of diehard older fans like myself when he dismissed quite a large chunk of his back catalogue. These are the songs that made them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWaae6utaLqXd80
